There were a LOT of people that listed one game, or two games, or just listed them without numbering them. There were people that listed XBLA and VC games. There was a guy that listed WoW. There were people that listed Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Mario Kart DS. There were a LOT of people that simply did not read the rules. So, sorry to all the Europeans that paid attention, but there were some American duders that didn't know what they were doing.

The only thing that would've changed would've been that PWAA and SotC would've been behind Okami and ahead of Bully in the Adventure GotY section, and PWAA would've been Adventure GotY for the handhelds instead of DQH.

I've always disliked the debate over semantics of what is a "game" when it comes to GOTYs, so I'm pleased that at least GAF folks value all new 'game experiences and content' the same. The borders are blurring so much; "full" games from EA, massive expansions from Blizzard, mmo patches rivaling some expansions, episodic and other downloadable content. I rather just see them all as new game experiences and waste no more time on the matter - time better spent on debating their actual quality.

So I'm pleased to see Half Life 2's Episode 1's nomiations and selection for FPS of the year.

One more note - the only game from my top 8 list (I didn't play 10 games worthy of being included on a best of 2006 list) that didn't make the cut was Bully. Nice to see GAF does have taste.

Why do MGSO and YIDS have the same amount of points and the same rank in the overall ranking but not in the Handheld Game of the Year section (Why is YIDS number 8 and not number 7, too?).
