Not sure how I feel about this IoM prospect. Seems like a stupendous amount of work for a time trial only track. How many different additional racing circuits could be built with the same amount of time and resources?

The Nordschleife is what 13 or so miles long? and is also notable for people trying to get sub-7 minute time trials on it, even though it does have closed circuit racing done on it.

Just imagine that but roughly 3 times the length. If they can reuse what laser scanned tracks they have and just completely rexture them with modern expectations. Then I don't really see having the IoM track would take away from other tracks that are likely to be new as well.

Nurburgring is in a forest though while the IoM track goes through a lot of areas with houses. To make a decent representation of this track they have to model a lot of assets which take a lot of time. I saw how long it took to model the assets for pCARS Le Mans track, and this one is way longer.

True, but once they have the data, they should always have it.

Having Isle of Man is an investment, not something only for GT7.

I'm a bigger 'racing track' person myself, but like the Nordschleife, some of these tracks are still absolutely fantastic to have. I'd complain if I thought GT lacked in regular racing tracks, but I think its ok for them to branch out a bit more with this.

Gathering the data is not the problem. It's the monumental amount of resources required to accurately craft the assets. For every mile of this time trial track these one less mile of a proper racing circuit that could be worked on.

PD simply don't commit enough resources to follow through with their promises. And once again it looks like they've bitten off far more then they can chew. I'm sure IoM will look great, but it will be at the expense of many other aspects of the game.

My point is that this is an investment in the long-term. You're thinking short-term only. Its good to make these investments once in a while. Having this track not only in the next GT, but also GT's beyond that will be a massive selling point and great for the fans.

Again, if GT was lacking in regular race tracks, I could see the merit in complaining. But that's not the case.

Haha wow. If there was one "party trick" left that could even begin to rekindle my interest in GT or GT7 it would be the Isle of Man TT course. That would be fucking nuts.

Still waiting for that Pikes Peak course.

so Im coming to terms with the game now, since I basically use it for time trials and mute the audio, whilst I listen a podcast in the background.
I appreciate the time of day and weather options more than I ever did, same with the variety of tracks. I want to punch the people that dismiss this kind of stuff like it's unimportant, it makes the driving so much more interesting.
In the replays, the car models and lighting look PS4 quality, the only thing undercutting the photorealism is the flat geometry of the environment.
I imagine that will be dealt with in GT7.

Has anyone any experience with the Wheel Stand Pro?

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger, but I just can't see how they're stable with some enthusiastic steering.

Wow. The idea of the full IoM TT circuit recreated in PS4 quality is literally mindblowing!

That was be a phenomenal achievement if they did it.

Sounds like an anger problem.

Anyways, there are some of us who are more concerned with the competitive aspects or find typical dry, daylight racing perfectly interesting on its own. Wet weather in GT barely reduces grip so feels more like a visual difference and nighttime driving is also largely just a visual thing. So again, some of us are more interesting the racing/competitive aspects.

I do imagine that some visual variety is important to the more casual players though(especially one who mutes the audio....), sure. Nothing against you, just reminding you that not everybody plays these games for the same reason.

Why would anyone invest in GT as a racing sim at this point? The AI is bad, the engine notes are awful and the game design is just bad in general. Ive always invested in it as a driving simulator, and it's exceedingly competent at that. If they would simply fix the engine sounds, GT7 could end up being one of the best driving games ever, Polyphony's driving physics feel awesome.

I mute the audio because I refuse to listen to the sounds of the engine. I wont listen to 700+ bhp engine sounding like a vacuum cleaner. If that makes me a "casual" so be it.

Second, racing in the dark at Le Mans or the Ring is different experience in a faster car, it's not just a visual difference.
The claim that "grip is barely reduced in wet weather" is a categorical lie and makes me question if youve even played the game for any lengthy duration of time.
Even if you find the heavier wet weather tires too grippy, you can switch to intermediates and increase the volume of surface water for more of a challenge.
Like seriously, I doubt youre even playing this game. I just spent an hour messing around with the Lotus 97T in full wet conditions and while I doubt the grips levels conform 100% to reality, Im loving the challenge of having to feather the throttle and experiencing massive wheelspin as the turbo kicks in. Wet weather driving absolutely feels different.

