The way I interpreted what Vinny was saying was that we thought we knew the limits of the Wii U until Xenoblade Chronicles X happened and therefore seeing how games run on newer consoles now isn't an indication of their technical potential.
I'm probably wrong.
I can't tell if you're joking or not.
I think it's a flawed argument though, because even if you want to use the "live testing is going to find more bugs than QA" argument, they did have live testing. It's called skyrim. They used the same engine. Sure they've bolted some stuff on but it's still the same engine underneath it all.
But isn't the point of Bethesda games pretty much "Here is a bunch of shit, go play", and that's what made them so popular? I'm not sure either Bethesda or their fans want them to tone that down. Brad and Austin's point was that that's the kind of game Bethesda wants to make and that's why it's so damn difficult to make everything work.

Of course, and that engine might be part of the problem. That's why I wasn't "disappointed" by Fallout 4. It's exactly what I thought it would be, with some tweaks to the dialogue system I didn't like. It's not close to being my top game of the year even though I liked it quite a bit, but I can't say I was disappointed by it either given what we knew about the game.

I keep wanting to give NV a pass for some reason, before remembering how many CTDs I had the entire time. the rest of the glitchiness never really bothered me.

Does anyone have the timestamp for the Jeff Fallout 4 rant?
That argument doesn't play because Bethesda isn't afraid of nerfing interesting gameplay elements in favour of expediency. Quest design, dialogue trees, the faction system, these are all lesser versions of systems that they had before. Yet they choose to keep and introduce bullshit systems that don't matter to the core of the game.

Actually all the songs with nanako as the dancer are pretty fucking good.

How is that in any way relevant? That they keep "nerfing" their RPG systems has nothing to do with them continuing to make games around what makes the Bethesda formula popular: The sandbox. That's also partly what makes those games so big in the modding community. You're just arguing that you don't like the game, which is fine, but it's not like anyone expected them to tone down the aspects that make those game so fucking huge.
Because it actually did the leg work to craft an interesting and human world. It used its systems to tell stories to actually be an RPG.
By contrast Bethesda games don't do any of that, or at least do it half heartedly. Bethesda games are essentially just open world Goat Simulator with poorly layered lore and story on top.
But were you disappointed by Fallout 4? Or was it pretty much what you expected it to be?
As I said above, why even bother with Fallout. It is clear that all they want to do is make Goat Simulator.
The latter for me honestly.
It was so obvious from Day 1 of the reveal what that game would.
I get wanting more from Bethesda, but hoping or expecting it, that's where you'd lose me.

Fallout was going to be my post-holidays game, guys! Stop making me think it's a garbage pile.
Maybe people think they do it well. Certain sites even give them GOTY awards for their games.
But were you disappointed by Fallout 4? Or was it pretty much what you expected it to be?
Rooster Teeth doesn't count.

I put it here a few pages ago, lemme grab it for you
edit: here
i'm melting here. I wish I had a Vita...
I meant the previous Bethesda game that was picked as GOTY by Giant Bomb. And that one was actually broken. Seems stupid to say these games shouldn't get made anymore.
Fallout 4 was pretty much what I expected it to be. Which is so disappointing.

Thanks!
Must have missed your post somehow
It seemed like a lot of people already had their mind made up on how they'd feel about it before the game was even announced though.
YesCan a most disappointing game even be part of the Top 10.

I'll cop to being a bit guilty of this.
I was excited about the idea of a new Fallout game, but totally unexcited about what I assumed would be a by the numbers role playing experience from a developer who hadn't released a good role playing experience in over ten years. I wish I had been wrong.
