Grand Carnival of Stupid /// VGTech's The Division 2 4k/60 patch analysis for Series S/X and PS5

PS5 uses a dynamic resolution with the highest native resolution found being approximately 3072x1728 and the lowest native resolution found being 1920x1080. On PS5 native resolution pixel counts seem to often be between approximately 2400x1350 and 1920x1080. On PS5 there is a form of temporal reconstruction used that can increase the resolution up to 3840x2160.

Xbox Series X uses a dynamic resolution with the highest native resolution found being 3840x2160 and the lowest native resolution found being approximately 2816x1584. On Xbox Series X native resolution pixel counts seem to often be between approximately 3840x2160 and 3200x1800. On Xbox Series X there is a form of temporal reconstruction used to increase the resolution up to 3840x2160 when rendering natively below this resolution.

Xbox Series S uses a dynamic resolution with the highest native resolution found being 1920x1080 and the lowest native resolution found being approximately 1600x900. On Xbox Series S native resolution pixel counts at 1920x1080 seem to be common. On Xbox Series S there is a form of temporal reconstruction used to increase the resolution up to 1920x1080 when rendering natively below this resolution.

The PS5 is missing screen space reflections which are present on both Xbox consoles. Edit: The PS5 is also missing fog that is present on both Xbox consoles. The frame rate can be inconsistent on both Xbox consoles with the frame rate sometimes dropping into the forties or fifties during scenes that previously ran at 60fps http://bit.ly/2YPi44Q This issue wasn't encountered on PS5. He counts the same resolution as DF does in their analysis. Honestly kinda surprised this wasn't already posted, I didn't even know he put this up 4 days ago.

Might wanna add his framerate stats to the OP, this is what he is known for

Hahaha. Best thread title I've seen do far with all these pixel counting videos coming out of the woodwork.

Wow. PS5 native res is actually max 1728p. Since many people don't like DF, let's go with VGTech as the defacto standard.

1728p it is.
I'm sure PS4 Pro was higher than that😂

There is a summary in the other thread.

- Game is running in BC mode, or as Tom calls it "BC+ mode"
- Notable downgrades to PS5 version compared to PS4 Pro, missing fog and other effects
- Series S targets 60fps/1080p (dynamic)
- Series X targets 60fps/4k, as high as native 4k, drops as low as 1800p
- PS5 reconstructs to 4k from a max resolution of 1890p, lowest res they counted was 1080p
- Series X takes lead with better BC enhancements
- Newer consoles have better texture pop-in
- Tom hopes the missing effects on PS5 is a bug that will be addressed, Alex surprised this patch even made it out the door in current state
- Black levels are crushed on PS5 version (around 8:20 mark)
- Reflections not working properly on PS5, flat out missing in some areas, Alex says it is definitely a bug that needs to be addressed
- PS5 holds 60 fps very well, Tom did notice one instance of screen tearing around the 12:15 mark that wasn't duplicated on Series X
- Series X holds 60 well but has more slight dips than PS5 probably due to higher settings
- PS5 version clearly not tapping into the increased I/O bandwidth

Seriously though, this smacks more of a crap job by UbiSoft and less of a (yet another) flex by Microsoft. Sure the PS5 has a few more frames and fewer dips...but it also looks like a potato in comparison (not really, but it does look worse).

Maybe UbiSoft should get the interns off the PS5 patch and put the big guns on it. Then I’m sure it will achieve parity (or very close) with the XSX version.

How Would people be able to cope back when the OG Xbox and PS2 had huge gulf in quality lol can't imagine what it would be like if the Internet was as widespread as it is now.

That's becasue Xbox Series is easier to develop for since its unified. Better backwards compatibility tools.

TD has always been an XB centric game. There's no reason for the PS5 version to be so bad. First they 'forgot' to add volumetric fog and reflections. And now all this. Ridiculous resolution among other things
