Guitar Hero Live |OT| Not a Band Game

Just ordered this, looking forward to playing it!

What do I need to do so that my fiancee can do vocals?
Just a USB mic, if you have an old one from Rock Band laying around that will work.

Note that you can't use a mic for the regular career mode, but you can in quick play or GHTV (online).

Thanks, I didn't realize about the rock band mic thing. Will grab that while I'm in town over the holidays.

Overall I'm enjoying this, especially GHTV - but what's with the "Premium" shows? Having just finished one I must be missing something, because they seem completely pointless unless you're capable of playing songs well on Expert.

Firstly it tells me I should either pay "HC" (of which I seem to have zero, presumably this is microtransaction currency?) or complete 3 songs with at least 3 stars. Apparently I'd completed none of those three - whether they unlock if I'd stumbled on one of them on GHTV, I don't know - so it cost 3 plays to get through them and "gain entry" to the show. I decided to play them anyway, assuming the rewards from the premium show would make the cost of 3 plays worth it.

So I get to the show and it asks me to pick a difficulty. It seems the "opponents" who appear to all be AI controlled given the GH character names, are then purposely set at a higher difficulty - because despite getting 100% and 5 stars in one of the three songs, three of them finished above me while getting 3 stars and a completion percentage somewhere in the 70s.

This continues for 3 songs, I end up 5th (despite missing a few notes maximum across the 3 songs), and get absolutely nothing at the end of the show. Well, apart from the credits after completing a song, but I could get those just by playing normal GH TV for free.

Can someone explain the point of these shows to me? I'd have been a lot more forgiving if I was losing to human players like on normal GH TV, but when the game seemingly sends a bunch of AI characters to artificially beat your score no matter what you do, where's the fun in that?

Initial reactions from Christmas day...

It's quite weird fighting against a few years of muscle memory of how to play this game - but it's kicked in now and I've got it. It feels super fresh.

The Live shows are a work of genius - I was so suspicious of the FMV stuff, didn't look great in the trailer, but while you're playing it looks so swish. Brilliant feel to it - and I love how they've stripped down the UI, and the pulsing is your way of telling you you're in trouble. Then the little details such as the tweets and the little radio snippets, a little cheesy but it's fun, it's clever. Oh! And there was the ticker tape that launched at the end of a gig, that stood out as a cool moment.

My main complaint is that although I'll replay them - I've made a big chunk of progress through them and think I'll quickly be wanting more. Especially Portland Sound Orchestra. Seeing as GHTV is more of a platform I do wonder if they'll do a sequel with more Live levels? I'd probably go for a big expansion pack DLC but I can understand that could be a bit confusing with GHTV around too..

GHTV: I'm not annoyed by the lack of purchasing songs right now (I've spent loads on Rock Band) so it's nice to have a break from that. Could possibly do with a few more channel options, I like that not needing to choose element, and some of their shows have been a bit.. weird. Like, some songs in shows that didn't seem to fit to me. Also impressed by the presentation of the channels, them having idents is quite fun.

One so, so, minor thing is I thought "ooh, it'd be fun if there was a Christmas song" - thinking it must be easier to spin up quick things like that in this than RB, but no, nothing. Then I look in this thread and see it is, but I need to get to GH TV Premium, which takes a fair bit of playing, meaning there's so little chance new purchasers can play Christmas music on Christmas day.

Again, that last bit is incredibly minor and I guess it's a "oh we didn't think of that" sort of thing but hey. It's early days for this sort of way of doing bonus songs.

Generally - happy with this. It's a nice twist on the whole formula, with both new ways of experiencing songs and new ways of controlling it with the buttons. Well justifies its existence alongside the other guitar/band games now, they've done a great job with wonderful attention to details.

Though the Premium shows last a week. So, you still have a few days...of Christmas. :p

Haha, I'm blitzing through so I could get there no problem, but it would have been a nice touch for them to be part of people's early impressions of the game if they got it for Christmas - that the TV stuff is updated and can feel current.

I look forward to playing the Christmas songs as we approach New Year :p

So many disconnects recently.. ugh... very annoying. I can not get the last premium song down it just keeps dropping connection to their servers. I assume they were not prepared for the Xmas people joining.

Premium shows are a huge bummer. I was the same way, I would get 100% and still lose. Until your guitar is upgraded fully I wouldn't bother with them personally. Also I now play on advanced so that probably helps too.

I'd just like to echo the oddities of the Premium shows. Basically, I don't really like the model. The three plays thing is basically a way so they can go 'oh you don't HAVE to pay' when really it's a faff and you wouldn't want to do a show more than once. Just shore up the offering and make it a blunt subscription for premium shows with early access.

Hey everyone. I just got this game for Christmas, and I have a question.

Everytime I try to go to Guitar Hero TV, it just says the service is not available, anyone know of a fix for this?

Played the game for about 2 hours today. Really enjoying it. I was mostly trying to get used to playing it. Seeing the note to the far right kind of made me want to use my pinky. I'm definitely more of a fan of the 3 button with two rows as I never really was great at using my pinky.

For those who have it on XB1, can you help clarify the storage needs? The box says "up to 54GB." I'm just curious what the base size is and what adds to it.

