Gran Turismo Sport is extremely limited in offline mode (no saves, unlocks, etc..)

Victim blaming? Get the fuck out with that shit.

You're literally blaming everyone else because you failed to research what you were buying.

Not really, why would a demo have online requirements and the final game wouldn't?
This information wasn't out until last week.

GTPlanet didn't know until five days ago when they published their article on this revelation.

So can we quit this line about it being known?

And the demo did have more online requirements than the full game.

It was out last month.

In order to ensure fair racing for all, GT Sport will require an internet connection for the majority of functionality. This connectivity requirement is to ensure that progress, car availability, and driver ratings are properly maintained at all times.

PlayStation Plus will only be needed for online multiplayer. Portions of the Arcade Mode, including limited two-player split screen, single-player races on select tracks, and time trials can still be played in an offline environment.

There was even a topic made on here.

This is unacceptable. While the game being online focused you still should be able to drive against AI and earn credits. Why is this a problem to implement?

That doesn't mean it outright said "final game does not require online."
That also doensn't mean that it outright said the final game would require online for game saves. So stop it with the "it was known". Hindsight is 20/20. People are just now starting to make sense of exactly what those statements meant, if you were around during the preview threads regularly you would see the doubt people had about it, it wasn't clear. The only thing clear and obvious was, that for online modes of the game online would be required (duh).

Please stop saying this everyone. Obviously they did a POOR job communicating the online requirements of this game. Many people like myself purposefully avoiding reading previews , watching YouTube videos as to not spoil the final experience. Many people don’t fucking know what an FIA is. If you took the average PlayStation gamer who has played GT in the past it’s very unlikely they would know that this new version has such strict requirements.

You guys are basically victim blaming and it’s not cool. The fact that so many of you are pushing blame onto people who expected a similar to the past GT experience is just unreal.

So you avoided reading previews/reviews, watching YT videos, basically avoided any coverage of the game because of fear of spoilers in a racing game, then you blame them for poor communication job? Did you expect them to call you by phone personally and tell you about its online stuff?

The game saves is one thing, but, legitimately, the online focus has been known for about a year or more now.

The fact the saves are online is wholly irrelevent when the majority of the game functions like just about every online game ever made.

The thread you're posting in is about saves and offline mode. And no, majority of games save stuff offline and allow you to make progress offline and save that progress offline, rather than on servers.

I thought progress would still save and then sync as soon as you got online. I mean, why not ?

Are they afraid someone might be cheating ? Shouldn't be a concern yet.
Do they need to verify your times as they happen? No idea

If true, that's me out. My Internet hasn't been great recently and so this would inevitably cause me some annoyance.

But you can do it, as long as you are connected to the servers.

For those who want the ability to enjoy all of their game's content both offline and in VR without restriction, there is a product available for you: Dirt Rally.

And that product's existence is the primary reason why I will not be buying GT Sport, despite it being the primary reason why I bought a PSVR in the first place.

I remember that thread. Not much was cleared up.

I took that to mean Sport mode and sport mode progression required online to maintain its fairness. We knew almost nothing about the details of Arcade mode, or that it would require driver level for unlocks, or what exactly you could do offline, online and with PS+, even after they explained it in that article, because of its vague wording and missing details.

And again, the online save requirement seemed to be news to the folks at GTPlanet as well.

The game saves is one thing, but, legitimately, the online focus has been known for about a year or more now.

The fact the saves are online is wholly irrelevent when the majority of the game functions like just about every online game ever made.
Sport mode and career were always depicted as online, with Arcade there for offline play. But Arcade requires unlocks, which requires you to be online, so its not much of an offline mode either.

Listen, I love the game, but the communication behind it has been abysmal, especially as regards offline play.

Sorry but some of us are only casual (I hope I’m still allowed here) racing fans and haven’t read any previews, I just assumed the core was the same. I have watched YouTube gameplay videos, not sure how I would learn it was an always online game from that though. So yes you are right, in the end it’s our fault for not doing better research I guess, but I still think it is a mistake. Wouldn’t be surprised if it only does GT6 numbers maybe lower.

Nordschleife ends with a right turn.

Sorry I just wanted to make that joke.

Not really, why would a demo have online requirements and the final game wouldn't?

Well for example because one could disconnect, manually change the date on his/her PS4 and play that limited time demo forever.

Didn't we already know this? Pretty sure I've read about the fact that without an internet connection there will be many limitations. And I assume it's in place to avoid offline savegame modding for credits to ensure the online environment stays healthy.

Stop. The majority do not read and review every piece of media before a game release.

The PSN store should have all the information anyone needs to know before a purchase... or even yet, a PREORDER. And what do you see? Online (Optional) Why would anyone accept this outcome after reading that... when they buy what could be their 9th? GT title.

I was planning to buy this game for my Dad who doesn't have his PlayStation connected to the internet. He used to enjoy the older games a lot. I hadn't been following the game very closely and assumed it'd be similar to the old titles in terms of being playable offline. Glad I read this before I bought it, and I'll make sure he knows not to buy it himself. Pretty disappointing really. Still, I'd imagine there aren't too many others with their PS4 strictly offline.

Another game disc that will end up being a useless piece of plastic later down the line.

Unless there will be a way to emulate an online connection and/or a way to manually patch (and find these patches) many games on the future PS4 emulator, so many PS4 games will just be unplayable or just stripped of all modes and features.

This generation's game library will be a hard one to preserve.

I don't know, hopefully by the time Sony shuts down the servers, PD will release a patch to make it work offline.

We are on NeoGaf where research is plastered on the front page daily and almost everyone in this thread interacts with majority of it. Yes, I think it's fair to say those who are "interested" are kind of at fault for not paying attention.

