Gears of War Judgement |OT| Brothers from the beginning, Bros till the end

Jumped into Gears 1 for a couple of matches, and man... this game holds up well.
Not as responsive (moving from cover to cover) as the later games, but still fun. Also forgot there isn't a crosshair for the Gnasher

I'm horrible, but it felt pretty great getting this shot.

I actually wish you could remove the crosshairs in Versus. After 3 games without one all it does is distracts me.

There's a crosshair in Versus?!?!!

Sidenote, my GF took my copy back today and replaced it. Lets hope I manage to get the disc read inside of an hour tonight.

Finished both the campaigns,Judgement while fun was a stripped down one whereas Aftermath is probably my favorite Gears campaign, now I don't think I have any use for my 360 anymore since other games which I want will be on PC and/or PS3 too so I'm probably going to sell it.

Personally, the game finally totally clicked for me last night in TDM and FFA - I played MP Friday night and I had only average matches, but last night I was basting like I usually do in Gears, not even letting chumps get close enough to melee, and had some gorgeous blindfire headshots with the Breechshot, right up to some lovely Longshot blindfires at point-blank range in one shot. So good. I just wished I had more maps for FFA, TDM and Domination at launch, but I enjoy the maps we have now, and Execution and the two free maps come next week.

Yeah last night after I made that post I went and played some more and the game really clicked for me last night. I was finally doing decent and not just getting a few kills here and there. Again, I dont have a point of reference but this game just keeps getting better the more I play. I only play TDM though so again probably should explore the game more.

This is such a noob exp, but I had my first wave of chainsaw kills last night and omg it was sooo satisfying. Something about revving up the chainsaw and running into a small space like a maniac and slicing someone up or surprising them by running around the corner is just too funny on so many levels.

One more bit. I'd love to see some DLC extend the dynamic spawns or add more challenges. Some of the spaces in the game are huge but don't seem to be taken full advantage of. Like when you reach the Academy, the first courtyard area is huge with all kinds of side passages and cover spots, but every time I've played it, the action seems limited to one corner. If some more remixes were added I'd probably bite. The more dynamic and unexpected the better.

some of these big sprawling SP areas could make for some good MP maps. that courtyard was one and the big rotunda at the villa was another.

Man I miss the way the heads exploded in Gears 1. Just hasn't been the same since.

I can't remember: you can't pick up new weapons in Survival can you? I think that might be why it's not quite as satisfying as Horde. Nice that you can play with bots though.

looks much nicer and darker than the fruit fest that was in gears 3 and gowj.

Got the Seriously Achievement today, which is getting all Declassified missions at full stars on Insane, and it's ridiculous in a good way at how hard it is, but regardless, I got all four Seriously Achievements in all four Gears titles and rocking the medal once again.

Gears is a series I just can never get enough of - it can make you crazy, but the experience and visceral gameplay is unlike anything out there, and when it's going good you feel great.

Skilotonn, do you find the Breechshot to be more effective on the whole hip-fired, or do you only resort to that for high-tension encounters where hard-aiming simply isn't feasible? Such a rad gun to use, but only if you're doming blokes :(.

Sorry for the super-late response man, was busy with Gears all afternoon & evening, but I usually keep the hard-aiming for when they're across the map or popping in and out from a corner, and hip-firing for everything in between short to medium range, and staying on the move the whole time to throw them off. It's works perfectly since shots are back to Gears 1-style with coming out of the center of the screen, so when I do this, I focus on centering the enemy's head on-screen and then - bam.

So I do use it like you thought, you'll get the hang of it soon enough.

So very true. Had a few very good games today in TDM (20 kills +) and when you are on a roll with the confidence flowing I dont think there is anything out there like it. Gears is still the most satisfying and personal multiplayer game on the 360.

Far too satisfying putting a Gnasher in somebody face and hearing their head go pop. Even after all of these years it still makes people go ''Ooooooohhhh'' when somebody gets gibbed.

I remember there being a pic of some characters before the game was released. It had a bulletsyorm character on it. I'm really curious and would love to see it again if anyone has it?

Finished the main campaign last night. T'was fun, and I can't wait to play it 4player on Insane (although it will probably kill me, lol).

Gonna do Aftermath tonight, and probably have a little go on multiplayer too.

I still need to do Gears 2 and 3 on Insane co-op too, but my co-op buddy recently had 2 more kids, so we rarely get top play together anymore. I managed Gears 1 on Insane in single player, but I don't think I'll ever manage to do 2 or 3 the same way again, definitely not this one either (not with all the declassifieds).

I actually had quite a bit of fun playing Domination last night. I know I'm doing a bit of a 180 on it .. well not really since I still don't really care for the SP but some of the MP changes are interesting and kind of fun. I like the Marksa a lot. I also like that people are running around the map with all variety of weapons and seem to be using them appropriately. I really like the ability to toss a grenade quickly. I am also glad that they give you the option to twirl the grenade and aim like Gears of old. No longer getting stuck on a short drop from cover is also REALLY nice.

