Greg Miller, Colin Moriarty & crew leave IGN to grow their new Venture

Via Patreon.com/kindafunnygames

Colin Moriarty, Nick Scarpino, Tim Gettys, and I (Greg Miller) quit our jobs at IGN.com, and it's all your fault.

In September, you changed our lives. We launched a Patreon for Kinda Funny, and your response was beyond (BEYOND!) our wildest expectations. The support, the Tweets, the shares -- it all showed that we really had built the community of best friends we’re always talking about. And, once we knew that, all we wanted to do was make more content for you.

Enter Kinda Funny Games. Now that we don’t work for IGN, we can talk about the stuff you’ve always wanted us to talk about on YouTube -- games.

We’re launching a brand new podcast called Kinda Funny Gamescast, Twitch streams, YouTube Let’s Plays Monday through Friday, and a daily Twitch.tv/KindaFunnyGames talkshow titled Colin and Greg Live.

That’s right; we’re basically giving you Podcast Beyond, but every weekday instead of once a week, and about more than just PlayStation.

Kinda Funny Games isn’t going to break the news or get exclusive reviews. We’re here to interpret games with you. Colin and Greg Live is about having you on the show via Twitch chat and covering everything from comics to TV to games to movies.

So, why launch another Patreon? Well, to us, Patreon is a subscription model. Your support here gets you early access to The Kinda Funny Gamescast, exclusive episodes of the show, and a number of other ways to privately access us. Also, your support now literally keeps us alive. There’s no fallback plan here -- you wanted more, we wanted to give you more, and now, we jump together.

Aside from keeping us fed, your support will go to upgrading our streaming/gaming equipment, getting us to shows around the country, and, of course, making you better content whether it be driving to podcast with Kevin Smith or getting some big name voice actor to SF.

Kinda Funny Games is the coolest thing I’ve ever done, and I’m excited to take this next step with you. Whether you support us here, back both Patreons, or just like one of our videos, thank you for making my dreams come true.

Until next time, it’s been my pleasure to serve you.

Wow. Never thought they would leave IGN but they know their fan base will follow them.

RIP IGN.

Good and bad. I look forward to their independent work but will miss them on ign nonetheless.

I really hope we don't not get the last history of naughty dog article now though.. Please Colin! <3

Interesting move to make. Leaving probably a decent paying job with benefits, to then rely on donations to make a living income. Seems to be the norm for today's podcasters though.

Wish them luck

Holy crap, no more podcast beyond :( I do watch their other podcasts sometimes but this will be the end of an era. Seems odd they seemed to love working at IGN.

They were my favorites, Greg especially, from IGN. People with energy always seem to get a lot of hate but Greg is awesome chiz.

I wouldn't say it came out of nowhere.

Once Greg started to sell himself as a brand name with his channel, I kinda saw the writing on the wall that once he got big enough he and whoever was with him in the channel would jump ship.

And no, they are leaving IGN for their start up patrion channel, not to join another company.

Well I guess there no point in vising IGN anymore.

Wow, big loss for IGN I think. Love Colin and Greg, Podcast Beyond was like the only IGN content I paid attention to.

Wish them luck with this new thing, though I hope they'll start up a new gaming podcast to replace Beyond.

No way they're going GiantBomb
They're not, doing their own thing through Patreon "Kinda Funny Games".

edit:

they will still be doing Podcast beyond though, freelance style for IGN

They say it here

Oh, huh. Well that's good news I guess. Wonder if it'll last.

This is great. Creative freedom to do what they want now, wishing them the best.

It'll be weird to hear their new podcast about games be outside of just playstation content.
