Millions of people around the globe watch 'commercials' willingly for more than a decade. Why this is such a shock to you is anyone's guess.

E3 has always been the time and opportunity for companies to reveal what they have in store for the future, and simply not showing up sends a bad message. Yeah, there's other times and places where Sony can announce stuff, but that's true for the other companies too, and they attend E3 too.

New flash. Out of those 80 plus million gamers that own a Ps4 only a very small percentage even know about E3, let alone watch it. Some are assuming its Sony being arrogant or others who think Sony has nothing to show (meanwhile you have had other console companies show same games for 3 years consecutively before release with a trickle of indies and mostly 3rd party games and Sony in there worst year has more than tht to show). Sony obviously is doing it for a reason, whether it's to downplay E3 importance and focus on thei own event or revving up for a console reveal at their event as rumored. This sends no bad message when you are the company on top of the game in terms of quality exclusive game releases yearly. Furthermore how can you send a bad message that affects you when most of your consumers know shit about E3?

Sony are the only ones that bring out the fantastic games and unique experiences rather than just following the current money train. That’s why I stay with them, they are willing to gamble on things others would never dare do.

LMAO @ unique experiences after Sony pumped 2 more Uncharted games, one more LBP, 2 more inFamous games, one more Souls game, one David Cage game and about 20 remasters just this generation, with everything new almost always being "cinematic experiences" with those "slow walking while talking" parts, and an upcoming zombie game.

Anyway, pre-PS4 Sony was the best Sony. Wasn't quite free of "cinematic experiences", but it was still all about gameplay, especially with PSN games. So many new quirky titles like Trash Panic, Fat Princess, Tokyo Jungle, Super Stardust HD, Echochrome, The Last Guy, alongside with plenty of new IPs like Folklore, M.A.G., Heavenly Sword, MotorStorm, Little Big Planet (guess we have Dreams now), Starhawk...

Damn, I miss old Sony that took risks and wasn't confortable just pumping sequels and remasters.

I dont think i can get behind the idea of not buying a console because of there censorship issues. They are doing what most companies will do to protect there brand.

however i have gotten to the point where the majority of new AAA games dont intrest me, they all seem the same, safe games which look prettier then the last and thats it. If that was your reason to not buy sony i would totally agree.

What i really want is new interesting experiences, new mechanics so on not just photo realistic graphics.

Thats why the next gen i will not spend a penny on new consoles until 2-3 years into the gen, to see what experiences they are offering.

Yeah those countless third person action games are super unique gambles.....

When was the last time Sony did anything risky or pioneered something brand new? The only game I can think of is Dreams which will likely sink Media Molecule.

I get you, i just dont care about TLOU, God Of War(as it seems its no longer a hack'n slash) and Horizon Zero Dawn.
The only first party studios i am interested in from Sony is Project Siren and Japan Studios
Japan studios seems relegated to making VR trash, i dont care about VR at all. And i have no idea what the hell Siren are doing after Gravity Rush 2.
So for me it seems that Sony is neglecting smaller Japanese games, which sucks for me.

Most games i play that are third party and from Capcom, Square, Atlus/Sega and Namco. And almost all of those games are multiplat now so whats the point.

Still i have pre ordered the Onimusha remaster, Ace Combat and Devil May Cry.
But the PS5 better have a few japanese developed exclusives or i dont have any incentive to buy it at all, might as well go full PC

Need to dig deeper. Notwithstanding that the respective figures are taken from 8 months apart (PS3 Nov 13 and Xbox June 14) and are therefore not directly comparable, there is also more to the story.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_game_consoles

Shows Xbox 360 as 84 million and PS3 as >83.8 million. The latter is because Sony stopped splitting out individual platform sales in 2012 and therefore total PS3 sales are not known with certainty. They are probably bigger than the 84 million though, which considering it was on sale for a year less than the 360 is noteworthy.

You mean, the Sony that let a FPS developer (Guerrilla) make a new RPG IP? The Sony that kept supporting niche games like The Last Guardian that most studios would cancel? The Sony that betted on VR even if its future was unknow and just released one of the best game experiences for VR with AstroBot? The same Sony that pretty much reivented God of War and let her 1st party studios create new IPs like the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima? The Sony that supports and partner with brand new studios to create exclusive new IPs that look like nothing else on the market like Death Stranding?

Yeah, they defenetly playing safe and not taking any risks at all. /s

I for one very, VERY glad they didn't cancel that game. I absolutely adored that game.

Personally like to see Sony advertise their unique games like Gravity Rush and Puppeteer instead of sending them to die.

Its very easy to counter fanboyism with plain facts.

I don't think it's a big problem, OP.
The games that were censored were kinda "obscure".

I assume most of that crowd is on era now but I kinda agree with OP, they shouldn't be censored, just told to fuck off when they want it on the PS store and every other closed platform really. The creeps will follow to play it on pc if they have to.

It's even easier to cherry pick facts to back up a point. Sony doesn't take more or less "risks" than Microsoft and Nintendo and it's egregious to suggest either way. Frankly I'm not sure what I expected in this thread and somehow I'm still disappointed.

And well deserved. Sony managed to turn the PS3 into a great console after the very rough start. Microsoft dropped the 360 support earlier too, so at one point only third party games were coming for it.

Sony closed down Evolution Studios after the mess that was Driveclub, even after they made the cool Motorstorm games. Sony also dropped support for 3D and Simulview games, dropped Vita support asap, started to require payment to play online (after a whole generation stating how it was an advantage if you got a PS3 because of free online) even if the PS+ service already existed before. Horizon and GoW2018 were a necessity since Killzone never really got popular and GoW Ascension was very lukewarm. It was that or stopping GoW games. They don't take risks all the time (logically) but they are much more confortable in this generation.