The Gondola map has grown on me and so has Rig and Library. I don't think these maps are as good as the maps that shipped with Gears 3 but I am still enjoying them. I am actually looking forward to getting home tonight and hopping on the game. Also, I really like Overrun and love playing as the Locust.
See, when people quit complaining that it isn't Gears 3 they might realize that Judgment is a very fun game on its own. I didn't much like Domination, but TDM, FFA , OR, and Survival are all very fun modes. I was shocked to join some of my non Gaf friends for a ranked match to see that they were loading up Overrun.

The campaign has also grown on me. My first playthrough annoyed me with its paper-thin story and focus on declassified stuff. However, story doesn't matter much during a second playthrough and I'm now finding some of the enemy encounters much more fun. The game really looks great visually too.

I will say that one cool thing with PCF's new setup is that it really made me feel like I was at war and trying to survive battle against the Locust with the amounts of enemies on screen. I did enjoy what PCF did here with the SP campaign by also incorporating tower defense, horde like elements, just wish there was more to it with fortification and building defenses.

Then I played some Aftermath, and enjoyed the add-on campaign quite a bit. It had the original Gears pace and the trek to getting through Halvo Bay was quite awesome. I know a lot of people have given up on this franchise for one reason or another, but I absolutely adore the characters and story even though I think EPIC has to a degree made a little bit of a mess with the story.

If anything, I hope with the next release if PCF are working on it that we do get a bit more story than we did with Judgment. I just find it hard going from a series that has been presented with a rich history/story driven campaigns to becoming very limited. Personally, screw the COD crowd, you are not going to get them by making these kind of changes. Look at how many games like Socom 4 that tried to go COD and it not only killed the franchise but also closed down a good developer.

tsilon.ca had some jackass compromise a bunch of codes so here's some DLC they want used instead of sold on ebay.

I played some Gears 1 annex last night. Man even though the hit detection was complete shit I had so much fun playing that game. The sound design was amazing in that game. The Lancer feels appropriately heavy and lethal. The shotgun sounds like it will tear anything in its way to pieces. The simplicity of the weapons and map design was a breath of fresh air. The game felt raw and oppressive. I popped Judgment in right after and saw dudes with neon lancers and blinking Skelton armor. What happened :(

Got the Seriously Achievement today, which is getting all Declassified missions at full stars on Insane, and it's ridiculous in a good way at how hard it is, but regardless, I got all four Seriously Achievements in all four Gears titles and rocking the medal once again.

So, what's the best way to do it, solo or with 1,2,3 coop partners? Since it's going to take 29 more weeks to get war supporter I'm not going to kill myself trying to do all the insane 3 stars in a row but I solo'd the first 3 missions on insane and that seems to be working well so far.

i've only done one chapter so far but it seems like it's best with 2-3 people. if it's only you, the locust will make a b-line for you. then, if your in a 4 player party it means there's more of a chance that one person will die, making you restart.

we had the one NPC act as our "bait". he would run up like a madman and distract all the mobs while we picked them off. NPC's don't die when going DBNO, even on Insane.

tried about half the Anya codes and handful of Dom and nothing. I would assume that they are all used already.

I think insane is much easier solo. The bots can do most of the work and you can hang back and pick enemies off. I'm halfway through the campaign on insane this way. I tried co-op with 4 players first, but someone would always die. There's just too many random chances to get one-shotted that causes people to eventually die.

This is why I like down but not out in my gears, if you do get 1 shot sniped you usually went down but had a fighting chance to get revived, I think insane in gears 2 and 3 insta killed you but I was great to have in other settings.

Finished GOWJ, this might replace GOW2 as my favorite Gears campaign. I can see myself replaying this campaign multiple times.

+ Graphics. Some of the dust / smoke classified missions looked next gen. The last boss fight looked amazing. The improved image quality and lighting makes GOWJ a noticeably better looking game than Gears 3.

+ Gameplay. Almost every single mission was more fun than most encounters in Gears 3. Automated turrets are a hoot.

+ Meat Cleavers. The declassified mission was a hoot.

+ Length. This took me a good 7 hours on hardcore to beat, which is longer than what I expected.

- Story. Weakest and most forgettable story in the franchise. The crucial details of the story were presented in a manner that could have been easily missed.

On to insane difficulties and other modes!

This reminds me - I'm calling out those people who said this was a 4 hour campaign and reminding everyone else that these guys played on Normal or easier, didn't do a single Declassified Mission, and may not even be counting Aftermath as part of the campaign.

Still having a blast with this game's MP. There are two things that must be changed, though. First is the 2-piece, it's way to easy to do on this game, and in combination with a Gnasher (or any weapon...) it's insane. Sure, doing one in a pinch is fucking lifesaving, but it's too rampant overall.

The Stim grenade was probably a good idea on paper, but is absolutely awful in execution. It is so fucking annoying. I have to basically run away and it really ruins the flow of shit.

