Genshin Impact has had the highest first-year gaming revenue of all time. Beats GTA V, Fortnight. Makes more money than Vegas casinos.

Genshin Impact isn't on Xbox? I had no idea. Well, +1 for Xbox.
Its likely due to free to play games not being free to play on Xbox till relatively recently.
You needed XBLG to play F2P games so Mihoyo likely thought people wouldnt bother playing the F2P game if they still had to pay money.....and would be less likely to spend in game knowing they are already paying for XBLG.
F2P is truly F2P now but Mihoyo still havent ported the game.

On Topic.
Unity is still a crap engine, but ive been enjoying my time with Genshin impact.
Im not as obsessed with getting characters are other people are and I basically leveled all the best 4 star characters into absolutle beast that I dont even have the urge to get the current 5 star beyond FOMO.
Heck i dont use my 5 stars as is cuz Its too late to level them and testing them out they are worse than my 4 stars.

Not gonna lie though....that Hu Tao banner almost got me to spend.
I was so close I basically had to simply not play the game till the banner was gone to hold my shit together.
Im close to pity and have been saving so next time Hu Tao arrives.......we in there!

What's surprised me is that Fortnite didn't make more, considering all the teenagers buying customes and whatnot.

I find GTA V, RDR 2, and Animal Crossing the most impressive, considering they didn't use microtransactions. (or did gta and rdr2 have that in multiplayer at launch?)

GTA Online is absolutely terrible in that regard man, same goes to RDR Online.

They force you to play in open lobbies and basically you'll be griefed to death and be forced to buy cards for money.

That's my biggest problem with GTA O and the reason I never spent a dime there.

Mona and Qiqi
Both a great characters. Mona is an epic support which your future Hu Tao will definitely appreciate. QiQi... well, she will keep you alive no matter what. So yeah, level them both up, just don't expect any DMG from them.

LMAO.

That's... sick!

For everyone who is interested in and wanna talk about GI, we have an |OT|:

I’d be more inclined to buy stuff on Genshin if characters were standalone purchases like in Fortnite or other games with daily/weekly shop offers. The gacha mechanics simply feel too scummy for me.

I ask this anytime Genshin Impact is mentioned. Why is this not on xbox? Why?
Probably because it's not very relevant (core market for this kind of games is Asia first and foremost) and Mihoyo already struggle to scale up it's developing force to think about one more platform.
Based on collaboration and initial approach Sony put some efforts (maybe even provided help) to get it on playstation.

I've played a bit and it's decent enough and while very much a gatcha game I wouldn't call it predatory.

I got fed up with it being in many ways a Zelda copy and the waifu/husbando aesthetic. They've made the aesthetic fit well, but I just don't want to be looking at that for hours on end. Apparently many people do like that though.

So Genshin is stealing while BOTW is inspired by other games? Gotcha. 😵‍💫

I dont understand your logic here. So Genshin is a copy paste of BOTW but you still didnt like it? In other words it should basically be the same type of game?

Granted i’ve only played BOTW twice. Never tried Genshin, only seen some gameplay.
It also bug me to see people "oh they steal it from Zelda botw" Everytime a game has the parachute thing like in horizon FW, while it was already in a game like AC brotherhood that was release way, lke waaaaaay before botw.

I've sunk many hours in. Solid game. Not predatory in the slightest. Not forced to buy anything at any point. I paid because i felt the game gave me so much and I wanted to contribute. Also wanted some cooler shit.

And this here people is the problem, if you read this you would think "oh hey its not so bad"

Except two things stand out, the guy saying you can play for peanuts later admits that they consistently throw money on it, and that it does not "push" you towards the cash shop despite the game having the highest earnings of any title this year.

Yeah see how these do not add up? And this is the issue with addicts they can't see it and say "oh it's not so bad its just money I had lying about anyway" is no one seeing the similarities with actual real world gamblers here?

Remember this is for a title with "no endgame" which means the only value this game provides you with is the dopamine rush when anouther hard to get character or weapon (all in lootboxes naturally) slide into place. This is by design, if you had things worth doing that are enjoyable and rewarding by just playing the game, that's money away from the cash shop, the design requires them to limit the possible enjoyment at the endgame otherwise people won't pay, its a balancing act but this game seems to have nailed it.

I am not saying there is not a great game hidden under there somewhere, but what I am saying is that the game is designed not to be great on purpose to get you to spend, and as the stats show its working. People saying "they don't push you" are stating this against the actual design documentation that this game was built on... that's how effective it is, the company does not have to defend it, the addicts do that for them.
Totally agree with you, it is the same argument that adults make about being beaten as kids but hey they turned out fine :messenger_winking:

Love how you can easily spot the people that have never played Genshin but just like to bash on it in this topic.

No, the game doesnt push you towards the cash shop. It doesn't have 1736 different currencies to confuse you. It's a 100% perfectly playable without spending a single cent on it. And even if you wanna spend money on it, it's very clear how much everything costs since there's no ingame conversion or whatever. A month of premium simply costs €5 or whatever. Every single game is designed to make money, one way or the other. Genshin is simply a good, or even great, game that knows people who enjoy themselves don't mind throwing a little money at it to try and get their favorite waifu's.

Yes, it is still a gacha game. There's a daily grind if you want. Or you can ignore it after you complete each story update. Up to you. But it's no more grindy than pretty much every other online game on the market right now, including the full price ones.

After two years and close to 500 hours I've spent roughly €90 on it, which is a very fair proposition to me. I haven't played it in 6 weeks or so, but once I have my Switch backlog under control again I'll dive into the new update.