I, too, am glad that The Last Guardian wasn't cancelled since Ueda games are very unique and atmospheric, but damn if I wasn't sad for people that got the PS3 waiting for the game after trailers in both 2009 and 2011. Won't comment on Death Stranding since I didn't see any gameplay yet (although I do remember seeing characters running around or something?). Can be very good. Can be shit. Who knows.

Its very easy to counter fanboyism with plain facts.

LMAO the fanboy with PlayStation

Aww shit look at all these people using words wrong!

It's not that uncommon to refer to companies, be it their corporate culture or their leaders, as arrogant. But you can pretend otherwise if you want, and cringe at your own strawman.

It doesn't have to be an AAA game. They could have a normal E3 dominated by third party games with one or two smaller games of their own, supported by new footage of games we already know about.
I'm sorry if I hurt your heart little guy.

they're censoring anime girls because the pixelated vaginas and bewbies are scary to our western sensibilities. So let's have more Witcher nudity and Cyberpunk titties which are realistic and big enough to slap my head into hedonistic pleasure.
I was not even aware there were games on the PS4 that featured pixelated anime vaginas. Guess I stop learning. But I prefer good old fashioned porn to quench my thirst for vaginas, so I'm still cool with sony.

Are they really tho? The samey experience nearly all of their exclusives have doesn't boad well for out of the box ideas.

That would assume that all their exclusives have a samey experience which many many people would disagree with and for what is worth I certainly do not.

Gravity Rush 2, Uncharted 4, Spider-man, GT, Horizon: Zero Dawn, The Last Guardian, Resogun, Shadow of the Colossus (remake), etc... do not say “samey” to me... :/.

It's expensive to have all the consoles from all the hardware makers - more expensive than ever, now that mid generation console refresh is also a hardware upgrade rather than just slim down. I had to choose between Microsoft and Sony, and I went with Microsoft cause X1X was much better than PS4Pro. I'll always stick with the best hardware, so I don't rule out a return to Sony at some point. But I also must say I really like Phil more than I like any of the Sony execs, and that has an impact too. Albeit a smaller one ;)

Yeah, I was thinking exactly the same thing. On PS4, there are many games with great content, and that's awesome. But more often than not, I feel like I'm playing Uncharted with other themes.

The games are different, but the controls and basic gameplay I could do with more variation. Especially considering I'm not a big fan of Uncharted controls. Never have been, and never will. I'm happy for those of you that really love that style, there must be a lot of you, but I don't share it personally..

I might also be done with Sony going into next generation. I'm wait and see with them, but if I witness all my PS4 purchases being stuck on last gen's machine again then that's probably a deal breaker for me.

I've enjoyed PS4 immensely, but I don't necessarily find all of their games to be that good. Playstation exclusives are a compelling offering, but there's another console maker based in Japan that I've been really irritated with whose games are simply better than Sony's, and if they're not exempt from my ire than neither is Sony.

I hope Microsoft achieves a gaming golden age going into the next generation. I would really like to see them firing on all cylinders with the great online network they have and the BC support. It's time for console gaming to catch up with PC where your games library persists from one generation to the next without any of this re-purchase BS.

Agreed, I also think digital libraries should follow you and this fair and strong shared expectation is why I think PS5 will be backwards compatible with your PS4 library :).

I swear posts like this always seem to come when the next gen train starts to get some kind of momentum going and it seems like it’s almost intentional and against Sony!

People pick the smallest crap to nitpick about to degrade a console and give that subtle push of “their being arrogant again” into it to cap it off as if their trying to give Xbox an edge next gen because it was disappointing to them this gen!

You don’t see threads like this when movies do the same shit over time and remove scenes and shit.

Just seems like a real lame excuse and you should just say you rocking an Xbox next gen!

None of this makes sense

I am done with Sony as well. I will play the games I have on them, then selling my PS4 and investing on a PC/Switch.

Where censorship is not rampant.

Sony can keep her soyboys and kissing 14 year old girls.

Sure they dont 😁Whatever makes you feel comfortable. Go check out Dreams next. I'll stop playing my VR games on console when you give me the 411 on it.

But that person kissing her was another 14 year old.....
Now imagine that game had "anime" artstyle. now lot of people go uproar about it and it would be either be censored or completely take out that scene. The point is there is a good chance games like Catherine Full Body might get censored even tho there is no sex meanwhile western games can have straight up full on sex but it wont get censored just because it has realistic graphics.

To be fair, I don't think that's why the other games were censored. It wasn't a teenage girl kissing someone else.

I dont see what the problem is, I'm still getting Kingdom hearts 3 and RE2 remake soon. Maybe all you want is hentai porn games.

Honestly I think it was the lost of third party Japanese exclusives that has really dampened my only Sony console since I'm not really that into the exclusives that Sony typically makes. I feel like they are really focusing on the western side of the world a bit too much and has pretty much lost sight of what has made a lot of folks fanboys of their consoles. Saying I'm done would be false, but I am no longer hyped.

Is games like Catherine considered "hentai porn game"? Trust me when the game first came out in 2011 thats what most people called it. I was considered "pervert" for liking the game.

So ni no kuni 2, Nier, Dragon quest 11, are focused on western gamers? Thats news to me. And lets forget that anime fighters are on ps4 as well. Seems to me like you want more western games then Japanese games

All of those in PC and/or Switch as well, unless you mean Sony funded them.
