Gamekult editor on graphical differences between the Zelda Switch/Wii U version

Well it's not like youre forced to do anything...

How can one spend endless amount of money on something, dislike and complain about it and continue to spend their hard earned money.. shouldnt it be spent on something that does not cause you to complain, feel forced or spiteful? This is a ridiculous thought process. Are you guys buying it just to have a reason to feel dissatisfied and upset? Does paying money justify the complaints?

Things would be easier if they were 3rd party but that's never gonna happen so just gotta deal with incompetence to play the software you want. Also buying the hardware does not mean you become a blind Nintendo fanboy either. You can be a Zelda fan and not like nintendos out of touch practices.

But I'm not about to believe Nintendo is going to treat Switch owners better than the people who stuck with the Wii U.

I don't think you understand at all. I'm buying a Switch -because- of Zelda BotW. There is literally no other compelling reason. I'm not buying the Switch because I think it's going to be worthwhile for the rest of the lineup. It already is because there is a new Zelda. I only buy Nintendo consoles for new Zeldas, and that's enough for me. All other games are gravy. I have a Wii with less than 10 games. I don't regret it one bit.

I think that for any person, they need to manage THEIR own expectations. Don't buy something expecting some future product. Buy something if you think it's worthwhile for the software available -now-. My threshold is "has a new Zelda game". Yours obviously isn't the same.

my mistake was that i trusted them. never again.

I learned that lesson back when Capcom promised the Capcom 5 on Gamecube. Lol. RIP Dead Phoenix! :(

What is tedious about it, without being too spoilery?

Belated reply, apologies! It's not particularly spoilery, nothing story related:
It was a quest where Link had to follow a korok from a semi-distance in a mini stealth quest. The korok was hard to see in the forest's mist, and went on for a looong time, especially for those types of quests. It also seemed easy to fail, as the player didn't seem to be too overzealous? Definitely not my favorite type of quest to do in any game, so I'm not looking forward to that!

Ubisoft downgrades a game on hardware they werent even sure of when they started developing and it has bugs, gets universally shunned to the point where they have to make public apologies , delay production of their next big game , give out the season pass expansion for free.

Nintendo are way too proud to do this, but lets imagine they capitulated just like they did with the 3DS launch.

"We are very sorry to have betrayed the trust of our loyal fans who bought a WiiU for this title, we would like to generously offer all Breath Of The Wild owners...

TWO FREE IN GAME SWITCH SHIRTS. *Dub step explosion* Peace out"

Yep, I think this is the best way to approach any new console release. I am a big Sony fan but waited a year to buy a PS4 until the library matched my expectations, not because of loyalty or something.

Can you really fault people for expecting at least one polished Zelda title to work on a Nintendo console per generation? its always been a pretty safe bet

I mean, there seems to be a fundamental misunderstanding on your part here. I'm saying you should expect the worst out of Nintendo when considering anything that hasn't been laid out. VC plans? None at launch. Online service? Expect shit. Streaming apps? Don't count on it anytime soon. Announced game with no release date? It'll be delayed, maybe even cancelled. Carrying over digital games you bought? Lol no! It's not hard to understand.

That doesn't mean that in spite of all this, if they do release something that is good, why wouldn't I play it? I'm not buying a Switch to "support Nintendo", I'm buying a Switch to play Zelda. I didn't buy a Wii to "support Nintendo", I bought it to play Skyward Sword. I already had a GC to play TP so I didn't buy the Wii at launch. I bought a GC to play Wind Waker. I don't have a WiiU because I'm not stupid enough to believe there is a Zelda on the WiiU until it's actually coming out. Lo and behold, WiiU owners who bought it for Zelda have now been slapped in the face! Is that right? No, but it's what I basically expected. Shrug.

That's why you should only buy Nintendo consoles expecting Smash-Kart.
/s but really Smash bros is so good

You're saying they're an embarrassment and they make terrible decisions and you expect the worst from them but you'll drop half a grand on their unreleased products, which suggests otherwise.

