Whether it's dead or not, people who think this is going to be a true Ueda game need to really put themselves in his shoes for a minute. Imagine you've been working on a project for over 5 years and have nothing worthy of a public showing. You've left the company but you remain responsible for the project in a consulting capacity. What was once an ambitious passion project is now an anchor around your neck. I don't think I'd be able to do my best work under those circumstances.

I don't know how much other stuff he's been working on at the same time. Maybe he's satisfied with that other aspects of his life and it helps him maintain a positive attitude about the TLG. It's just hard for me to imagine his passion and vision remain clear after this long a struggle.

Sony needs to put up or shut up this E3. They need to stop mentioning that the game is in development all the time, and actually SHOW something. Maybe a short video showing the team working on the game, or a CGI teaser even. Just show us that the damn thing isn't dead, and that we can hope for a release soon.

Well, it's not like they go out of their way to tell us stuff. They're asked constantly, and sometimes they answer. Or something is completely misconstrued (like the trademark thing) and people freak out, so they let us know it's still in development.

The most likely reason they aren't showing us anything is that it was switched to PS4 development and showing us footage would let that cat out of the bag.

They're keeping it close to their chest. As they should.

There's nothing new in there.

I had the feeling it was gonna be some click bait bullshit with the "latest" being probably a quote from Kaz months ago saying it's still in production. Figured I'd read reactions before falling for that shit. Thanks for the warning.

2015?

It is probably not my type of game, but it looked interesting. Sad if it officially dies or is a stinker.

I think it's clear at this point that there were either management problems and/or the original vision didn't produce satisfying results.

I wouldn't mind being on the list as both Ico and SotC had janky, shitty ass gameplay with their only saving grace being the story, which was rather good in both games.

Oh, and yeah, the game is dead as a doornail. letitgo.gif

I hope we will get some kind of documentary in the future about the development process of this game. I'm sure that would be interesting.

Years from now, I bet we'll learn a lot more about its development no matter whether it comes out or not. It's just to unique of a from a journalistic standpoint not to cover.

My idea of jumping ahead to "TLG2" to set people's expectations after genuinely surprising them (omg a SEQUEL ANNOUNCEMENT), then coming back to "TLG" once expectations are lowered thanks to the reception of the sequel is still probably the best idea that's come out of this entire project.

what if the game comes out and it sucks?

My worry is that the game has had so many hands on it, it's no longer the original Team Ico/Ueda's game at all. Pretty much why I stopped caring years ago after the project was dark and Ueda had bee off it for a while. If it comes out and is good, than so much for the better. My current perspective is it's not going to be the game I want it to be, so to me it's dead.

If it was dead sony would have officially laid it to rest long ago.

They might not for IP reasons. Also saying "it's dead" is a negative Sony story that would haunt them forever. This perpetual "in development" state would definitely better PR wise.

Are you implying that Sony wouldn't admit that a game has been cancelled?

Maybe other games, but I think there's a certain cache that The Last Guardian had among press/enthusiast gamers that would follow them for a long ass time if they actually killed it. Doubly so now that it's been so long.

I'm not saying one way or the other if that's what's going on, but I can't say I'd be surprised if it was.

Stig's game was waaaaaay more expensive and more important than any Ico game and they just came out and said it was cancelled.

More expensive does not equal the same amount of bad PR from its death. Team ICO fans are a small group, but they're (we'r ) a very vocal one. See any Last Guardian thread on Gaf. They also encompass a chunk of the gaming press. If they cancelled the game, those vocal people would become a very loud voice that would follow Sony for some time.

woah, woah, woah, did I just read on the first page that the late Spanish dictator, Franco, is now helming TLG? If so, I hope we see something at E3.

A loud voice complaining about something most people don't care about isn't going to have a serious impact on the Sony brand.

I mean, I guess the press could hound them about it and make the story last a while, but again, it's unlikely to make people who didn't care suddenly start caring and having negative feelings about Sony.

If nothing is said by e3 besides "we are totally working on, believe us," then it's dead. It has been four years with one trailer, if there truly was something we'd have seen it by now.

Hmm, loved the summary. I haven't been up to date with thr latest news, but hey, as long as people keep mentioning the Last Guardian, its bound to be released at some point in time. If DQVII gets released out West someday, expect Last Guardian to be released too :).

ARRRGGHHHH!

THAT THREAD TITLE!!!!!!

Why did you have to call it that??? I thought this was an ACTUAL UPDATE on the game. I clicked it with anxious exuberance. Only to have my hopes crushed!

Fair enough but I just don't buy it; The Last Guardian being canceled wouldn't have as big of an impact as you might think on the sony brand and I can't think of any other case where sony wasn't willing to admit a game was canceled.

Great recap up until now. I have to believe this game is still in development and will be release in the next 2 years based on 1) the number of people within Sony confirming its existence, and 2) the fact that there is still such a rabid fanbase asking for this game.
