Ghost In The Shell (2017) Trailer

Sorry but no - it's a good soundtrack but really not suitable for a trailer

Yea, Making of a Cyborg's haunting chant doesn't really work for a trailer with the Major walling running while taking out dudes. The person at least edited the trailer but there's not way to make the trailer footage fit.

The director at least realised how perfect it was for the body creation scene but then they amped it up near the end to ruin the sombre tone of both the sequence and the song.

Looots of nitpicking in this thread.

I think I read someone here say that wanted Scarlet's voiced digitally altered to sound more tin-y too? Like what???¿¿¿

Opinions. I do think it's much better that the AMV level garbage remix of the official trailer.
Fuck that trend of shitty remixes / Covers in trailers that have nothing to do with the movie. I want the "BRAAAAAAAAMM" back.

this will be a shallow mess with some recreated scenes as fanservice, a shoehorned hollywood "who am I" story and no understanding of what makes the source material great. this trailer.. it lacks taste. and the music was awful. the aesthetic appeals to people who like anything out of the concept art factory but it lacks any of the nuance of the original works. it reminds me of the total recall remake and other crap from recent years. I would have much prefer this to be something like what Chronicle is to Akira. Something new and unique that draws inspiration from a great work, instead we'll get a streamlined focus tested pile of shit.

people are impressed with anything that looks sci fi these days. as long as shit is going on they are happy.
We're impressed they got the look of GitS down. They could have had this look like I, Robot.

DUDE! You better be joking :)

The shitty music they chose for the official trailer was fucking sad. How could they not have had the main theme for the film in the trailer is beyond me. Instead they give us some modern bullshit that starts at 01:10 in the trailer... wtf is that shit

hardly a trend, trailers have been using music that isn't related to the movie for years. it's all about tone, and the music in the trailer fitted the visuals very much so.

probably because it's a trailer for an action film that's marketed towards a general audience? and also because trailer editing is an art which requires pacing, which those songs don't have at all?

"modern bullshit" lmfao. "remember when music was good guys????? music turned to shit after 1995!!!!!!!"

Looks much, much, better than I was really expecting it to. Quietly excited to see this now, just hope my cinema puts on some decent showings.

That's the kind of thing that people would expect that Hollywood would do with GitS, but not actually want them to do. I really don't want Hollywood to make this a popcorn movie. But considering the angle they seem to be taking the plot it seems like that's probably what we're getting.

It's been a while but I think they have the look, but what I'm concerned about is the story. Just have to see how it pans out.

From the look of the visuals I think we can give them the benefit of the doubt. Sure, the plot and characters might be absolutely garbage - but we have no idea until we see the film. The one thing we can get from this trailer that we know will be the same in the final movie, is the visuals. And from that alone I'm willing to give them a chance - I can tell that A LOT of people really cared about making this movie faithful to the original, and seeing people here shit all over it really makes me feel bad for all the people involved. I don't think people understand just how much worse this adaption could've been.

FFS, it isn't the original. The original is, shock horror, the original Ghost in the Shell manga; the original series that was serialised between 89 and 90. Key parts of the definition of original are "first", "earliest", etc.
Or you could see the word "original" as opposed to "adaptation" (like the adaptation this very thread is about, incidentally).
Besides, the people you were replying to didn't even use that term anyway... They were just talking about "the manga" and "volume 2". Nothing inaccurate there.

Saying that MMI is the original is like saying the The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, etc, are the original Star Wars films.
Wouldn't be that weird in a discussion about, say, Clone Wars.

Innocence is drop dead gorgeous but turns into a bit of a mess near the end. It is interesting but flawed. Probably worth watching for the visuals alone but conceptually a weaker entry in the franchise.

Well, I mostly like the first movie for the mood and atmosphere, more so than its themes :)

it ruined the entire trailer for me though, that music didnt add anything to pacing etc.

I can't wait for ScarJo to be cast as the lead in Battle Angle Alita.

aside from getting back Kenji, Mansell was the best case scenario for this movie.

He could have went with somebody a lot less inspired for this. Glad they got somebody who's on that synthwave tho.

There's a completely different sensibility of GITS property in comparison to other type of western products. Kawai/Kanno are a big part of that. I don't think Mansell soundspace is appropriate to GITS, nor do I think the art direction showed has anything to do with Ghost in the Shell. But that's a peeve of mine as a big fan. I know what I will get (that sort of winky shit to fans that I hate).

Innocence is conceptually weaker?

Gits is a better film than Innocence, but if there's one thing Innocence exceeds is the conceptualization of man/machine/doll. It's a formidable look between the blurred lines of human and machine evolution.

Simply using licensed music isn't a problem. It's how a trailer is edited and directed. The Logan trailer is absolutely amazing and so powerful because the imagery and pacing and music all fit together into a great two minute trailer. The GitS trailer feels like a generic action trailer in its direction and music choice. It doesn't feel like as much thought was put into it.

I'm not making any judgements about the movie, just the trailer itself.

A lot of people seem to have a really inflated sense of the original movie. Like it blew their mind when they were 15 and then they just stuck to that assessment and never reevaluated later.

The worst of it was always the lifeless robot motoko people took away from it.

Is anyone else bothered that when 'naked', she just looks like she is wearing a thick spandex? I am not saying she is fat, but it doesn't look like it is just her naked body. It looks like a thick padded bodysuit on her.

Ex Machina did it right.

The Geisha thing just seems like a Blade Runner reference. Not that GitS wasn't already heavily inspired by Blade Runner in the first place.

That's cus she's wearing a suit and because they wanted a PG-13 rating.

The killer robot geishas are from SAC. Apart from the guys rushing in and shooting everyone, that whole scene is.

I was actually thinking of the giant holographic geisha advertisement.

So if you draw a naked woman, even with nipples, but draw a line they stop being naked. I wonder if you can get away with the same thing if you bodypaint a naked body.

It's actually a current problem with comic artist that people are trying to address. Too many female characters have skintight outfits that look like body paint.

💡 additional naked woman identification tips💡

note the folds along the hip. these folds are not traditionally found on the nude female form. additional, many fabrics are quite sheer, clinging to the skin closely when stretched taut. I will leave it to the audience to conduct further research on this particular matter.

looked good, the only shot i was 'eh' about is the one where Majorhansson comes out of the camo.

needed stamina rose or inner universe as the trailer song, though.

I saw the trailer, seemed derivative with direct references to the original and SAC. Not expecting much because I very much doubt the studio would have green lighted a high budget existential film. It will skirt the themes of the original source and wrap it into an origin story.

The giant holograms in the city are daft.
