GoNintendo: "Getting the switch at gamestop might be a bit of a difficult endeavor"

Jesus Christ NOA, sort your shit out.

When listening to things like the NVC podcast and posts here, it's always complaining about availability, pre-order capability etc. and it's just shocking.

I have not had one issue here in the UK. Got the amiibo I wanted. Got the NES Classic Mini. Got everything I needed with no issues.

Europe isn't any different as some folk struggled to get the amiibo they wanted during the their early releases.

I know that I missed out on getting Lucina and the Splatoon amiibos.

Though with the event being at 04:00 in the morning and I am not staying or waking up early to watch it I might end up missing pre-order for the Switch, should I decided to buy it on launch.

I'll be taking my chances. Waited this long so a few more weeks or months isn't going to kill me. Plus based on Nintendo's track record with shipments I'm not doing this dance with them again.

NES classic Mini's are still unavailable here though.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
If Nintendo underships this thing, Microsoft and Sony should both drop the prices of their base level consoles to $200 for the Switch's launch month

You could get those systems for cheap during the Holidays...really doubt that people that want a Switch during its launch month will just go for another system because they can get it Day 1.

Launch buyers are likely hardcore Nintendo portable/console fans and people that wanna play Zelda asap.

Nintendo's strategy has been artificial shortage since Amiibo. And it drives up demand like crazy. Sell outs get media coverage. Disappointed kids get parents crawling over each other to buy Nintendo products

Then they're morons because the "artificial shortages" last far too long to actually make it worth it. They miss the boat on peak sales on Amiibo's and NES Classic's because they're scarce for so long and instead just turn people off entirely or to ebay sellers.

Hmm. Hopefully Amazon got me.

Yeah, I'm hoping for Amazon and Best Buy to get me through. Really hoping this isn't as bad as the other shortages have been. I largely avoided dealing with those, but this is another story.

Hmm, maybe I'll put in a preorder online with Amazon Thursday night when they are first available. I'll try calling up GS by me Friday morning and seeing about putting in a preorder. There are technically two right next to each other right where I live. One in a mall and one just across the street outside. There's a few others only a few minutes further away. Best Buys are a bit farther though. I think the closest is like 20-25 minutes.

There's also a Toy's R Us like 4 minutes from my house as well. Haven't bought a game from them in like over 10 years. Never bought a console or anything there.

saw this coming

they're only shipping 2 million units for launch worldwide

it's going to be an amiibo/nes classic situation yet again

I hope it isn't too bad in the UK in terms of pre-orders. My local Tesco is mere minutes away and is 24 hours so I should be able to go there at 9am or so on the 13th and get a preorder in. I'll put an Amazon UK preorder in as well just in case that fucks up. Personally if you're going to GAME, Gamestop or your local equivalent you're going to have a harder time, it's always best to go somewhere that isn't focused on games.
In the UK my advice is always to avoid Game like the plague. The shops will be the most expensive combined with accidentally selling your item before you can pick it up, and the website the most likely to either charge you multiple times upon despatch or cancelling your pre-order because of a problem with their system for charging your card. I don't know which is worse, the website or the shops, both are just awful for sellers claiming to be the leading specialist retailer here.

I was planning on being outside of my GameStop at 10 in Friday to preorder.

Same. I actually have off the day, not because of the Switch, so I'm going to take advantage of it and be at the store before it opens. I assume that's when preorders are likely going to start, at least with GameStop.

Still going to be refreshing Amazon that Thursday night and Friday too.

Well the plan is to go to eb games the morning after the presentation since they usually put Sku in the system when prices are announced.

So how does Best Buy handle preorders? Just go to customer service and ask to preorder it? Do it online?

I'm going to try everywhere, Amazon, BB, GS.

Crossing fingers that Amazon and Nintendo sort their shit out and pre-orders are ready on Friday itself.

Damn this could suck for me. I won't be able to place a pre order until Saturday, and I want to use GameStop so I can sell me wii-u and put that towards a switch preorder.

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
Launch day being sold out isn't as big of a deal to me as how fast the turn around is for more stock.

I have less of an issue of launch day being sold out, and more of an issue of a slow drip of stock hitting the retail chain post launch.

To be fair, that was their initial estimate and they've openly said they can up that figure. I'm thinking that this might be "wave 1" of pre-orders and they're ready and willing to allocate more units.

Listening to the video: sounds like their source is one gamestop employee. Their source told them their store is only getting 20 preorders and they are using that as a basis to say that all gamestops are getting limited allotments.
I'm not ready to believe this based off of that. Better to err on the side of caution though

Yep, GAME is really the last place you want to go. Want it delivered? Amazon, ShopTo, etc. Want to pick it up? Tesco, Asda, etc. I think if you aren't looking to get it from GAME or Gamestop and are timely you should be fine.

I am starting to believe a friend of mine who says you should not do this, as the Wii U may be a collectors item and you could get more for it later.

Preorders schmeeorders, I'm just going to walk into Gamestop the day of release and get one like a boss.

"Hi! Welcome to Gamestop! What are you looking to pick up?"

"A Nintendo Switch? Ok, well did you pre-order?"

"You didn't pre-order.............................."

"......................get the fuck out of my store."

"Hey guys, how do we make the Switch look really really awesome"

Not too surprising. EB Games/Gamestop inventory has always being dodgy when it comes to popular Nintendo anything.

How is this a surprise to anyone? Did people forget about the NES mini, amiibo, Wii, etc

If Nintendo doesn't want to meet demand then they won't get my money plain and simple. I'm not running around to different stores all over the city or paying a mark up from some opportunistic butthole just to buy your system. When I can walk into my nearest store and pick one up with no hassle you will get my business.

Before people start panicking, it's worth bearing in mind that the Switch is going to be
in constant production as their main hardware product line for the next few years. Just because you can't find one on day one doesn't mean you won't be able to find one a few weeks later. It's not like limited items (amiibo, special editions etc) that are reliant on arbitrary one-time restocks.

Stoking a frenzy over something months in advance only benefits scalpers who will then exploit it by buying up everything and then selling at a large markup on eBay.

Hope this sucker goes up for preorder on Amazon so I can nab one, because I'd rather not leave my house and give money to any of these other retailers lol.

Why does everyone who quotes that, forget the part about 'by the end of the Fiscal Year'. Which is just a week or two after launch. And they also forget Kimishima announcing that they are able to ship more than 2 Million if needed. Stop fearmongering.

It isn't fearmongering when Switch could clearly sell out 3m in it's first 4 weeks, and if they only have 2m ready for launch, they very well could have a production problem. You're in a thread saying "it's going to be hard to get" and I'm supporting that info with direct statements from Nintendo, yet it's just fearmongering? come on.
