I feel him, even though I think Banjo was a far superior platformer, there really was nothing like playing Mario 64 when it was new. Even to this day the game amazes me with how specific they were with the moves like being able to adjust walking speed, the side and backflips, wall kicks, and other small details like the waterfall outside the castle getting louder as you approach it.

Had a chance to play Mario 64 as a kid growing up and it’s incredible. Felt like you needed to collect 8 thousand stars though but going 3D was the right thing to do.
