Holy shit, that was surprisingly unsettling.

Was expecting to not give a fuck about it, but I loved the song and the video. The end creeped me out, even though I was expecting it.

It kinda reminded me of Rockit, a song which eventually became my favourite Gorillaz song

Dope song, dope fucking video.

And today, the population of GAF reached out at once and asked "but where are my drops? Where are my catchy hooks?"

Just the tweet that went out with the song's release. Which, as far as I can tell, is the only official talk about it.
Yeah, I don't think that's referencing the album, just a general cry for speaking out and being creative.

Can't say that I liked it. Even listened twice, and it just doesn't gel with me. Not much of a song there.

seems more like a poem and speech with a beat.....wasn't really feeling it. Might need my headphones to give this a go and really dig into it.

But first listen through I was like.....what in the heck am I listening to? This is coming from someone who loved the shit out of Stylo and Doncamatic

It's alright. Vocals not really my cup of tea. Could be a decent album closer or B-Side. Huge Damon Albarn fan but I'll readily admit his most experimental tendencies are largely hit or miss. The video is more compelling than the song.

That noodle mix that they shared a few weeks ago was a lot more listenable. I listen to plenty of experimental music. Just saying that you don't like the song doesn't mean you don't appreciate the lyrics or message behind the song.

can't get over how beautiful this track is - that first hook, with the choir, then Damon's bit leading into the beat switch... heavenly.

2:06 is my favourite visual, especially with the eye on his head and when the guy in the background starts to open his mouth.

This felt more like Benjamin Clementine (feat. Gorillaz) and it didn't do much at all for me. Didn't really enjoy his singing at all, so I doubt listening to it more will do anything for me.

WAT.

I really enjoyed the WTF-ery of that but I don't see myself itching to hear the song again whatsoever. :/

Comparatively, I remember instantly loving Stylo.

This is one of those songs that I'll like more on subsequent listens, which describes... most of Gorillaz for me. Loved Benjamin Clementine's voice right off the bat though, gonna go check out more of his stuff.

Wasn't digging the song, but the video was cool. For some reason Benjamin reminds me of a real life Doctor Facilier.

Congrats, you just discovered how lyrics to a song work

*shrug* I just get the impression that these people want a song with a beat. I get that and like those songs but I also like their out there stuff like Cloud of Unknowing or Fire Coming Out of a Monkey's Head. I can only imagine the reactions to those albums if they premiered with those songs.

please don't compare the masterpiece that is Fire Coming out of a monkey's head to this garbage

even as a social critic fire coming out of a monkey's head is miles ahead of this (both in the lyrics and in how it's presented)

And today, the population of GAF reached out at once and asked "but where are my drops? Where are my catchy hooks?"

and today, we see how much people on GAF think they are so smart when they really aren't

That Albarn and Hewlett decided that their first new song in years would not be a huge pop hit like Feel Good Inc. but a very artistic commentary on a Trump Presidency that is more poem than song is so fucking Gorillaz, I can't even deal with it.

But I love it so, so much. Kinda reminded me of a mix between Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head, Don't Get Lost in Heaven and something entirely new.

Kinda bums me out, tbqh, because I love both those tracks, and this doesn't live up to that, but I'm struggling to articulate why.

Yeah it's fine if you enjoy the song but acting high and mighty like you're getting it and the rest don't is obnoxious

Very thorough "meh" from me. It's really not a Gorillaz song from how little they sing. Kinda annoying, but whatever. Hopefully the album is better.

Man, I haven't seen people this divisive since RAM

I've heard it a few times and like it more each time
hope it gets a digital release if not on the album

Leave your expectations at the door, not everything needs to be a dance single to be good music.

You keep trying so hard with this, "not everything is pop dance music, duuuuudes" shit. Like everyone is just a moron who can't understand it, it's not that they just don't enjoy the song.