I don't think the message was borked at all. This is no different than any other game...stop pretending like it is vastly different.

Welp! I guess even OP is wrong for creating a thread to give information to people that might be missed or interpreted the message wrong. Since you don't think the message was garbled means everyone else should not have been confused. Who should even wait until the game releases to find out concrete information about what is and what isn't? You're right. Information was out there previously. Mods should close this thread.

Can't even.

Im on GAF at least once every hour during the day, I might have missed a pevious thread that said how GTS was droping one of its core components. All I remember seen was a bunch of theads regarding performance in graphic that always devolved in Console warrior drivel which put me off from wanting to see any GTS related thread.

Any video game series thats been around for so long like GT should have to make sure to advertised such change with a better campaing, not like it is know which probrably will help sales as many players will buy thinking this GT is like all orher entries before., how convinient.

Its certainly up to the customer to do some basic research, but even among those who have Polyphony's messaging has been confusing, contradictory and vague.

There is literally a thread that outlines the stuff that will be in the game as well as the online requirement. And that thread only had 4 pages....I don't know what that says about the people who are interested in the game if that thread isn't exploding like this one.

http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=1433174

The link, the details and specifics that says, majority of the functionaility of the game will be online focused and verified was pretty much listed there. And again, I don't even care for GT, but I don't think anything here wasn't clear. The point from the get go was that it is online and will have very miniscule offline abilities. I don't know what to say if anyone who is actually interested in the game missed that thread or just assumed everything would stay the same.

The thread is fine for what it is, because it's telling you why it's limited, but it's not "new" information. Also interestingly enough, in the same article that was kind of omitted from the OP, the author of said article even mentioned that Sony did warn of this situation. So again, I don't know what the big deal is. If they didn't mention it period and if the box itself didn't have such information listed, then I could understand...but I don't think anything here was not stated.

Glad I chose to snag GT6 yesterday for $15 bucks as my first Gran Turismo. Having a blast!

Will wait and see how all this settles out...
We have a product for people with limited connectivity, its called Gran Turismo 6

huh I have to admit I thought Sport was like online only or something, so, kinda surprised to hear there is offline stuff at all?

I think this goes to show how clued out many of us are about this latest Gran Turismo. I mean it looks nice but yeah, I guess I don't actually know anything about it.

In any case, some of these restrictions sound pretty harsh. Are there microtransactions in this game? That would make some of this make sense, but I thought we heard it was devoid of them.

I can see how people would buy it assuming it's like all the past ones. The subtitle "sport" is supposed to convey the difference somehow but it doesn't do a very good job.

Of course not. It still says "Gran Turismo" and will sell boat loads on that alone.

Exactly the point I was trying to make. I was a bit too sarcastic, apologies. Things change all the time. Especially with Day 1 patches, you never know what you're going to get fully until a game actually releases. Vague information certainly doesn't help.

Making a list thread to throw in a change as big as this is just disingenuous, This is an example on something that will inform people:

http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=1132232

And this is not even as big as GTS change.

But it has? I'll ask you a question, where else is Sony suppose to explain what the game will and will not have? Certainly that would be through their channels right? Just like Microsoft announces it's Xbox updates through their channels right? Or Nintendo has it's own direct for their games right? So if this is the case and you know of this because ...

A) You looked this up by going to the direct source

B) You seen it on NeoGaf

Or C) It was reported by your preferred new outlet

Then what was missed or completely misconstrued here? All of these things happened. I trying to understand what exactly was missed here that makes this situation bad? It's not like they even tried to hide this in any coded writing or they even went through everything to hide it (like not putting it on the box). I'm almost surprised that people who understands it has no microtransactions or loot boxes completely glossed over this?

Like I'm not saying that y'all are inept of reading or something but this is not as extreme as this thread is making it out to be. It was noted and repeated. I understand thinking it is the same game as before but I think they actually did go out of their way to let everyone know that it is going to be different than the rest. I dont know if they removed anything since i heavily dislike sim racers so I don't know about that but I'm just a bit confused...

Look at your link....The Dev responded to this because split screen was removed from the game due to some issue with framerate and that was after fan feedback. There's a big difference here. And I believe that was discovered after the game launched....not even before it. Come on....

Don’t bother dude. It seems if we want to go into select games “fresh” it’s our fault if we are surprised by massive game altering features that greatly impact the experience when the game is about to release. Also I learned that going to a “forum” is now equal to “research”. Gonna go to the local colleges and let all the professors know as soon as possible lol.

I know there are hundreds of games out there with online multiplayer, that have offline saves that don't have values that can be edited which give you an advantage online.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but stuff like earning credits, license tests etc can be earned "offline." So the offline stuff affects the online stuff. EG, if you don't pass certain tests, you won't qualify to compete in certain online races.

Just look at Diablo 3 console to see how offline modding has ruined the multiplayer component - there is a reason why now seasons on console is online only.

If your game is unserviceable offline, you should tell your customers months in advance. Specially when your franchise is 20 years old and this is the first iteration in which an online connection is required to progress offline.

Yeah, if the online focus is so obvious as people are saying here and if that is the big difference from previous games, then why not call it Gran Turismo Online?

In the previous thread about SP weeks ago people said that most stuff would be working offline and it was basically GT7. Complete bs.

Are you suggesting they drop the name Gran turismo? Idk bout that.

No, just saying folks see GT and will be ecstatic a new game has finally released. Time will tell if the casual fans, of which GT has many, will embrace the new direction.

I think it wasn't called GT7 for a reason. PD already mentioned that it's online focused game and they did give it a different name to make that clear yet people still complain.