I agree with Duckroll and I have a switch preordered too. It just happens that the games (on the rare occasions they actually release) are more than enough to overcome the other issues I have with Nintendo.

Considering the quality of many of their games, and how widely confused people constantly are at the Elephant's movements, I don't even see how anyone could be confused by the idea.

Wind Waker HD is plenty polished... LOL.

Expecting Nintendo to quickly release their first HD Zelda after taking 5 years to finish Skyward Sword was not the best bet.

By the end of the week the Wii U will have had three new Zelda games, depending on your criteria, but you said it best: different people, different thresholds.

I certainly can't. It's funny, basically every console Zelda game is on Wii U (plus some handheld ports for good measure) but Nintendo wouldn't even give it an exclusive game.

Buying a console for an announced game without a release date or anything is not the smartest thing to do. I feel bad for those who did and didn't play anything else on their Wii U (especially as it had some really amazing games), hopefully this mistake teaches something or other about economical responsibility.

I'm a Wii U owner and I will play Zelda on the Switch. I'm happy that they released it on the U as promised, but in the end targeted the highest end platform. It would be a wasted opportunity if the Switch version didn't run better. Though it doesn't seem to be running too great on either platform really...

It's business because Nintendo has abandoned the WiiU as a platform moving forward, and it would not be in their best interest to highlight anything in their next flagship title that might make people think that the dead system they are sunsetting has any advantages which the new system does not. Nintendo is a company that loves to manage perceptions, and their targeted message now is "Buy a Switch, Goodbye WiiU."

Should've just completely ignored the Wii u version then.

Hmm, I'm basically the same. They could've had a "stronger" lineup, but only a new Zelda game was going to make it a Day 1 purchase for me. I don't want to say I don't have any other compelling reasons to get a Switch though, because I am interested in some of their other shit.

It wont make you a blind Nintendo fanboy but it should atleast remind you of the 20 other times you had a very unfavorable situation and did not like the outcome due to poor decision making skills.

From the stream linked earlier, "framerate death" is hugely over-exaggerating it. Framerate drops seem to be inline with what the Edge review mentioned; during big effect stuff. Seemed like it was fine outside of that.
Well, that's encouraging to hear.

This was supposed to be my next purchase :(. I'll wait for CEMU to get better and play it there.

So you play the games on CEMU without purchasing them? Gotcha. With that attitude, you're just giving Nintendo one more vote to never include a web browser on their console ever again.

But Edge said the framerate drops in Wii U doesn't significantly affect gameplay.

Good to hear more previews though. Hope others report their findings and videos too.

Didn't they say it drops to the teens though? Some people won't be as effected by it but that's pretty bad.

Fuck.

Does this perform worse than xbx??

Why?

I'm guessing physics is a lot more taxing than even 4 mechs vs giant enemies.

Why are people surprised, it already runs with some drops on Switch, a console way more powerful. Of course it was going to run badly on Wii U.

Lol what? There was a nearly two-hour stream just last night which showed the Wii-U version to be a fine version of the game in every way.
Framerate drops were just as frequent as compared to the Switch versions, but nothing that severely impacts the game at all.

Wii-U owners have nothing to worry about.

I meant I'll purchase it when CEMU gets better. How is that not clear?

Wow this is very very disappointing to hear. It was designed first and foremost as a WiiU game so parity in performance was at least expected. Looks like Nintendo has learned the final lesson from their competitors - last gen doesn't fucking matter! If you're a loyal fan who won't shell out day one money for the next console, fuck you!

Yeah this really does surprise me as Nintendo first party games have generally always been about quality. If it's the case then they've let this slide for this title and I can only assume it's because once the Switch arrived it became the out of favour ginger haired child pushed to the corner and made to eat crayons instead.

I've only got the WiiU and really have no plans on a Switch so my choice is limited anyway. From what I've seen of the footage it's not that bad.

