Right, I'll go slowly with this as you and some others are obviously hard of thinking. Would you have been able to get GPU for one dollar if you hadn't already paid for XBL? No, therefore the money you spent on XBL is factored in to what you needed to pay OVERALL to get that GPU deal....how do people find this so hard to understand.
Thank goodness you typed that slowly so that I had time to truly bask in how awful your argument is. Should I type this slowly for you too?

I already had XBL. It was an expense/service that I already planned for since I'm a console gamer and console gaming companies are assholes who make me have a subscription to play online. Then after I maxed out my XBL/PSN time (which is 3 years on Xbox and 6 on Sony) thanks to amazing deals at CDkeys on both, MS came along and offered me GPU for a dollar for 3 years since I already was a member of XBL. How lovely of them to give me GPU on top of something I already bought FOR JUST A DOLLAR.

And then they came along and said with Microsoft Rewards, I could continue to add a month of GPU to my account for free each and every month. Now this is the part where you tell me the GPU I'm earning in Microsoft Rewards isn't actually free because I had to pay for the Internet service required to access Rewards. Hurrrr

Answer this, would you have got the GPU offer if you hadn't already paid for XBL? Its a simple question.

I would never have received the offer if I never paid for Internet service. I never would have needed Internet service if I didn't buy a computer....oh my god we're down the rabbit hole now!

So you genuinely don't think the money you paid for XBK that enabled you to then pay to get GPU is a factor? If so then you're an idiot.

Yeah I get your horrible argument and it hasn't stopped being horrible yet. I paid for one service with no intention of getting the other, and then someone came along and said I could have the other service in addition to my service for just a dollar for three years. I paid a dollar for GPU for 3 years. I paid 90 dollars for 3 years of XBL I didn't buy one in order to get the other, because if that was possible, MS would let everyone do it, including people who already did the deal once before.

Both EA and Activision make billion $ in DLC and MTX. I have also seen if you wait, games price of will fall rather quick but the DLC for it is more expensive. Hopefully this does not mean in future the game will be bare-bones because companies have found ways to make more money.

I'm sorry to break it to you but you're the one getting screwed over here. MS is basically getting hundreds of dollars of free money from someone who isn't a part of their target group. And that not counting screwing you over for thousands for ten fucking years for a service that should be free. Infrastructure is there already, a Playstation-centric guy or two trying to exploit the service to stick it to MS and paying them lots of money for Gold to do it is not a net loss for MS, not even close. It's a win-win for them, and a net loss for you. And that's why your post is funny to some of us.
I always paid for gold, no changes for me. I am their target group. I don't do it to "stick it to MS", I use that service. I'm just taking advantage of their GP promo. 2 for 1. No loss at all for me and they get to add me in their stats as a subscriber again (I have GP already on another account, 1$ conversion, expiring soon).

I'm grateful if they continue to add good deals like Outriders. I'll play it there instead of Steam and other games too. Good!

In the end if you enjoy, got a good deal, maybe even a good deal after, who is losing?

If you see value, enjoy the service, then great.

If you do not, great for you as well.

There are plenty of folks who see value, and all the other stuff just doesnt amount to much, except people finding ways to justify .

I don't get this thinking. I'm going to pick up an Xbox SX as soon as something that's only available for the system that looks worth playing comes out. I HOPE it's available to buy and not a GP exclusive as that would cause me to not buy it. I just do not want a perpetual rental service for video games. I don't want it from MS. I don't want it from Sony. I don't want it from Nintendo. I want great games. So far two companies are delivering on that.

And yet the above has no bearing on what people play on the PS. There are going to be a ton of games exclusive to PS5 that people with that system will be enjoying just fine. And this is already happening! The system already seems to be dominating, so it's what most people want, just like last-gen. No amount of spin will ever change that. It's all about games, games games.

Also, buying studios is just not a good way of doing things. I will personally be shocked if this massively changed the direction. You can buy IP, but you're buying "the past" when you do that. You're not buying "talent" because they can leave, as we just saw happen with The Initiative. We've seen what 343 has done with the Halo IP. We saw what happened with Rare after MS took over. Let's see what these efforts deliver but you usually just can't buy your way to success. I'd love to see a slew of great original games come from MS. There is no reason to want to see bad games. I want to see new classics from this gen. But this constant, constant, non stop crap talking with zero results is old.

There seems to be a lot of content marketing being put into the system right now to distract from the sales and games situation. "GamePass' massive growth!" "Smart delivery is a big deal!" None of this stuff is even close to the stated importance, and these sites are trying to push this narrative. Makes one wonder how hard MS is pushing behind the scenes to get these stories out.

Games have never been, and in all likelihood never will be, exclusive to Game Pass so that seems like an overblown concern. And you say it's all about games, games games, but then you act like Microsoft's new studios won't have games, games, games, and for no reason will just drastically decrease in quality. And these new studios have just as much chance of losing tons of talent as a Naughty Dog or any other 1st party Sony Studio, what reason would there be a talent exodus for the new Xbox studios? It's far too early (and impossible to find either) to have any side "dominating".

And "content marketing" is happening because Xbox is having great features, not because they're paying companies to shill for them. If both sides have great games, features and services are a big reason to choose a console to buy.

