I might be alone in this, but I hate games where I have to switch characters. I find it so distracting suddenly having to be someone else in a narrative. Always hated it in Resident Evil games. Never finished GTAV.

Characters in GTA 1 back in 1997:

True and tbh it should be 0% a problem to have some ethnic, gender or even sexuality diversity for playable leads in a GTA game.

However, games like GTA 1 and 2 were made before Current Era™ of hyper-polarized, cynical, social media-fed identity politics corporate-backed cultural (particularly, Western culture) subversion of extremely far-left Marxist-based ideologies and bunk theories.

At least back when games like GTA 1 were made we had some semblance of balance in left & right political influences in various media, and those influences were mostly laid back compared to their near-dominating presence in media today. Also, you weren't literally demonized by virtually every media circuit or peers for having even moderately conservative political values.

You can't simply ignore the environments being completely different when bringing this up. That all said, I hope GTA6 can pull it off the proper way, guess we'll have to see.

Very good movie. Aileen Wuornos (Charlize Theron) had pretty traumatic childhood and she was a Finnish-American (all the good sides of her were Finnish of course).

But a character like her plus Rockstars' satirical dark humour would be awesome in a GTA game.

Bad decision IMO.

First of all, GTA is played by a large number of teenage boys who will not want to identify with the female character. The basic premise of the GTA series has always been to play policemen and thieves, which is not meant to involve women (as boys in a sandbox separate from girls and do not play with them). Of course, this is only a marketing criticism, nothing prevents a GTA game with a female protagonist from being a good game, but I think it may just not sell so well for the above reason.

Last time I checked, fem protagonist games do just fine in sales. Tomb raider was built off of horny teenage boys

I mean, that article is over two years old. People have even less tolerance for satire now than they did then. Everything in the media is polarized rhetoric and it all sucks. Nobody is laughing at anything right now so I feel him. Dropping a game as controversial as GTA right now wouldn't go over well even though I think it's exactly what I need.
