Gran Turismo Sport is extremely limited in offline mode (no saves, unlocks, etc..)

What if each of the offline features could be enabled, one at a time, via random drops from paid loot boxes!? Obviously duplicates would exist and the coveted "save progress while offline" mod would be legendary tier and very rare.

Because this, which again was front and center since the reveal

Now I'm pumped for this game as a racing certification justifies the game imo. If this were labeled as the next main version of GT then I'd have a problem with this like everyone else. If what chubigans posted is true then everything is in the open.

If you want solid online and offline racing then go buy Driveclub as it's cheaper and gives you everything you want. I hope getting the certification is not dependent upon racing against people online. I'm strictly a single player campaign racer with group ties but I'll give this game a shot after a price drop.

What if this game is good? Have you tried it?

Your not understanding my point. Street Fighter at its core was great but because they stripped away features it angered the core fan base. GTS could be the best playing GT ever, but removing so much of what GT was will put some people off.

Its fine if you don't mind but there are others who will. I honestly don't think the majority of fans are cool with the direction its going. I could be wrong but time will tell.

Not a great move, but not surprising.

This is just to protect the integrity of the online component of the game, to prevent people from finding exploits and carrying those over into Online Mode...I assume?

...that is literally the official reason why, straight from Sony/Polyphony.

Do you think they're lying? And if so, what do they stand to gain with locking saves online if it isn't to prevent cheating?
Control over the shelf life of the game. Can't have people playing and making progress in offline mode of GTSport when GT Sport 2 is out on the market. Can't introduce the feature later so have it in from the launch. There is zero reason why SR isn't the only aspect that's required to be kept server side. Aside from gear, suspension tunings, online championships should be happening with restricted car specs in the first place. And even those customizable tunings should have checks and balances.

No saves offline? Damn they really are taking it back to my PS2 days where I didn't have enough for a MagicGate for the first 4 months I owned the console.

I dont like sim racers period so I don't really care for this game but I mean, it sounds like it could be a legitimate issue if the game is heavily competitive and going into the esport realm so I don't think it's not a concern worth mentioning.

It's still a stretch.

Unless the save files are literal text files that can be opened and edited to say "car=faster", it's not a concern.

Anyone who brings that shit up is basically saying that either the developer or sony security is so piss poor that every random person will be able to do this.

People are reaching in trying to defend this shit.

Forza 7 - Loot boxes, locked content & no public drift lobby.
GTS - Weak offline mode, no dynamic time/weather & joke car list.

2017 is a terrible year for racing gamers.

what an overreaction... "terrible"? Both games (and PCars 2 on PC as well) are great games.

Anyone who has Forza 7 working offline, can you tell me your settings/steps?

Because it really doesn't work for me on PC.

EDIT: GOT IT WORKING, just had to turn offline permissions off and on

I think it's also a reach to consider it not a real situation. Any game can be hacked with aimbots , etc and can be brought online etc...we have seen this before. Now if the game has DRM, then I'm assuming it can be found but when a game is modded or hacked like it usually is through an exploit, that obviously can give someone an advantage.

I don't think it's a defense but a real thing to consider, again, if this game is going for an esport competitive scene and if money will eventually be involved. If the game is online focused, like it's going to do this, and a lot more will moving forward.

Everything else about the game I would say such as half asses modes are more shittier than making sure saves are done online that requires no PS+ to do so. If you are connected to the internet for a second just to save, I don't see the issue.

So something I don't understand, does the progress you make in the VR mode count for anything? Or is it just it's own thing.

I like playing offline, so I'm gonna have to pass on this game for now. Maybe flesh out a proper single player experience.

Jesus fucking Christ.

This is how far people will go to defend this shit.

How is cheating not an issue in a game that is all about online?

I wish they had similar articles when the PC version of FM7 launched with no offline. Bought it expecting it to work offline and I can't even launch the game without a connection.

You don't pay extra money for online service on PC.

Stop being disingenuous people. Yes, we knew this game was online focused but we didn''t know it was basically unplayable without online. This is frickin' DRM, and just like with MS, Sony deserve the backlash.

edit: So it CAN be played offline and saved without the servers? This is a lie?

If the servers are down or your PS4 is not connected to the Internet, no other parts of the game are available and no progress can be saved. (This means you'll lose any in-game credits or level progression earned in Arcade mode.) Obviously, online matches depend on the servers. But so, too, does the rest of the game—stuff that has always been available offline in the past. Campaign mode (the career mode that includes the notorious Gran Turismo driving school) is off limits while offline. Also unavailable offline: buying new cars, viewing your garage, editing car liveries, and even the "taking photos of fancy cars in exotic scenery" mode.

Are you a time traveller from 1993 who isn't aware that modding save files has been something that has gone on for many years?

They gain the necessary money/work required to make sure any holes don't exist and the potential(not that they will) to add microtransactions without people feeling like their money was wasted if hackers managed to add tons of coin to their wallet

edit: also they could have implemented a campaign mode at least for offline players and not locked away literally everything except arcade mode.

eeeh, not really.

Online racing is very structured and simplified. Daily online challenges have set requirements and car grade classes.

I can't see how if somebody cheats their way to have a billion credits offline how that would effect online. If you're forced to use a grade 3 car in an online ranked race, you are using a grade 3 car no two ways about it.

Regardless, this game is fantastic. Plays so well with a dualshock (rarity with sim racers nowadays where a wheel is required), fast load times, smart UI design, gorgeous especially in HDR too.

Have you tried the motion controls? They're sublime.

Re: the online stuff, it's because of the eSports thing, not necessarily b/c it's just online.

Is this really that big of a deal? How many people aren't connected? It doesn't require Plus. I'm not sure I see why it's an actual problem and not something that just irks people.

Knowing what you like isn't about not being open-minded.

If I want broccoli and you offer cauliflower I don't have to accept it. It might be the best prepared cauliflower in the world, but I wanted some broccoli.

Since when were Xbox One and PlayStation 4 save files hackable? Like...ever?

Look up PS4 Save Wizard.

It's still shitty not being to save offline though, they should just ban people who cheat when they go back online, if they never do, they aren't much of a problem.

I’m seeing a lot of comments saying that this is “obvious” and that this is primarily an online game is how it has been heavily marketed and pushed for months.

Although I admit I haven’t been in all the GTS threads, but have read more than the casual observer, as well as seeing a reasonable amount of Sony’s advertising, this wasn’t obvious to me at all. I knew that MP was a focus, but not THE focus.

The argument of not having offline saves because of hacking is some weak shit, really. It carries a lot of the same stink of not allowing full mods in Bethesda games because they want to be protective. Please stop defending this.
