Kokopolo 3D is the sequel to the original Go! Go! Kokopolo on DSiWare by Tanukii and Room 4 Games (which sadly had to be delisted due to Room 4 Games closing down).

Keith Webb used to work at Traveller's Tales Oxford, who some might remember were the developers of Crash Twinsanity and afterward on Super Monkey Ball Adventure. Keith was the 2D artist on those games!

036wj6o.jpg

Both games are what Keith Webb has called "Chase-em-ups". In both games, you play as the cat Kokopolo, the Okapi Tatsumo, and for the first time in Kokopolo 3D, you can also play as the spirit guardian Jinbe. All play the same but with different routes in the story. Kokopolo 3D features 80 all-new stages and 10 new bosses to fight at the end of each world.

To play, your goal is to traverse the maze like stages, and you use the A button to scratch an enemy, this causes them to get mad and chase you. Your goal is to lead as many enemies as possible into a Snap-Snap Plant. The goal is to clear all enemies in a level.

Couldn't find the first one on the eShop this morning so was wondering about that. Shame.

This sequel looks great though!

I have always been interessed in this. Never player the first one but I played enough games developed by the same company to know that their games have a certain charm. Their PSP games and Wii U one rocked :3

Looking forward to the European release date.

Are you sure you're thinking of the right developer? I don't think the creator of this game/series has made anything else on his own.

edit: you might be thinking of Dakko Dakko, makers of Scram Kitty.

Hey Skullo, I was wondering what the Bonus codes on the first game's scratch cards were going to do? I never could figure out what they were for...

ah, they were actually originally going to be used to unlock various bonuses from the website (wallpapers etc) but that didn't pan out in the end. I do, however, potentially have a plan for them to be used elsewhere in the future, so maybe keep a record of them for now ;)

Ah, that's interesting! I figured they'd unlock something like that! Thanks!

Yeah, the Bonus section of the site was never opened! :p

First reviews coming in ->

First up from NintendoLife - http://www.nintendolife.com/reviews/3ds-eshop/go_go_kokopolo_3d

"The 3DS eShop has a new hit in Go! Go! Kokopolo 3D. With addictive gameplay, pleasing aesthetics and plenty of unlockable content, you'll find a lot to love in what is clearly a labour of love from Tanukii Studios. Hopefully, this imaginative and charming sequel will find the audience and success it clearly deserves."

Excellent 9/10

I'm really pleased with this :)

never heard of this, but it looks gorgeous

the needy collector in me already wants a physical release with both games, how can something so nice be lost forever when the eshop goes down

Any news on the European release date? I have the eShop credit ready.

Currently it's scheduled in for 23rd March ... but it looks like BYE BYE BOX BOY is released the same day on 3DS eShop, so I got spooked as I suspect that'll eat into any potential exposure Kokopolo might have gotten .... I've suggested it be moved till 30th March to avoid that...

I'll let you know if I get it confirmed, (and if I made the right decision...)

While I'd like to play it as soon as possible, I think it's best for the game to delay it by one week. BYE-BYE! BOXBOY is quite big compared to typical eShop weeks.

Can you solve the NeoGaf / Kokopolo April Fools riddle (part A)?

USA = B0
USA = B0

EUR = B0

(Good luck ;) !)

Apologies for the late reply. You're completely right. Regardless though, I'm still very interested in the game. The DSi version looked great and this might be better.

Has anyone else noticed the bug where the recipe cards keep on disappearing? Progress gets deleted if you collect one in story mode and then one in time attack mode (and vice versa).

Edit: Apparently everything I collect a card in a different campaign. Happened just again.

Others have the same issue:

Are you enjoying the game?

Is it wrong that I want to buy this game for the art alone? :D This is exactly the type of artstyle I've been missing and didn't see too much in recent years, clean, detailed, japanese-inspired 2D art that's just a joy to look at. I'll definitely grab this once it hits EU :)

Beat all the levels, it was pretty enjoyable. Could get my bearings much easier than in the original game. The bosses in this were pretty creative aswell.

Here's some tips to not get stuck:
- Don't charge attack the raven enemies from the front, if you do it at the same time it spots you, it freezes you in place forever, forcing you to retry.
- If a boss is broken, turn 3D off and retry without it.
- Picking up a heart while having 1 heart left will cause the HUD to glitch up, but it's more bearable with 3D off.

Just beat the story mode (9 hours!). I really liked the game, and I'll continue playing. Due to some bug, all my recipe cards are gone and I want to get them back after the patch. And while I'm normally not a fan of time trials, here I am.

The gameplay is great, so is the art. Even the bosses were fun.

However, there are some issues:
- performance in 3D mode is often pretty bad, keep it turned off
- even with 3D turned off, performance can be bad when there are many enemies on screen
- there are a few bugs (recipe cards not saving, boss C not beatable due to bombs not spawning when 3D is turned on, in the credits mini game you can touch enemies infinitely to get a highscore)
- enemies requiring microphone shouts are rather annoying (thankfully they only appear in four levels or so)

Apart from recipe cards disappearing (which will soon be patched), those aren't big issues though.

It's out already.

Thanks for the tip. I was wondering why boss C in time trial mode didn't spawn any bombs. This did indeed solve it.

I think I'm completely done, unless a missed some hidden/secret bonus. I just beat all times in time trial mode (some were tricky, others not so much). I thought I also collected all of the space treasures, but apparently I haven't. At least the fourth video did not unlock. I'll check that once I (re)collect all of the recipe cards after the patch.

Great game, after 23 hours it's enough. Quite a long game, especially at that price. Ranks on the 10th place of my most played 3DS games.

Apparently the game didn't save my final treasure. Saw the fourth video now, it's a small bonus I guess. Waiting for the patch now to reunlock the final two recipe cards, the final treasure, and the final video. Have a save file with 38/40 cards now. Starting any level deletes all cards again, so there's nothing I can do right now.

Hey, Yep it looks like the recipe card glitch (and the one mentioned above) are just due to some information being overwritten at the incorrect time, and certain things not saving correctly. We've mostly created a patch, and will submit it to Nintendo this week, so hopefully it'll be fixed asap. (as well as the 3D bomb spawning Boss C glitch)
Hopefully it hasn't detracted too much from your enjoyment of the game, but you should be able to unlock everything pretty soon!

Also the
300 space bugs on the press start screen bonus
doesn't save properly yet, but that'll be fixed too. :)

The patch is up and my save is complete :)

Edit: Oh, it still won't save the final recipe card. At least it doesn't delete all other cards anymore.

Edit 2: I did the final boss fight again, now everything is saved :)

Hang on a sec, Keith's username at one point was SpaceCat (like when he interviewed Crash Mania on Twinsanity's development), you don't think... heh. :p

Game's fun, but the art looks a bit rough, even in 3D.

Still, the gameplay is solid and arcadey. I look forward to playing more of it.

You haven't seen the ending of the game yet, have you?

I don't see anything wrong with art. It might be down to the low resolution of the 3DS screens.
