Giant Bomb GOTY 2015 - Metal Gear Meets Its Mario Maker

The Big Ones!!!!

I'm going to get a little wild and loose here with you all but honesty is the only way I know how to live: marshmallows aren't my thing. Don't like the texch (texture).

The MOTHERFUCKING ONLY thing mayo is good for is turkey sandwiches.

please, put your anger towards the real problem

people who dont like their marshmallows fully burnt and black in their smores

Yep, fuck them. Gotta have that mallow crispy and black on the outside. Gotta taste like the woods.

Marshmallow is great. A-tier candy, at least when combined with chocolate. Great as part of a candy bar (Ever had one of those old discontinued Smores bars from Hershey's? Fucking sublime), toasted, or paired with hot cocoa.

I can see how just eating one 'raw' can be rough, but it's still pretty good.

Toasted Marshmallow is also the GOAT jelly belly flavor.

Mayo is good on all sandwiches, spinach dip, that-thing-vampires-hate-but-I-can't-remember dip

You are a foolish fool. The only standard condiment worth a flying fuck is mustard. ONLY mustard. Ketchup is tomatoes in sugar, relish is murdered green stuff, and mayo is eggs somehow posthumously aborted and mashed into a paste.

Mustard is pure and good compared to all that.

I love condiments but Mustard is really the best. Any form of it. Gimme that fuckin' mustard, baby.

Mayo is always a roll of the dice. Can't trust it but by god I'll respect it. Ketchup, yeah. I'm not mad at it.

Mayo is gross, relish is gross, sour cream is gross, mustard is mediocre leaning towards gross*, ketchup is ok, bbq sauce is pretty good, hot sauce is the best.

*I like spicy mustard but regular mustard is all the way gross.

Mayo itself isn't a condiment. It's an ingredient that some crazy people use as a condiment.

You can put shit in mayo to make it a great condiment as it's a very neutral base, but by itself it's not meant to be eaten.

Not very GOTY related, but I just watched stubborngamer's run of Armageddan, and there's absolutely no way Patrick's gonna beat this legit without taking hints or reading comments/chat. None whatsoever. Holy fuck.

Dan, if you read this, you're incredible for coming up with this. And also a monster.

Nah, as a south east Asian I must rep some sambal belachan as the GOAT sauce.

Weak ass people thinking that srirachai is a good hot sauce but not recognising the taste sensation that is sambal belachan.

I don't get why people like sriracha so much, it's ok on some stuff, but it is in no way a good utility hot sauce.

Relatedly, I made my own salsa yesterday and blinded myself for ten minutes.

Off Topic: I'm playing Yakuza 4 and accidentally triggered a cutscene outside a building that changed the time of day. Now I'm locked out of a huge chunk of Kazuma's side quests until the very end of the game.

That sucks game. Don't do that!

These end of year podcasts are where Alex really shines. He's good at distilling arguments down without being reductive, he champions his favorites but doesn't stubbornly hold onto them if he knows he's out numbered, and he remembers and points out the opinions of other's in the room when helpful. I know he's not everyone's taste as a personality, but in terms of just having discussions about games, he can be really good.

For that matter, Dan is actually surprisingly good at framing arguments and finding common ground too, although so far this year he's done it less than the GOTY pods last year.

It was surprising to see Austin and Vinny get into one of the most heated discussions of the year. I think Austin could be a potential second Brad. THE BATTLE LINES ARE BEING DRAWN.

Just his solo chapter, right? I'm sure you get another chance later.

I know the unlock again at the final chapter. I just hate it when games force transition you elsewhere without warning. Especially true of open world stuff where you might be planning other things.

It's not killer, but it does suck.

I like mayo more than I probably should. It is an essential part of most sandwiches.

It is questionable on burgers, though, but not necessarily bad.

I just remembered last year's most disappointing argument, where Jeff made an impassioned speech about Destiny being a legendary car crash at launch and then they decided to give it to W_atc_h__D0gz.

(Ironically, back then the argument for WD was that this Ubisoft open world game had a slick BS debut trailer with an interesting hook - I know, shocking - so it was disappointing that it somehow managed to be a Ubisoft open world game).

I would definitely say Watch Dogs is the biggest disappointment

Destiny was atleast still fun back then

Some of these guest top tens are pretty weird. Though I (think) there's a lot more than last year, so this is par for the course.
I love the diversity, especially from devs, but gotta say Rich Gallup's list kinda rubs me the wrong way. Friend of the site and all that but ever since he came to F2P Mobile Jesus I just can't relate to where he's coming from. Feels like he's trying to sell me something whenever he appears lately instead of just rapping about games.

I do appreciate Brad bringing up the fact that they dismiss too quickly the more orchestral soundtracks in their GOTY discussions. I was amazed that they didn't nominate Child of Light last year, at least I don't think they did, and they didn't nominate Journey? Crazy talk. I don't think they should necessarily win but they deserve to be in the discussion.

I don't see how what he does when he appears is different from any other dev that only shows up once in a while comes on. The come in, talk about what they're working on and then move on to other shit. He's enthusiastic about what he's doing, but the only difference between him and other devs is that he works on mobile games.

His list seems to be all mobile F2P stuff this year because he's been playing that for research. Sounds like dude's a real busy guy and doesn't have time for much outside of that.

Actually the fallout 4 actually does make less sense though because they have scaled back. You can't really kill every NPC now. Plus I felt like the radiant AI stuff isn't even as deep as it was.

I agree. Though I feel like because videogame music has its roots in 8 bit chiptunes and the like, the more techno-y music feels like a more natural progression of video game music and so there's a strong bias in its favor.

God so much podcast so little time to listen to podcasts. I need this stuff for my daily way to work, not when I'm sitting here, damnit.

Dan's good at arguments because he's genuinely a smart guy, even if does his best to obfuscate the fact :D In terms of general understanding of how the world works, he's sort of a 6-year-old at times, but he's not an idiot at all. Guy grew on me a lot over the year.

Austin seems to fill a very specific spot the crew was missing it seems, I'm happy he's there. He's not "the funny guy", but he's got impeccable knowledge, he brings the "Japan" back into videogames after Jeff's given up on it, and he's a cheerful, always happy guy it seems.

Alex is just an overall great, relatable and super funny guy :)

Man I'm sad we don't get the whole crew together anymore apart from the super occasional meetup.

It's not just this list, more a culmination of previous appearances where I get a salesman vibe I don't get from other guests. I get it, he's working on a Star Trek game. Would be more palatable with just the iOS F2P stuff.

He's pretty much only talked about it because the crew asked him about it. It's also clear he hasn't had much time outside of that. I'm honestly not sure what your beef is.

Even though Undertale got snubbed for best music (over MGSV which is duuuuumb) I am happy Splatoon won overall. That soundtrack is fresh.

The goddamn hypocrisy of Austin and Brad when defending Fallout 4 is the worst. "You can't armchair designer and say it can be fixed, but we can and say it can't."

As I said, I actually remembered it and I haven't even played it. Also that Dreamcast game comparison from Jeff was so spot on. Hotline 2 got robbed though.

I love Austin, but I disagree so much with him on Fallout 4.
