Google+ getting a major redesign

This is a lot better than the old Google+, although I used the old Google+ for maybe 30 minutes.

I didn't know Collections were something that Google did. These are pretty cool. I can subscribe to Collections for subjects that I frequently search for on Google. Team Fortress 2, Writing, Pixel Art... some of my favourite things, all suggested to me by Google.

I think Google's doing a great job providing content to its users. Google is the search engine. It knows what people want, it just has to figure out how to give it to them. This new Google+ looks like a good way to do that.

Maybe I'm just waxing their balls, but I'll take anything over Facebook.

Different as in more "tech savvy" and not a pile of moms and racist uncles...

If you don't like it fine, but every G+ is full of people shitting on it, it's not for you then don't use it, simple really.

It's not that I don't like it, I'd welcome everyone I know to start using it over Facebook but then I don't know a lot of mums and racist uncles.

Your FB comments are as bad as it the posters slamming G+. On FB I have amazing friends. G+ is struggling.

Great service that few care about and that's too bad.

I dont use it to post but do keep up with some Android news or to see discussions. Sometimes facebook can get noisy with all its "You will never guess what happened next" shit.

I legit thought this was Google Now. I totally forgot + was a thing.

It looks so nice though. I also remember that old Myspace beta thing looking really nice.

Seriously I swear I remember this happening. Or were they just announcing that they were decoupling it from Youtube etc?

I recall that they joined youtube and then later Google Photos to G+, then a little over a year afterwards both were disconnected from it. I think many, including myself, took it as a sign Google was abandoning the service.

wait what, Polymer? oh no, it's insanely slow and too huge.

how the fuck anyone can use Polymer, it's like re-doing your browser capabilities by wrapping everything in shadow elements.

I love Google+

I feel like I like it more because it puts what I like first rather than comments of everyone's lives front in center like Facebook does.....kind of just like Twitter. Social networks are mostly commenting on someone's personal comments rather than sharing interest with those you never met. Google+ is cute. Yall should try it lol

Beautiful design, but I'm still not going to use it. While G+ has definitely not been successful, at least assuming the stated goals were true, it has spawned some awesome products... Notably, Google Photos is the best photo backup, sharing, and storage system on the planet. Other services like Gmail, Inbox, Hangouts, Calendar, Contacts, and almost every other main consumer product from Google benefited by some of the research and work that went into developing Google+.

I generally log into Google+ for some very niche communities, and that's it. Android developers, Angular, WordPress, and a handful of others. They're more "community like" than, say, StackOverflow, and you can still get decent conversation out of it.

Unfriend or mute those people. FB itself isn't the cause, but I notice people blame the service for bad friends.

Facebook is, in fact, a major part of the problem. The algorithm that decides what you will see is heavily skewed towards shit posting. It far skews to the things that are irrelevant to an actual group of friends or even two individual friends, and favors memes, clickbait, overly dramatic and misleading shares, and other things that can reach a wide audience but are too generalized for two people to actually care about. This is why we have that thread "horrible right wing things your family posts on facebook," because Facebook's algorithm for what items appear in your feed and what items are hidden (or appear later) skews towards the reactionary, provocative, offensive, and so on.

That said, Facebook is still the best way to actually have an event, let people know about it, and have people show up.

My biggest complaint with Facebook over the years has been how far the timeline has moved away from being a timeline and more to a curated list of stories. It's unpredictable when you will get a story from a friend that matters and is relevant to you, even while friend's are making those posts. It also skews towards people who may not actually really be friends with you, and away from people who are actual, real life friends. I'm usually amazed when I go to a friend's profile, one of my best friends in real life who I talk to several times a week, and their feed is filled with things that was never revealed to me in my feed because we don't communicate on Facebook that much. Yet, the random person who I went to High School with who I occasionally like something on their wall regularly has stories appear for me because those 'likes' are an interaction. Facebook has crafted a social network based off of friendships but the algorithm has out-friended itself.

Loved Google+ and thinks it's interesting how quickly the userbase repurpose the service to be a instagram/blog hybrid rather than a facebook competitor. With the redesign, it looks like they are finally fixing the horrible use of space, especially on desktop.

G+ is wonderful for buying UV codes. The prices are unbeatable, sometimes as cheap as $.10-.25 per D2D movie + $1 processing fee each from Vudu.
good guy maxcriden! I didn't know about this. Looks like I'll be filling up my DMA account sooner than expected :)

I thought that died off a long time ago.

I have it hooked to my buffer app, so when I share the Facebook, Tumb lr, Twitter, and Pinterest, it gets hit too

Looks better than Facebook, that's for sure.

I like Material Design.

I reslly like it a lot. Bit of a pain to get to, but very nice design.

If my friends used Google+, I'd use it. It's just so unnecessary for me though. I can't think of any useful stuff for it. I like Google Hangouts though.

Still a lot of hassle to use because it insists on using First name and Last name and applied to everything Google across the board.

THAT is amazingly beautiful! Can't wait for the full roll out! Great job to anyone who made this happen!

I will start using it again when it's made available to everyone. A few of my friends and co-workers use it so it's not a isolation chamber for me.

No-one I know IRL uses it.

Looks like Pinterest. How many times has this garbage attempted to pivot now? Give up Google, christ.

Google will never drop Plus. It's far too ingrained. Getting your site crawled fast is done by posting your updated pages on Google Plus timelines. It's in Youtube. It's connected to Docs, I think.

It just didn't have a strong start, and therefore missed the train. It'll never be at the top of the list like Facebook and Twitter are. And no matter what redesigns it goes through, not much will change.

But at least they are updating it so that the few who do use Google Plus can enjoy it better instead of letting it look like shit.

Considering the popularity of G+, it would be nice to see some comparison with the old design. I don't think I remember how it looked.

I really wish Google would figure out a way to get people to jump ship from Facebook. Facebook is so painful to browse nowadays...

I have a group of online friends from a popular web forum that created our own community the day G+ was announced and it's still going strong. Pretty cool place to post political news, etc, without the typical Facebook outrages.

We also post funny pictures of bad Skyrim sex mods.

Redesign looks better. Now they just need to focus more on groups and less on you interacting with your friendslist ala FB.

Looks great. Google+ is a great service and I wish more people used it, but I've mostly given up actively trying to get my FB friends to use it.

That's what they are doing. The redesign is focused on Collections and Communities.

Less collections more communities.

Pintress already does collections. Twitter does talking to the masses. Facebook does talking to your friends list. Google+ needs to be interacting with your community group.

Okay, you can't just say this and leave. Where do we go?

Lol, the exact reason i use it!

I'm at work so I don't have the link on me, but if you search G+ communities for UV codes for sales you should find them pretty easily. I'm in a members-only one too. I'll PM you guys to see if you want invites.

I'd like an invite too! I've browsed a couple communities but I'm curious to see the one you're in. ;D
