GOAT Itagaki joins Twitter

Dude remains one of the best examples of what happens when keeping it real goes wrong.

He jumped ship from Koei Tecmo right before they got a flood of requests to makes games on other properties. He could have been working on Zelda, Fire Emblem, Dragon Quest, Fist of the North Star…. but nah he got to make Devil’s Third lol.

The Japanese start-up scene hasn't exactly turned out as well as it could have. Platinum is floundering. Tango hasn't exactly turned into a Capcom rival. And Valhalla Games was truly done dirty and hung out to dry by literally everyone. MS could have easily floated their studio some funding after he backed the Xbox so strongly for 2 gens. Just sad what happened.

The guy's still literally one of the greatest of all time though, and Devil's Third is actually really fun despite having to be transferred to a different engine with almost no funding. I'll always play whatever he puts out.

Kojima seems to be doing well, but he also knows to keep his mouth shut and brown nose the right people. That’s something I would never expect from the Itagaki, Mikami, and definitely not Kamiya.

It will be interesting to see how the Chinese investments turn out with Nagoshi Studios and others considering they seem to be more hands off as long as the content isn’t gonna be offensive to the region.