Is Bethesda or Obsidian or Ninja Theory or Playground, etc. etc. etc. all of a sudden going to make way worse games simply because they're making Xbox games now? Even though they'll have way better resources and don't have to meet sales numbers to survive? Seems like they'd be just as good if not better going forward. If you vastly prefer Playstation exclusives then you have nothing to worry about, but there are plenty of people who may see exclusives like Elder Scrolls 6 or Hellblade 2 or Fable or any of the other countless games coming out, and prefer Xbox or have them be close enough that they can look at services and other factors to make their decision. Neither side has great exclusives on PS5/Series X yet

Lastly, you'll be "shocked" if going from 5 first party studios to 23 in less than 3 years will massive change anything? This isn't the "blind Xbox faith" people had in the late 360 early One generation, you'd have to be blind to not see how things will be massively different, even if Playstation still ends up "winning" this generation

So data is saying that people spend more if they are gp subs but people cant comprehend it and just keep listing anecdotal examples? That would seem dumb if we weren't on gaf. Stop telling us how some guy you know subscribed once for dollar after getting a free MS gift card for xbox live and he never spent a dollar. And start citing real data or evidence.

How about stop being on gaf and just go enjoy playing games . I simply do not understand this need to rip apart anything that is good for gamer, whether ps now, or game pass, or switch, or wtf else you into . If you enjoying it, then go and enjoy it. I just do not understand some of yalls purpose in these threads, other than you bored as f.

While I have been a sub to Xbox live since the first xbox and have 3 1/2 years of gamepass ultimate stocked up....I have never....ever bought a copy of a game after I played it on a streaming service (xbox, psnow, Origin, Ubi+). I also have never purchased dlc or micro transitions for a game on one of these services (this does NOT include PS+ which I don't consider part of this).

I would consider myself a massive video game collector and I spend well into 5 figures on video games each year. Maybe this growth/spending data is coming from non traditional users and I would love to see some demographic data on these sales.

I bought every Yakuza game released so far, despite them all releasing Day 1 on GamePass. I just want to "have" them forever, not to mention you get a discounted price. Supporting these types of games from Sega on Xbox is just the icing on the cake.
I did / do the same with the Yakuza series.
The games are worth every penny I paid

Outriders could be a perfect example of what's already been happening. You download and play the game as a $10 monthly rental instead of buying the game itelf for $60 and if they release paid expansions, it would be worth buying because you're saving money from not having to buy the base game.

Game pass is definitely a paradigm shift for gaming, maybe more so than streaming. Obviously in the end, they could both be linked together. The math and numbers eventually just work when your subscriptions reach a certain level. You can fund all your AAA game developments, pay your studios and employees well, make third party deals with change and growth left for profits. Microsoft is playing a long game, when they hit 30, 40, 50 million game pass subscribers. Unlike Google, even though its streaming, Microsoft may actually have the content and ability to create a steady flow.

Bethesda adds so much value to this long term plan too. They are one more big purchase away from speeding up their end game. Not sure who they could buy, Japanese, European or American studio. There aren't a lot of Bethesda's for the same price. i could easily see them dropping $15 billion or more on someone.

It's such good value proposition and people still want to own products and still purchase games. It's unreal. Part of me is more of a traditional cartridge guy. So this is some serious future shit to me. I think game pass is a much more desirable future over streaming for the next 10-15 years.

Microsoft is working hard to groom consumers to accept and love this, just like Micro transactions or the switch from cartridges to other media. Seems to be working, faster than expected.

Old thread but it's not that Gamepass is making hardcore gamers spend more than other gamers. It is that hardcore gamers who already spend a lot of money on games are the kind of people to see value in gamepass. Casuals don't want or need that many games to play.

Gamepass isn't just the best deal in gaming, it's one of the best deals in human history.

I would compare it to the invention of the internet or television. It's that groundbreaking, plus on top of that it's also the most consumer friendly service I've ever used.

In my eyes, Microsoft are the saviours of gaming and we have Saint Phil to thank for it.

Praise Him!

that is the most fatass lie ever if I see one. Casual buy games. They aren't hardcore who scream about it. I am casual as in not too much in gaming, but I buy games. Because i enjoy them.

Game pass is huge value for people like us. thnx to game pass, i can afford to buy Sony games. without game pass, I wouldn't have bothered with consoles at all. This notion that casual don't see value is game pass is bullshit.

people like free stuff. and casuals love game pass, on how much value it has.

if anything, its the hardcore who don't see value in game pass, since they buy day1 games. due to that, they have a lot of games, close to game pass numbers. to them, game pass isn't value as their catalogue.

As much great value is game pass just an internet outage is enough to make all those games useless. I had` 3 days internet outage, and i couldn't even play all of my game pass pc, or on the x1s. good thing i had couple of xlive games, and games that I bought installed.

I hope Microsoft fix this problem. otherwise, the service is good.

GamePass is amazing that's why.
It's such a value-added-service for Xbox users. The library that you have access to and it seems like all first party games will debut on GP as well, that's unbeatable value.

It's only going to snowball and get bigger.

I would say they probably account for 30% of all console owners.
nope they dont. its something hardcore make up. people buy 5 games a year at least. its just not new games that come up. with YouTube these days, i doubt 5 games is a minimum now.

there is used games, where i used to go to buy disc games. or 3rd party seller. most of my steam games are from there. they are very cheap.

Is your console set as a home console? It should give you a month of play once you select go offline in the settings or if you have an internet outage. I tested it myself and I could play GP offline just fine.

Yes, we get it, can't have a seperate Game Pass thread because it seems to hurt your feelings or something. 🙄
