The goddamn hypocrisy of Austin and Brad when defending Fallout 4 is the worst. "You can't armchair designer and say it can be fixed, but we can and say it can't."
Love Jeff's position on Bethesda and Fallout
too much money and too much time doing the same thing

I completely agree. Brad and Austin argument was complete nonsense and the fact that they kept repeating it was a shame.

As I said, I actually remembered it and I haven't even played it. Also that Dreamcast game comparison from Jeff was so spot on. Hotline 2 got robbed though.
I love Austin, but I disagree so much with him on Fallout 4.
Best part of that most disappointing argument was that it went to that Toy Soldiers game little to no objection, something no follower of Giant Bomb predicted because no one even remembered it existed, plus it never seemed like they brought it up that much compared to the more high profile stuff.
I am so disappointed that Austin championed Fallout 4.
Telling designers to not design encounters because it arbitrarily limits their ambition is just the most nonsensical thing ever. It's like saying New Vegas is shit because it encourages a certain path to get to the titular city, despite the fact that it's only softly gated and you can cut straight through deathclaw-infested lands if you're really ballsy/good.
I'll echo what Jeff said about DOA Xtreme 3: Demand More.
It's beyond clear Bethesda just have to step it up for the next Elder Scrolls.
This level of jank and bugs will not be as blindly accepted by critics and Bethesda fans for another time on consoles especially.

They also need to come up with new stuff that isn't just further dumbing down the formula. Otherwise I won't even look at it next time around.

It's hard to know when the dropoff will appear, it could ding the next title, it might not. They are spaced out enough that one tends to forget the issues they had with the last one.Sales, reviews, and the wider community reaction seems far closer to Austin's POV than anything else. I think it's pretty clear they can just slap together Skyrim again, in a new area with slightly higher res assets, a building mechanic and strip out even more of the RPG elements and people will eat that shit up.

You think? Sales numbers are up on Skyrim. Every game seems to sell better than the last.

I just remembered last year's most disappointing argument, where Jeff made an impassioned speech about Destiny being a legendary car crash at launch and then they decided to give it to W_atc_h__D0gz.
(Ironically, back then the argument for WD was that this Ubisoft open world game had a slick BS debut trailer with an interesting hook - I know, shocking - so it was disappointing that it somehow managed to be a Ubisoft open world game).
Sorry if this has been asked already but are there any major story spoilers on Day 2?

They talk about some late game MGSV and spoil Her Story.

Mostly in best new character, especially Witcher 3 and the Bloody Baron.
Should I play fallout 1 or skip to 2?
That's fine, this year l'm mostly concerned about mgs5 spoilers.
They spoil MGSV but give you tonnes of notice because Drew has to leave the room.

Plus new people get into these games all the time.
My uncle who was primarily a fps gamer has fallout 4 as his first and he absolutely ate it up. It consumed him in a way I've never seen before.

Which pretty much proves my point that Fallout is done being a RPG.
It's weird that even though Fallout 4 got great reviews and sold millions of copies I feel like I'm in the minority on the internet for liking it a lot.

I wouldn't be terribly shocked if Fallout 5 removed dialogue options all together and just used scripted player dialogue.
Not really. Fallout 4 sold better than ever. Certain publications actually attacked Jeff personally for daring to point out the console versions had significant flaws.
The message to Bethesda has been loud and clear for years now; keep doing what you're doing, the market will eat it up.
Why would they change? Why would anyone expect them to change?
I hate that Bethesda will never have the incentive to put in more than the minimal ever. I've given up on ever enjoying another one of their games at this point. It sucks that I will never be able to have the same feeling in one of their games that I had with Oblivion. Other companies have taken the reigns, though. CDPR does what Bethesdon't.
