God of War: Ragnarök reportedly delayed to 2023

PlayStation could have had 50 AAA exclusives. They wouldn't have sold any more or fewer PS5s.

Now, if both consoles had unlimited supply, then we would know how Sony having several first-party exclusives in 2022 and Xbox having zero (at least so far this year or currently announced) would have effected console sales. Sadly, that's not the world we live in at the moment, with the chip shortages.
Yes, totally understood and agreed they can't sell more than what's available (i.e. chip shortage). That said having a God of War for holiday could keep some from buying into a competitor eco system if they feel it's better to try and hold out for a PS5.

Didn't management buy the company that managed to fuck it all up?
They bought an entire publisher that is more than just BGS/Starfield, and it's a huge exaggeration to say a delay is them "fucking it all up". Fucking it all up would be rushing Starfield to release and having it be the next CP2077. Delays have happened to all the major platform holders, Starfield's is just made a bigger deal out of because it was expected to be the big holiday Microsoft game this year. God of War Ragnarok and Starfield have had the same amount of official delays as each other, but only the latter is treated as if the sky is falling.

I really believe that if it is delayed until 2023, this is Sony deciding their ideal release window. If they say its because it's not ready, I call bullshit. We would of known about it by now.

I'm fairly sure, these days game dev studios have pre-planned "Announcement date to build hype" as well as a "Announce delay to let people know we're serious about the polish" but release the game relatively unpolished either way.

I'm not talking about GoW specifically here but instead game announcements in general. The "announce date for the sake of gaining hype" marketing strategy is surely starting to get annoying but I'd be fool to think it doesn't work in their favor.

That's because on one hand sony already released a few games and on the other nothing is announced yet for the whole year.
On one hand the delay until 2023 is official on the other it is rumors that have been "debunked"(maybe not maybe they were debunked we'll see)
On one hand the release date was confirmed multiple times in video, on the other it wasn't...

I can go on about the differences between these 2 but people aren't don't say bad management only because Starfield has been delayed but mostly because as of now it seems that there is nothing exclusive to Xbox coming in 2022....So is the delay of Starfield due to Xbox?Probably not but having no games as of now is.
Maybe they will release a banger that will be announced in a few days, who knows but so far it is nothing and I wonder how many cards they kept in their sleeve(beside probably Forza) considering they've been showing games that are mostly far away until now.

That makes no sense, and the guy you’re replying to is correct. Why would fewer other exclusive releases for 2022 mean the delay of Starfield is due to ‘bad management’?

And God of War was announced as a 2021 game. I believe that’s the delay he’s referring to.

A whole lot of AAA games have received delays in the past few years. Most from the impact of COVID, and I’d wager a few have been because the publishers have seen the Cyberpunk disaster and realized delays are better than releasing a game with deep technical issues.

As I’ve said earlier, I don’t believe Ragnarok is getting delayed out of 2022. Way too much evidence points to a September/Q4 2022 release.

So you totally sidestepped my points or misunderstood them I didn't not say fewer I said none and gambling on the release of a game from a freshly bought studio/publisher is like every gamble bad management.Simply because guess what delays happens.
And yes Ragnarok was a 2021 game and we got the explaination as to why it got delayed...The most important role in the game got injured and sustained several surgeries....

Sony released a lot of games each year so when one is delayed the impact is less important because you have other exclusives that's not hard to understand is it ?

I mean look at this year we've had GT7, Horizon and if it still stand God of war(if we believe the multiple devs) and what has or will release MS this year beside speculation? So far nothing, sre I keep the door open for what will probably a close to the end of the year Forza release but even you gotta admit that is a weak year.

Playstation pushing out God of War just to hit a March date would be some serious esoteric and superstitious shit. Do Playstation CEOs and game directors keep human skulls on the office table as well?

The last GoW was released in April. 🤷‍♂️

Pretty sure every GoW has come out in March-April? There might be one or two that didn't, but that's Kratos' usual spot.

