GI: Have you thought about how to make Xbox Achievements interesting with BIA, instead of just something tacked on?

Pitchford: I think the achievement system is really interesting. I have a lot of good theories about the psychology that is behind them and how to use them effectively. We’re still a ways from implementing the achievements in the 360 version, but I’ll go ahead and share some of my theories.

There are a few classes of things that should be achievements. One class is what I call a “badge” – this is an award or honor for some specific experience or behavior that is relevant enough where it should be displayed for others to see. Another class is what I call a “carrot” – this is used to motivate someone to try to do something. Badges are given because of something special that has already been accomplished that deserves some bragging right and carrots are dangled out there to encourage you to accomplish something.

Another developer whom I respect added to my theory with the concept of “entitlement”. Entitlements are granted simply for completing portions of the game. I suggested that carrots should be numerable and should start frequent and become less frequent as the game progressed. Carrots should account for a huge amount of the total achievements that can be earned. Meanwhile, badges are more rare. Perhaps only 20% of the total achievements are badges. And, lastly, entitlements should be something that reward just for experience. At least 50% of the total achievements should be earned on a complete play through of the game. Most of that should be because of entitlements.

Anyway, the fun bit is linking up that theory with all of the different metrics and options and accomplishments that exist in a game as complex as Brothers in Arms Hell’s Highway. It should be as fun to hook up as it will be to unlock them all!

GI: How has your experience been with working with the PlayStation 3 versus the Xbox 360? Will there be any noticeable difference between the two games?

Pitchford: Both platforms are awesome. There are some differences between these systems that are going to be interesting to see how they affect customers purchase decisions. From a graphics point of view, I would expect Brothers in Arms Hell’s Highway to remain very comparable between the different platforms. There will be some specific implementation differences, but these will largely cater to the specific strengths of any given platform. So, if you made a platform decision because of the strengths of the platform you have bought, you’re likely going to like that version of Brothers in Arms the best anyway…

Entitlements, isn't that what Sony is calling for achievements?

Also, this is interesting:

Strengths of each platform. Yet the games will be comparable. MS is online. Sony is..... (maybe we find out at e3?)????? What differences anyway, I thought they were both supposed to be nearly the same?

Seemed appropriate.

If the Ps3 version has some "extra content" and my 360 version doesn't have something that means as much and isn't on the Ps3 version, i ain't buying this shit.

Thats whats called "Being ripped the Fkd off".

Here's a hint. You are allowed to own more than one console.

I heard PSM said something about there was a system where you look at your gear and see how many grenades you have and how much ammo you have left. Dunno how true it is considering its PSM:lol but maybe thats what the PS3 version will have, seems logical.

Obviously he is referring to X360's superior controller. ;)

Considering they just said that in that interview, I'd have to guess they were lieing

This is freaking hilarious. A developer gives a non-commital answer to the which-is-better question so as not to tick off 360 or PS3 fans and Neo-GAF starts to run wild with rampant speculation.

This is probably true. :/ Could be worse, we could spend hundreds of posts speculating on IZZA. ;)

The difference lies in the PS3s superior FPS controller which will finally be unveiled on Monday.*

*BLIEVE

I'm poor but affording 2 or even all 3 console isn't hard if you really want to... well maybe if you're poor as in homeless.

If you put away ~ $20 ever week starting now up untill PS3 is released you'll have the money right there.

Yeah like buying another car, but then i can only afford gas for one!!!

I will buy the Ps3 at a later date. I don't wanna miss on them great games, i will just be late to the party. I'm that cool.

Stop complaining then and be happy with what you have. ;)

If a game is releasing on both consoles, at the sametime, same price, and one of the versions, doesn't matter wich, has more content worth your $ than the other, then the one who's wrong here is the Developer, not me and the console i have.

Sorry.

Where do they mention features in the part about the versions being different? They mention that the games will be different based on each platforms strenghts.

Well...how the fck do you choose a console's strenght over the other when you go into a store and buy the damm console?

What in the back it says "This console gives you Free AA" and the other says "This console gives you exclusive Physics"?

"So, if you made a platform decision because of the strengths of the platform you have bought, you’re likely going to like that version of Brothers in Arms the best anyway…"

So what are you telling me? He is mixing? Yeah i can totally see one version having some sort of physics the other doesn't. Gimme a break, i could see them putting like extra videos and such because of Blu Ray, since it holds more data, but hell wtf am i arguing we will see.
