I don't get what happened to Ubisoft in general. I remember their days pumping out stuff like Prince of Persia, Splinter Cell, Beyond Good and Evil, and Rayman, and it seemed like they were really talented, and often with a European flavor that made their games stand out.
That was the whole reason people were excited for Assassin's Creed in the first place, the concept plus how good Ubisoft was.
Of course, that came out, was an overhyped bore with a lot of flash that took off with casual gamers, and it seems like that has influenced the company more and more, every year since then.
It's been a slow decline, but lately, they just seem like another EA or Activision.
What sucks is that it seems like the talent is still there. Just a bit of Nintendo management and oversight brought us one of the most delightful surprises of the generation in Mario + Rabbids. If they were to stop designing by comittee, and pumping out boring open world after boring open world just for marketing, and actually get some spark and creative joy back in their products, who knows what they'd be capable of?