But I do imagine that doesnt matter to someone who wants to stealth troll for some other racing sim.

If you think GT's physics feel awesome, Assetto Corsa will make you shit your pants.

Well damn, Kaz crashed pretty hard on qualy @ 24H Nurburgring race, only to bounce back and finish 14 place overall out of 165 car grid.

Legend.

So any sound engineers, recording engineers out there that are like “Hey let ME improve the sounds of Gran Turismo!”, we’re hiring. It should be pretty fun working to unravel the mysteries of sound from a technical point of view, and travel all over the world recording sounds in the process.

From the Editorial Department: We are currently recruiting Sound Engineers and Recording Engineers. Please email recruit_sound@polyphony.co.jp. The choice of content, style and format of any resume’s are left to the applicant.
Please note that applications can only be accepted in Japanese or English, and those who have passed the preliminary evaluation by email will be contacted by our staff.

Work on the engine recording must have begun already but with such a huge roster and even though many samples could be recycled it's surely a lengthy task, does this mean GT7 for 2016, many or all standards not receiving new sounds or sounds being patched as they are completed?

Wait, I thought PD already had good sound recordings for all the cars, they just didn't implement them very well?

Now they have to go back and record all the cars from scatch?

Jesus H Christ on a fucking unicycle. That's gonna take forever.

And its also pains me that there are no sound engineers around anymore that can “make sound”.
20 years ago, there was a culture of sound synthesizers, where it was like “if you can’t record it, make it”. But since the advent of samplers, there are less and less people nowadays that are able to trace back sounds to their original principles of creation, and synthesize sounds that sound authentic.

IMO this is what PD should do. You dont have to record 1000 cars, just MAKE SURE it sounds like the real car, who cares how you achieve that.

I remember a youtube video of a guy doing car sounds out of a beer can, and sure as hell it sounded like the real thing.

PD need to hire this guy for production car sounds. He has VW and Subaru nailed (along with weed whackers).

So, about a gig per car?
I know that's not how it works, but GT6 must be taking up about 40 gigs on my ps3 at this point.

Engine brake reduction control on formula cars disabled

Engine brake reduction control that was active on certain formula cars has been disabled. This is a feature that helps you avoid spinning out from excessive braking forces generated by the engine while the throttle is in the off position. This was accomplished by slightly opening the throttle while cornering even with no input to the accelerator.

The hell?!

No way a simple decal editor and 2 cars could have taken up that much space. The update is larger than both the Red Bull Ring and the Senna update.

The decals are pretty high-res, I wonder why it's taken them so long to implement it. The DP-100 also drives much better than the Nissan 2020.

my guess would be that the two VGT image movies to go with the Aston and the Nissan take up a lot of the 2 Gigs.

Kaz was hanging with the Newey. Ideas are exchanged you know.

Indeed, but seems weird that there was an unswitchoffable assist in a GT game, even weirder that no one knew about it (to my knowledge) and weirder still that they'd then decide to turn it off and announce they have done so.

And here we go, to all the resident specialists, put your money where your mouth is and go help Kaz.

Wow!

Sorry PD, but this is just unforgivable.
You have had ages to get your shit in order and now all of a sudden you don't have any sound guys with GT7 around the corner?

Fuck, hire Nick Wiswell or Greg Hill and just be done with it already..

That's likely not a corner, Sal. More like one big-ass helix, spiralling into infinity.

Hours and hours of downloading, installing, hotfixing;
Go to garage, choose beetle, select number background, flick up through numbers; hard crash.

Awesome update.

Me too. I bet on this.

The VW Vision GT update had one car, a track (Red Bull Ring), a HD video for said car and was around 600MB. If we doubled that and got two cars, two videos, and two tracks, that'd only be 1.2GB on its own, there has to be something large in this update we're not getting yet.

Circuito de la Sierra has been added to track database.

No hidden cars in the car database.

Alfa Romeo VGT info has been added - so the next two VGT cars are from Alfa and Subaru.
