Giant Bomb GOTY 2015 - Metal Gear Meets Its Mario Maker

Persona 3's story is amazing, but I wouldn't consider Persona 4 to be well written. P4 is mainly engaging characters and a handful of great moments writing-wise.

3's main narrative is better. 4's cast and overall writing because of them kicks the shit out of 3. 3's cast is good, but pretty trope-y compared to 4.

I disagree with that. It's a bit too JRPG for me to really love it.

Plus every character is so goddamn... earnest in that 80's anime way.

I can understand that, the games often feel very "Saturday Morning Cartoon", but the characters are executed exceedingly well, and shit really pops off near the ends of both games.

Persona 4 is the mass effect 2 to Persona 3's mass effect 1.

This is the perfect analogy in many ways including my love for Mass Effect 1 over 2.

Good comparison. Just because the main plot is less interesting doesn't mean the writing is bad. P4 was all about the characters for me.

I don't think P4's writing was bad overall. More that the story had plotholes you could drive a truck though and character motivations/arcs that didn't make a lot of sense.

P3 hermit link hasn't been topped yet.

Agreed so damn hard. That link is freakin perfect down to the punchline being held back until the ass ending of the game in a way that wraps it beautifully.

I dunno, I emphatise a lot with adachi's bitches ethos.

It made sense to me!

Only watching the GOTY videos now, holy shit Drew's part was hilarious. Quick, simple and funny, just what these segments should be about IMO.

You want to talk plot holes,
explain how Aigis has the power to seal super shadows into little kids

Just got to Most Disappointing on the Podcast and I cant disagree more on their views of Evolve. I played with nothing but randoms, and had way more good matches than bad ones.

What plotholes?
I don't remember the finer details of the story progression, but I remember on my second playthrough being confused in some pretty big ways about how it was all piecing together based on what I knew from my first playthrough. It had a lot of do with rules they were trying to establish with each case and in small part why they didn't just buy the TV.

P3's story isn't perfect either. I was fine with the lack of explanation since I didn't feel like it invalidated anything else in a significant way, but there are plenty of parts in P3 (especially The Answer) that could have been explained or handled better.

I love Persona 4 Golden. I couldn't get into Persona 3 Portable sady. It is boring the first 10 hours.

Alsp P4G has the superior soundtrack.

Edit: Best Debut = Best new IP ?

Hmm it's worrisome that out of everyone, Jeff is the only one who's even thinking about Bloodborne lol.

EDIT: Whoa, did not expect the latest page of this thread to be about P3 OST vs P4 OST lol

Lol @ the free pass Bethesda was getting from Brad & Austin.

They can't do any better.

Pretty embarrassing. Props to Jeff for calling it out.

Yeah, they played the "you're not a game designer you know nothing"- card.
You can apply the defense that Austin and Brad gave Fallout 4 to every other game.

P3P just didn't resonate with me, maybe because I played it after P4G.

Both OSTs are great, but there's something special to the great horns+bad rapping combo that appeals to me more.

The big thing any version of P3 has against it is that it's harder to go to after P4's more upbeat tone and more welcoming mechanics.

They're right though.

They weren't excusing it's quality. They were saying you shouldn't expect something different given the type of game Bethesda has decided to make with the type of flaws it has, especially since they sell so well.

It's kind of funny that everyone wanted Witcher to get its due, but then it gets the categories people wanted other games to win.

Paul Rand
was robbed.

Finally watching the Day 2 video and I immediately lost it at the wine and cheese reference. Good job Drew.
Oh? Oh. Ooooooh.

I thought the joke was that he's French and sophisticated whilst pretending to engage in down-to-earth and distinctly American sports rituals.

It felt good to hear Jeff go off on Bethesda for the jank in Fallout 4. Its been a decade, staff up and start to fix your games. I don't care if its hard, you should have made some progress on fixing how broken they are since Oblivion. Of course they won't change anything since FO4 has sold gangbusters. *shrug*
