Are the employees not allowed to take home all that stuff? I still can't believe they throw away fully functional 360s and PSPs.
I'm not sure how that works. I know in some other dive videos I have seen people pull out dozens of game discs that would have otherwise been perfect, if the gamestop employees had not cut them in half to make them unusable. Doesn't make sense to me, but I assume there is some method to their madness. (like keeping people from trading in worthless games that they can't seem to sell anyway.)
I don't understand why they don't just have a bargain bin and throw everything inside for $1 each, but then I guess they'd still get people trying to trade the stuff back in for credit I guess.
no. they are notAre the employees not allowed to take home all that stuff? I still can't believe they throw away fully functional 360s and PSPs.
Awesome.
That said, I'm a bit nervous about that guy with the cigarette so close to a dumpster full of trash.
I can understand a store would throw away perishable goods that have expired but why would you throw perfectly functioning gaming goods away even if they aren't worth much anymore.
Just put that stuff on sale for a few bucks and people will flock to it.
Why would you jump into a dumpster so inadequately dressed? Who knows what you could get scratched or pricked by. At least wear gloves.
so what exactly do they think they are gonna find in a gamestop dumpster?
do gamesop shops in the USA usually throw games or anything valuable?
hell, here they sold you games even if the cover is broken or worse,missing...
and whatever valuable might remain,is taken home by the guys who work there...i had a friend that knew one of them and i got a Catherine OST cd without paying a penny
I just don't see why they don't donate them to charity. It's good PR, recycling and EASIER than destroying all of those discs one by one

So true.I like how bashful video game conversations start.
"Yeah uh.. <testing the waters> have you played that uh, Realm Reborn, or uh, you know, whatever?"
"I played the one on PS2." <working backwards now>

Because capitalism. If donating them to charity gave them a bigger tax write off than writing it off as unsellable product, they would. So if you really want to see companies do this, start focusing on trying to make donating to charity a better write off than unsellable product .
I used to work for GAME. My manager would trash left over promo items all the time. Games, figurines, limited edition peripherals.
I suggested he run incentives and use then as staff prizes, but he insisted it was against company policy.
Later found out it wasn't and he just enjoyed watching us trash the stuff.

The cop asks you: "So, Lightning, uh?"
You answer correctly, you go scott free. You answer wrong, you go to jail. What do you do?
Taking up store space they could use for things that cost more?

you ask permission to go through their garbage?Very rarely do people get into actual trouble. It's not illegal unless the owners press charges. GameStop DDs usually have permission as well, like me
This is pretty cool tho. Cops are people who like things??!
LolDat white privilege
The legality of dumpster diving varies by city and state. That doesn't answer the question if you plan on dumpster diving check out your local and state laws first.
Some places as soon as an item hits the "curb" in as trash it's considered public property other areas not so much.
Let's say you were to jump in the dumpster and have a nail go through your foot, is Gamestop liable? No idea, but it could probably end up in court. That's why I don't blame places that lock up their dumpsters.
Why would they throw away functional systems instead of selling them? Are the employees not allowed to take home all that stuff? I still can't believe they throw away fully functional 360s and PSPs.

Dumpster diving looks about as disgusting as I imagined
A shocking revelation to a great part of Gaf, no doubt.
It was pretty cool to see cops just being human, really.
