GAF Movies of the Year 2007 Voting Thread

Status
Not open for further replies.
Alright people, I'm bored as shit and I already have a decent template to pull from for this thread. This is going to be like Anihawk's thread on the other, lesser forum. I guess I'll let voting go until next Sunday night at midnight EST. A week to vote, and another weekend for There Will Be Blood to be released in more theaters.

Listing:
-List a minimum of three, maximum of ten of the best movies THAT WERE RELEASED IN 2007 (in whichever country it came out first) from favorite to least favorite
-10 points goes to the #1 choice, 9 points goes to #2, and so on and so forth
-If you list from least favorite to favorite, I will count that too, just make sure you number from 10 to 1
-If you decide not to number them, I will simply take the first ten or however many listed as your top ten from favorite to least favorite.
-You can space out your list if you think one movie is much more deserving than others. There still must be a minimum of three to count.

Grindhouse counts as one movie. A vote for Deathproof or Planet Terror counts as a vote for Grindhouse. If enough of you guys disagree with me, I guess I'll switch it up.
And yeah, no editing people!

I'll post my own list in a little while, so I can just post the overall standings in here.

To be honest, despite my more elitist leanings, my top 10's gotta work out like

12. Ratatouille
11. 300
10. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
9. Paris, Je T'aime
8. Shoot'em up
7. Juno
6. the darjeeling Limited
5. Grindhouse
4. I'm Not There
3. There Will Be blood
2. NCfOM
1. Hot Fuzz

Hot Fuzz is purely perfect filmmaking. For everytime second the Coens use feet as some sort of otherworldly analogy, Edgar Wright is using it to reference 13 movies at the same time. I'm not gonna beat around the bush: Hot Fuzz is like a wet dream for me.

Still need to see: assasination of jesse james, Gone baby Gone, Michael Clayton, once, Persepolis, Zodiac, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, Atonement, 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, Sweeney Todd

1. NCFOM
2. atonement
3. once
4. Ratatouille
5. there will be blood
6. into the wild
7. knocked up
8. 3:10 to yuma
9. charlie wilsons war
10. the assassination of jesse james

for me at least :/

Hahah this is why I decided to let this go for a week after initially typing 3 days. I saw your post on EB. Hopefully, you can see it this weekend.

And Children of Men got its wide release in 2007, but it's a 2006 film, since that's when it got its limited release.

This was such a great year for films. I saw dozens of films and there's still half a dozen more I've yet to see. I fucking loved 2007.

There *IS* a poster for TWBB up at the theater, but who knows when it's coming? If it doesn't come this coming weekend I guess I'll sadly make out a list without it on there, as I'm sure it would be.

Maybe I should have held off longer, but the wheels have already been set into motion. I figured a month into 2008 would be good enough. Sorry, duder.

And Iamthegamer, you know I'm not counting those last two, right?

And oh crap, I guess I should lay down the rule for Grindhouse. I'm going to count it as one movie. It really isn't...but I think that makes it easier. So Amir0x's vote for Deathproof counts as a vote for Grindhouse.

Yah, it's cool n' all. As someone once said, "Life goes on, long after the thrill of living is gone." I think it was noted thinker Friedrick Nietzsche. Or possibly equally noted redneck John Mellencamp. But probably Nietzsche.

Yea, i just felt like throwing'em up since they barely missed out. I'd whip up a mega list, because msot of the films I saw were good, but I think I'll save that for my return to blogging.

CoM came out in 2006.
And if you're going to troll No Country, don't put We Own the Night on your list.

Im just going with 3, as it forces some discrimination:

The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford (Dominick)
Zodiac (Fincher)
Death Proof (Tarantino)

Caveat: I havent gotten a chance to see my most anticipated film of 2007 yet, There Will Be Blood, as its not playing anywheres near me. Everything else I wanted to see, I have.

1. Ratatouille
2. Tekkon Kinkreet (limited release USA in July 2007)
3. Stardust
4. Eastern Promises
5. Death Sentence
6. Atonement
7. The Bourne Ultimatum (at this point I had a hard time thinking of things to list)
8. The Kingdom
9. No Country For Old Men (didn't think it was that great, but I guess it was better than the majority of what I saw last year)
10. Mr. Brooks

Haven't seen: Sweeney Todd, Jesse James, Will Be Blood, Persepolis, The Kite Runner (uggh), The Orphanage, The Diving Bell And Butterfly, Darjeeling, Juno, Across the Universe or Michael Clayton

I....I haven't seen There Will Be Blood yet so...here the fuck goes.

1. Ratatouille
2. No Country For Old Men
3. Michael Clayton
4. Hot Fuzz
5. Superbad
6. Bourne Ultimatum
7. Shoot 'Em Up
8. The Darjeeling Limited

Can we each get one choice to subtract five points overall from? Call it the Uli Kunkle Award? I mean, we've all seen a shit movie this year that we hate and think should have no place in the final top ten, right?

My vote for this year's recipient of the Uli Kunkle Award is...
Juno.

6. The assassination of Jesse James by the coward etc etc

Don't remember anything else that makes me want to include it in a list. I would just like to say that Casey Affleck gives the best performance in secondary actor category.

The range that he shows in Jesse James kills what the dude from NCOM does. Casey affleck is one heck of an actor and he deserves the goddamn oscar.
