This week's GTTV is all about the new spy-action-RPG Alpha Protocol. The game comes from Obsidian Entertainment, creators of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II and Neverwinter Nights 2. We'll be world premiering a ton of gameplay footage, an epic new 2 minute trailer, and learning more about the ladies man achievement.
You'll also see some great world exclusives, including the first-ever look at the trailer for THE PITT, the new Fallout 3 DLC coming out at the end of the Month. And we've got the exclusive on a new, never-before-seen boss in Ghostbusters: The Videogame.
Also, don't forget to check out THE BONUS ROUND this Sunday with guests N'Gai Croal, Alex Evans from Media Molecule, and USA Today's Mike Snider.

Those games are great, well SS2 is, I didn't finish Deus Ex, but this is nothing like it. It's like an assy looking version of Uncharted with awful art with some dialogue trees. And though it's not totally clear from that video, it seems that they're using an aiming system based on states not on accuracy, which I really dislike.HK-47 said:Like Deus Ex and System Shock 2
I've just watched a big description of the game.Timber said:stuburns, every word you have just posted is drenched in ignorance. maybe try reading up on the game before you utter filth like "aiming system based on states" and "assy looking version of uncharted".

I think I have a fairly decent understanding of the game. I think it fits those descriptions rather well. They showed you adjusting states for your weapon accuracy, and they described one mode as being like the VATS system. And the gameplay looks identical to Uncharted, with the addition of stealth, which Uncharted 2 has.
You complain about me using Uncharted 2 because we haven't seen the stealth, in this thread you said you've only seen 30 seconds of AP. So assuming you've now also seen the GT video I just watched, if you don't think the gameplay looks remarkably like a budget title version of Uncharted I don't know what to say. Other than I completely disagree. It's over the shoulder, third person shooter with a cover system and a CQC system.Timber said:ugh
first of all the gameplay looks identical to uncharted because of what, exactly? because it plays in third person and you have guns? those are literally the only similarities between the two games and those features can be applied to dozens of other games out there. there is absolutely no connection between alpha protocol and uncharted outside of general trademarks of third-person action games.
"with the addition of stealth, which Uncharted 2 has"
again, UGH. Deus Ex, which is an action-RPG and comparable to AP in so many more ways than Uncharted is, had stealth. that was nine years ago. Uncharted 2 isn't even out yet, hell nothing about the stealth is even known. but if i have to play a guessing game, i'd wager that AP's stealth is much more like deus ex' thanks to their similar approach to level structure (multiple paths towards one goal), whereas uncharted is linear. and let's not forget that deus ex and AP's stealth are both rooted in the games' RPG mechanics, which uncharted does not have. ive mentioned uncharted too many times now. it is absolutely nothing like AP apart from the most shallow of similarities.
about stats and aiming: " We wanted to make sure that the player felt like they were involved with the combat as opposed to just their abilities. The abilities in the game basically enhance your shooting ability. Meaning if you have a level ten skill in pistols, you will do more damage with your pistol. So it doesnt help you with your aim necessarily."
there is no "VATS mode". what i think you're referring to is the one skill lets you shoot enemies while they're in a sort of stasis, but this is one skill out of many and not a 'mode', and from what i've gathered it's more like red dead revolver's shootouts than VATS.
i don't know what you've been reading, but you're really misinformed about this game.
okay, man. thanks for your input. i'll keep in mind not to try to persuade you with logic ever again; it obviously has no effect on you.stuburns said:if you don't think the gameplay looks remarkably like a budget title version of Uncharted I don't know what to say. Other than I completely disagree.
"We steered away from a completely custom look for our Michael Thorton character, mostly because a green-skinned midget with a Mohawk would completely destroy the story we are trying to tell.LCfiner said:2. the default main character face is awfully generic and bland. yeah, i think they're doing that on purpose to mimic the Jason Bourne (or default Shepard from ME) look but there's nothing visually that stands out about the main character... we can make our own, right?

We do allow some changes in attire (glasses, hats, clothing, armor), facial hair, and accessories, but you will clearly still be Thorton. We even explain it briefly in the story, but when it comes to facial reconstruction we leave that to the plastic surgeons."

it's not a stellar looking game, but i'm not looking forward to an obsidian rpg because of the fancy gfx and the slick animations.butsomuch said:I think Alpha Protocol looks good. Definitly not great but not horrible as like some guy said.
Congratulations, you're a retard.stuburns said:You complain about me using Uncharted 2 because we haven't seen the stealth, in this thread you said you've only seen 30 seconds of AP. As for the VATS thing, I'm wrong because I used the word 'mode' and you're right because you used the word 'skill'? What does it matter the semantics? It means the exact same thing to anyone reading it.
There is no evidence of branching level design, that video shows a completely liner collections of 'box' like arenas end on end.
We'll see when it comes out, but it looks like utter crap, it looks like it's three years away from shipping, not six months.

Owww... How could I miss that? I'm getting old...SolidSnakex said:They were actually showing both versions of the game during the preview
Although I agree about the lack of polish, that was the only thing that concerned me about what was shown. But the game is still several months out from release and polish happens near the end of the development cycle.