Party Party Party

* Andrew WK "Party Hard"
* Steel Panther "Party Like Tomorrow Is The End Of The World"
* Twin Atlantic "Fall Into The Party"

The Dead Weather

* The Dead Weather - Be Still (Live)
* The Dead Weather - I Feel Love (Every Million Miles) - Live
* The Dead Weather - Let Me Through (Live)

Return of The Classics

* Loverboy "Working For The Weekend"
* Pat Benetar "You'd Better Run"
* Survivor "Children of The Night"

Also according to @GrumbleVolcano6 they added a bunch of GH Live on disc songs to GHTV.

* Of Monsters and Men - Mountain Sound
* The Gaslight Anthem - 45
* The 1975 - Girls
* Rise Against - Tragedy + Time
* Soundgarden - Been Away Too Long
* The Killers - When You Were Young

Was playing today and was wondering why I wasn't getting any Rivals. Looked at options and the Rivals toggle went bye bye. Looks like they removed it from the game because it was causing "network stability issues". Devs say it'll be back in early January.

Honestly all I'd want from it is both Rivals have to use the default Hero Power and you always get matched with the same difficulty level. If the same difficulty level doesn't exist just skip the Rival. Will be interesting to see if it comes back with some changes if any.

Oh shit, Steel Panther? There's like, tits in all their videos. Weird.

Is the Steel Panther video the one they had playing behind them on their last tour? The pool party with all the drugs?

I need to play this later.

Picked this up today with a Christmas gift card and really impressed so far. I think GHTV is a fantastic idea and the new guitar is great. Was cynical about them not allowing DLC to carry over but when you see first hand the changes they've made it's easier to swallow.

Yeah two channels of 24/7 streaming songs to play along with is so awesome, for me it completely neutralizes the fact that you don't download and keep songs. I even spent $20 in Hero Cash, which I never thought I would, just because I want the service to keep going indefinitely.

The video isn't bad and there isn't really anything inappropriate in the lyrics. It depends on how sensitive you are though.

The video has a pretty high volume of tits, although they have used one without any of the actual topless stuff.

Even then, they keep in the references to step-sister sex, bestiality, horny cougars, cougar porn and the lyric "balls out retarded insane".

Which is a bit of a surprise.

I guess the video contains enough depiction if sexual activities and drugs to justify a M rating, even without violence and gore. However, the online mode is not rated anyway, so there should be no problem with that.

Actually, I really liked that video.

To put it in context, i played band hero last night and the word whiskey was censored in American pie

As in

And them good ole boys were drinking _____ and rye

Reminds me of Fifa 2005 where The Streets lyrics were censored from "I reckon you're about an 8 or a 9, maybe even 9 and a half in 4 beers time" to "I reckon you're about an 8 or a 9, maybe even 9 and a half".

I still find that hilarious.

I thought we were due to have a third channel by year end. Has any information been released on this?

I love this game, but I do have concerns whether the model is viable and the service will continue. I just can't see how they can recoup the costs of licensing and streaming music, given that there is no purchasable DLC (only currency for various things, which is effectively uneccessary as the game offers everything without the need for purchasing more).

I worry that the lack of a third channel, or a large flow of new and diverse music, suggests a problem here.

Lack of new music? They've added over 100 new songs in around two months.

I didn't hear any comment on the promised new channel either. I don't have a problem with delayed content. But i don't like things to be promised which don't come and where no reaction from the devs is in sight.
And people are right, that there have been plenty new songs since release, but a new channel doesn't necessarily have to introduce new songs. For me it is more important to get more variety and options to choose from when playing GHTV. Nevertheless, new songs would also be cool :)

I don't remember there ever being mention of a new channel, but it certainly wouldn't come with new songs. It'd just make the split a bit nicer. At the moment 1 is metal and rock, and 2 is indie and pop, pretty much, which sucks for me because I can't stand the metal in this game but I do like the rock that is interspersed with it.

1 - metal shit/rock
2 - rock/indie
3 - indie/pop

would be a much nicer split I think.

Thinking about grabbing this because I need my plastic guitar fix and Rock Band 4 is way too much money for me right now.

Do any of you have two guitars and actually enjoy playing multiplayer? I keep reading negative things regarding the multiplayer so I'm debating purchasing the 2 guitar bundle.. BUT my wife really wants to play too, so I should probably just splurge and get both. Is there any fun to be had or should we just take turns?

Also, two guitar stuff is not available w/ the Guitar Hero TV mode correct?

Incorrect. You can play two players (or three players with a microphone) on Guitar Hero TV.

Multiplayer is just two player playing the same song. There isn't really much to complain about unless you miss the old battle modes. Don't know where you were reading negative things.

Additionally you will have huge interference problems while using two guitars and you can't login into two accounts. I can't recommend GH for local MP at the moment which is really sad.

Thanks for the responses!

I guess the negativity I'd been seeing was just directed at the fact that each player plays the same thing. The account thing is not really a problem for me as my wife has no interest in having an xbox live account, earning achievements, or saving high scores.

Smarty are you saying that there are interference problems between the guitars and their dongles?

There has reports of intereference, more in some platforms (like Xbox One) and the guitars are quite finicky around bluetooth devices.

So is a big "your mileage may vary" kind of thing. Heck, someone in here had to return like 4 guitars because they had different problems.

More like a warning, that if you buy the bundle of 2 and experience some problems, ask for help/suggestions in here first. :p

For example, my guitar works great since day one, but it doesn't work when a friend comes over to play wearing his smart watch. So he leaves the watch in the dining room, before coming to my room to play. :p

Others when playing multi had to insert the dongles in different hubs and position them in different places.

Not universal problems, but things to keep in mind.