The scorcher, while really annoying, is only on one map so I can deal. I really can't wait for more maps.

The stim and smoke nades are both pretty ridiculous. I have barely seen smoke thankfully, but a few people I've run into have used them extremely effectively. Using it to stun you while they run up to gnasher you.

Yeah, smokes are pretty damn effective, but you have to have some skill to use them effectively. If you're too close, you'll smoke yourself and get stunned (this happens a lot); but if you're too far away, the person can back away and then the effect will wear off by the time you get to them. You've gotta find the perfect range/timing to do it, this makes it okay.

The stim on the other hand is just bullshit.

Finished Aftermath last night (so good), and even played in the event so I could get that team weapon skin... I was terrible, lol. 3 kills and 6 deaths. I see now what everyone means by multi being confusing with everyone as cogs... I could barely tell which team anyone was on until they got a bit closer so I could see the colours properly. The names above the heads of your team mates is only really any use if everyone's seperated out, but the match I was in was a clusterfuck. Practically everyone from both teams dancing around eachother trying to kill eachother/capture a ring made it difficult to see who's head the name was floating above. Of course, by the time I figure it out I've been killed... naturally.

It really doesn't help when people are using animated rainbow skins either as there's points when regardless of which team they're on the whole character is either majority red or majority blue due to the stupid rainbow effect.

I know everyone's complaining about it, so I hope they sort it out so it can be CoG Vs. Locust again. All the assets are there, I don't know what could be stopping them.

Rushing into a gnasher battle, dudes take a hit from my gnasher, immediately throws down Stim Grenade to restore health .. gibs me to pieces. Cheesiest BS ever. Seeing this tactic used over and over again. Actually seeing it used as a coordinated strategy by groups of people. Lame.

They should change stims so that they heal anyone, not just members of one team.

For one, it makes no fucking sense that it only heals one team[/pedant]
For two, it would make people think twice about how and where to use them.
For three... well, don't need three cos the first two were so good.

how about the melee bullshit.

go into a Gnasher battle, shooting the enemy 2-3 times while getting closer only to have him melee me, get stunned and gibbed.

look at the melee range. absurd http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScigplKfTf0

I would just make them a pick-up. this way it won't be abused as much.

I gotta say, after my third playthrough of the Judgment campaign, this is my favorite Gears to date. Yeah the story is minimal and not as epic(pun intended) as the main trilogy but the rush of the gameplay is second to none especially on hardcore and insane. There is no filler in between stages and on the higher difficulty levels you must work together as a team on co-op if you intend to survive. I absolutely love the changes to the grenade button and weapon swap. It also helps that this is one of the best looking console games period as it is pushing all kinds of different effects on screen.

In FFA I've come across players desperately trying to get near me as if using melee is the only way they know how to win. It's gotten to the stage where I've had to use melee to smack the fuckers back. Shit is like an infection.

Melee shouldn't even do any damage, excluding the chainsaw and retro. Other weapons should only stun.

I've had that too, they don't even bother shooting first anymore.

it's going to be shitty for them when they fix it. they'll be so used to 2-piece that it's going to come back and bite them in the ass when they realize it doesn't work and force them to readjust or quit.

Melee, stim granades, small number of maps, lack of locusts in mp and no warzone/execution modes are the reasons why I already sold this game (first game that I sold this gen).
This is a perfect example of wasted potential, because there is a lot of good changes in this game, the core gameplay was really good; I had this one man army feeling from Gears 1 here too and the shotgun itself along with shotgun fights were closest to these in Gears 1.
On the other hand I felt ripped off because of skins(character skins are one of the ugliest things I saw in games lately), too few maps and modes,no Horde (survival is too similar to overrun) and no arcade mode in campaign.
Plus there is too much cheap stuff like melee, stim granades and boomshield -shotgun combo.
TDM is one of the things that destroyed Gears of War and now they threw away exe and warzone and left only this mode.
I will probably buy it again used when there are more maps, modes and hopefully some changes to B B B B B B B B.

There is nothing but retards on survival. Holy shit I have never seen anyone stupider in all of my years playing Xbl. We need a gaf survival group asap

Finished a second solo runthrough of the main campaign. Hardcore, all declassified challenges activated except for the timed ones and the very last one (seemed like I needed more teamwork than I was going to get from the AI).

Loved it, especially the visibility challenges and the ones that restrict your loadout. None of the visibility effects seem to be re-used, so the smoke filled room played out differently than the gas filled rooms, which felt different from "damage reduces visibility", with the Dragon Age levels of blood soaked on your character model.

But my favorite challenges were definitely the no-ammo, boltok+longshot only, no health regen and cleavers only ones. Holy shit those were fun and intense.

Still loving replaying this because its so pure in its straight up instant gratification. Just solid action with great mechanics so I can see this being a goto game for a while when I just need to blow some stuff up, solo or co-op.

Next up, giving the aftermath campaign a try, and then going back to solo insane before trying to get a co-op group together.
