Game characters who gain a level in sexy

It's probably been mentioned but a lot of Fire Emblem: Awakening characters are examples of this.

Anya, Cortana and Jill in OP are fucking travesties.

Anya especially just made me SMH that they went that route.

If youre gonna post anything about Final Fantasy characters, the rule should be don't compare them to any art that originated in the West/Nintendo Power coz it's just glorified fan art.
That might be the stuff you remember from childhood, but it doesn't make any more official.

Posting the Nintendo Power stuff was done as a joke, chillax.

Am I missing something here? Neither of them are sexed up and neither look unattractive.

First one has her hand pointing to her mouth, as if to say "I'll never tell. Do what you wish." Second is clearly making a phallic reference by sticking her sword erectly between her legs.

I'd say the first art style is much more aesthetically pleasing than the generic anime stylings of the second one. They definitely took a step back. It went from classy to blechh!

Wait, Little King Story is out?

...

NO NORTH AMERICA RELEASE?

Edit: Woops it is out. Damn wiki showed no NA release, but the AU date is NA as well.

Joanna Dark wins some sort of award for character that's never been on-model for the original in-game version in any promotional art or other versions/games in the universe.

Like, the original in-game model is great, sensible, just straightforward woman. The box art is off model. The CGI renders were off-model. PDZ Joanna doesn't resemble the original except her clothes are kind of the same color scheme. PDXBLA's Joanna is a different person, and even the dashboard CGI version of that variant isn't on model to the remade version.

I know right :) Rosa's spiked pauldrons are sweet as hell. I also love how Amano's uneven contours really show in Cecil's breast plate.

Here's another, modern rendition of sexiness from Dissidia:

Who would have ever thought that Amano's crazy ass art would ever be directly translatable to a game someday.

They always had to have someone completely redo all of his stuff for the actual game.

Justin Bailey anyone?

What is this drawing on the left?

Is that the original drawing they used to make the sprite from or someone's rendition of what that sprite would look like in HD?

There's only one that comes to mind for me and it's from a game that's not even out yet. It still counts as they changed the character design and increased the actual quality as well.

To what we know of now...

Holy damn I had never realized that. He looks like a cartoon in the first one!

I hate both of those designs so much. The one Joanna Dark design I actually like is the one from when PDZero was still a Gamecube game (and everyone else hates it because it reminds them of the cartoon girl from eSurance).

I loved that design. I was so hoping the new game would look like that.

That's exactly why they had Nomura take over the art during the PS era. His stuff (humans, anyway) was blocky, simplistic, and comic-bookish, which means it survives being turned into a model better than Amano's stuff (FFIV and V PS1 intro FMVs...yeesh.) When the PS2 era came about and programmers had more power to make better models, that's when Nomura let loose. Hence, belt skirts, asymmetrical robes, parrot Bahamut.

While I disagree with the "ew" of the first, what the hell is up with high heels these days? I'm looking at Samus's Zero Suit and other characters who gained sexy levels through the years.

Wrong example.

That's supposed to be a better example ? looks just like she grew up between the two pictures.

For Shaundi, of all characters, there is actually an explanation to why the change happened with how the Saints Evolved between 2 and 3.

As far as Kerrigan goes, her Queen of blades appearance is way worse than the new Kerrigan look with the zergy-heels and all.
Her new human look evolved too but it just seems that they made her look a little bit more like her new voice actress.

Cop Jill is way sexier to me, sorry.

Wise words and very true.

Not female, but Chris is one of the best examples to me, and roid arms aside the boost they gave him in sex appeal (which I wouldn't mind happening more with male characters) can be noticed at how rapidly he raised in popularity between gay fans.

I actually find the new chris to be revolting compared to the old one. He doesn't even look sapien, looks like a big lumbering neanderthal IMO.
I'm all for sexing-up things in video games though, beauty is one of few treats this world still has to offer me.

Whats funny about Mk9 is damn near every female cast member is half nude, while most of the men are fully dressed and covered.

Not that anyone should look to MORTAL KOMBAT as a source for political correctness and sexual equality, as it's literally a game about killing people, but the guys who are not fully dressed like to show off a lot:

This is a winner and I agree. Honestly, she doesn't look drastically different, but I think it's an improvement. First model is still nice looking though. People say she looks like a porn star? Whatever. Some make-up does not make you look like a porn star.

The legitimate winner is all of the females from DEAD OR ALIVE 5!!!!!!! Drastic improvements all around imo and makes me never want them to ever go back to the doll-anime look from previous DOA's.

Also, Cortana from Halo 4.

Never understood the logic of that outfit. High heels, tight pants, and a combat vest with a giant space right above the vitals open to attack. No undershirt whatsoever.

Perfect thing for a spec ops operative to wear.

Not that I care, but I always said the women in Mortal Kombat make the ones from all other games look like nuns, Ivy from SC4 included.

I want to clarify that I personally don't find either his new or older looks particularly endearing, but I still consider him one of the best examples regarding devs trying to make a male character have more sex appeal because imo it was obviously pandering and it paid-off for the character's popularity regardless of how each of us sees the result. Ideally we wouldn't have this kind of thing happen at the level we see in the industry, but them's the breaks.