Man this game looks so good its ridiculous. Whatever technical issues the WiiU version has, I'm not seeing anything from this stream that would hamper my enjoyment of the game.

But then they can't pull this trick again if they need to and fet away with it.

I would've actually had a good reason to buy a switch now. Instead, I'm waiting until the holidays for Mario odyssey to buy and just getting Zelda on my Wii u.

They probably would've put more effort in the switch version.

So you play the games on CEMU without purchasing them? Gotcha. With that attitude, you're just giving Nintendo one more vote to never include a web browser on their console ever again.
Lol. That's a silly excuse. Nintendo should be better at protecting their console.

I was pretty impressed as well, it looked a bit grimy at first but that's just the resolution and stream quality. Direct-feed screenshots are near indistinguishable from the Switch version.

Both versions should be fine. I might borrow my brother's Wii-U to play this one day, looks more interesting than most Zelda games.
(And that's saying a lot, because I think Zelda is the biggest snoozefest in gaming)
(Not a real spoiler)

They would have lost a lot of future sales if they'd done something so stupid as promising a new Zelda on Wii U for literally years and then cancelling it.

Bollocks.
You just have to look at Versus XIII's cancellation and FFXV being current gen only to see it can work.

This is kinda OK. I could and I really should just play it on the U but I won't. The Switch is my new toy. Yes a toy that will probably collect dust as there is only Zelda I care about for now. The rest haven't been announced or isn't coming and for me that's OK.

Come now, some people are still Salty about TLG not being on PS3, FF versus not happening, Type 0 not bring psp/V.

People keep on playing themselves.

I wish people would stop doing this. Dp will never stand for double post but if you are telling is about your sex activities there is a thread for it or perhaps it was just a Freudian slip.

Here's some Wii U footage.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJsn2MdHOr8&ab_channel=EpicLPer

It looks fine to me, but its framerate is definitely lower than on the Switch. Seems playable, though.

Edit: beaten.
What O_O they removed all the lighting effects of the previous videos from the Wii U version...

It now looks exactly like the switch version in the pictures comparing Wii U and Switch versions ... Like they didn't whant the Wii U version to look and feel superior to the switch version ...

Downgrade confirmed !

It looks amazing on hardware that is between a PS3 and a PS4.

Its not an excuse either, I genuinely think it looks brilliant.

With a side by side comparison I think the Switch version has nicer colours, where as the Wii U version looks a bit washed out. However I don't think I'll know once I get into the game.

There was no way they would have left those effects in if the Switch didn't have them. Com'on now.

But yeah, I'm salty they aren't in the Switch version at least.

Btw having played the switch version at the recent london event...the reports of the wiiu version sounds much the same as what I played, that's why I was saying it was "like OoT, maybe a tad better". Especially when docked, but it wasn't perfect undocked either - more like 25fps instead of 20.

Maybe there will be massive improvements in the final build...I'm not so sure, we'll have to wait and see.

Digital foundry for this will be interesting!

That yellow/brown filter on the wiiu version is bugging me though. Hard to get over, lol. I thought we moved past this shit.

Hopefully reshade + cemu to get it to locked 30fps and no piss filter will be a solution soon. I'll probably play it before then, not sure if I'll finish it though, might just get a taste and then wait.

It's not only a piss filter, but the whole lighting engine seems stepped down ... No light on the floor when the door is opened, only a simple ambient lighting in the cave, instead of multiple lightsources, no blue light illuminating link ...

Wow, this is really significant. Kind of looks dull now indoors :/

I wonder why they removed it. At E3 it doesn't seem like the Wii u struggled with the dynamic lighting.

I've come to terms never believing "gameplay" footage months before release. It was hard. Especially reading all the hype when the trailers hit at e3 with "in-game footage". But you're much better off raising and keeping your eyebrow fixed until release :p

But a piss filter??
