I mean it's an incredibly common trope especially within JRPG's. I think it's actually harder to name a JRPG that dousent have this exact premise.

From Skies of Arcadia to the venerated FF VII, the Ar Tonelico series, Wild Arms, most Tales of games etc etc.

Phantasy Star IV is interesting like this in which you play in the shadow of an older, advanced tech society that is actually the setting of the first two games (three, really...) after the collapse of the Algo star system.
