I remember the last time a top secret game I didn't see coming was teased: I sat deeply reclined into my winged chair kissing a cup of let's say rather vintage green tea, as I am wont to do, when a Geoff Keighley Twitter update abruptly culled my attention from a blithe disregard for the outside world. The cup hit the floor shattering into a myriad of pieces. This was it, what I had been waiting for: I suddenly knew nothing about a game I mere seconds before hadn't known even existed. I unwittingly called my mother, remembered she had died several years ago, slipped on the spilled tea and, staring at the plaster flaking off the ceiling, recited my favorite song sotto voce: "I'm so excited and I just can't hide it. I'm about to lose control, but I think I like it."

The same exact thing happened just now.

I don't see how you aren't supporting it. He delivered a new IP from a studio that's generally considered to be one of the best in gaming. You aren't going to get much better than that as far as new IP's go. But you agreed that sequels would've justified the hype. I'm not sure how they would considering that everyone knows that there's going to be another Half Life, HALO, GTA etc. It's only a matter of when those companies choose to announce them. No one knew that ND was working on a new IP. You even had some people fearing that they were going to be "stuck" only working on Uncharted sequels.

Yes, but new IP is only a question of who and when also really.

A standard sequel to an established AAA IP wouldn't justify it no but with a twist it probably would have.

To me a good example is metal gear rising. Pretend that game was not announced prior and it had its first reveal at the VGAs: now THAT would have justified all of his hype into something people probably wouldn't have believed and wouldn't have saw coming.

It's an established IP with a new twist being developed by collaboration from 2 different dev studios who have never worked together before producing something different than what that series is known for. That would have done it and people would have been floored. But again we just got a zombie game from naughty dog, and despite my moaning it will assuredly still be a great game, but it was a crap reveal.