I was a lot more hopeful for an April release this time last year than I am now...

That would suck if Sony let this slip back so that Last of Us could be the big deal of the year (I'm sure PS gamers have their pennies saved up for both from how long they've been waiting..), but businessmen run their business.

(*Finally looked it up; it's every GoW game except the 2nd PSP game, which came out in Nov. Oh, and Betrayal the phone game came out in June)

That may be true for some publishers, but that doesn't describe Sony first-party or Nintendo first-party games very well.

God of war was already delayed. It was announced to come out last year.

Delay it to 2024 for all I care, as long as they are spending the time improving it.

honestly tho if it is really delayed to 2023, I hope Santa Monica cancels cross-gen and push performance as much as possible

Imagine all the work they'd need to do to get rid of all the "help me climb on this ledge", "squeeze through these rocks", "push open these giant doors" loading screens that would be completely unnecessary on PS5.

Elden Ring was announced in 2019 and released in 2022. I don’t belive those are the same year.

God of War Ragnarok was revealed late 2020 and will likely release in 2022. But, if it gets delayed to 2023, I don't think that's 7 years. I'd have to get my calculator.
Was it announced in 2020?.. ok my bad. It feels like 7 years to me for some reason.

Maybe it's because I have been looking forward to it.

Not entirely surprising, everyone wants to dodge the inevitable Elden Ring GOTY but still a bummer, was hoping for this year. We'll see if the rumor sticks.
lol, so you think someone at sony says: oh, lets delay a whole game because pap doritos wont give us a shitty price? what a joke of a post unless im missing the /s somewhere

I finally clicked the original delay story and they did an update.

[Update June 10]

On this occasion, in the absence of official confirmation, everything indicates that we were wrong and we publicly admit it.

Yeah. To be honest, with the TLOU remake coming late september GoW isn’t needed at all this year, unless 2023 is already packed they could just as well use GoW to fill out Q1 instead. TLOUp1 looked awesome, people are oddly concerned there, they aren’t paying attention to the changes, it’s essentially what we got with Demon’s Souls, even more actually since they’re changing the AI and combat system too.

Yeah was thinking about TLOU too. GoW won't come in September, I would be legit surprised if it still did. GoW could very well be Q1 2023 now but November 2022 or something is still possible.

Because you said GOW wasn’t officially delayed until 2023. That’s factually incorrect. Is it console warring to correct factual errors?
So god of war has officialy been delayed until 2023? Is that new info or are you just basing your facts on feelings?
Let me make it more clear has sony said God of war Ragnarok will come out in 2023?
If the answer is no then I am factually corect as of now Gow has not been delayed to 2023 how is it so hard for some of you to understand that is beyond me...You take a shitty rumor that has been denied even in the original article but the multiple other rumors and devs saying it is indeed 2022 are somehow wrong? Please explain, unless you misunderstood but there is no official statement saying GOW will release in 2023, that is a fact.

The game was delayed from 2021 to 2022, not 2023.
Correct. Read the post(s) I was responding too. He was saying it hasn’t been delayed into 2023 yet. I was saying it is already delayed.

Edited for clarity.

Do you just not read posts or just reply halfway through reading a sentence ?
I am (and maybe that's a subtlety you missed) implicitely talking about that rumor of the 2023 delay, because, and that may be a shock to you, we are in the thread talking about a 2023 delay....
Nowhere have I said that god of war has never been delayed and I have no idea how someone can even think that reading my post...
But I'll keep in mind that, in the future, I'll have to remind eveey few sentences what thread we are in and what's the topic of the discussion.
By the way we are in the rumor ragnarok 2023 delay thread talking about rumor of ragnarok suposedly 2023 delay.... I hope that cleared some confusion for you.

Edit:Maybe you thought I needed to precise that by rumor I meant 2023 but think about it the 2021 has been confirmed as delayed, a good hint to understand it, is that we are in 2022 and the game hasn't released.... Since it apparently needed explanations. Unless you were just happy to post a sony too classic ?
