GVMERS - Investigating The Cancelled PlayStation 3 Exclusive Eight Days.

At the dawn of the PlayStation 3’s life, Sony promised that their first high-definition console would transform the video game industry. Its hardware would trounce whatever the competition had to offer. Its online capabilities would bring people together in revolutionary ways. And – most importantly of all – its games would astound players like nothing before.

Eight Days was one of those titles. A third-person action game from Sony Interactive Entertainment’s London Studio, Eight Days promised prospective PlayStation 3 owners a high-octane experience, one in which an unlikely duo would take on a criminal enterprise across America. Its intensive gunplay and chest-pumping set pieces seemed like a blast, and its graphics looked good – maybe a little too good.

However, before the world could judge whether the game was all Sony cracked it up to be, the company would swoop in and cancel it two years after the PlayStation 3’s launch. Like so many of the promises that were made at the console’s outset, Eight Days was pushed to the side as Sony sought to prioritize what was profitable, and what its development houses did well in the midst of the PlayStation 3’s sagging trajectory. London Studio’s ambitious shooter could have found its way into the hearts of many a gamer – but with London’s pedigree suggesting the studio would be much better suited making other types of games, it was never given the chance to do so.

This is the story of Eight Days.

My opinion that game was never in development. PS3 was coming it had no games and Sony made up a bunch of fake trailers to fool people that these games were in dev. 8 days, Getaway 3, Eyedentify, and a bunch more.

The animation blew me away when I first saw it all those years ago but, like most things, if something appears too good to be true it’s because....

Like the original trailers for Motorstorm and 2 Days to Vegas.

But yeah, I had forgotten all about this. I remember all the PS3 trolls on my old boards hyping the hell out of it, but then they all though LAIR was going to be a killer app.

Oh Lair...what could have been.

This is probably my favorite GVMERS video. I was very excited for Eight Days when it was first revealed.

Another one that was interesting to look at was Killing Day.

How about all those canceled PS3 games, all because of the Cell.

Man, a Getaway with modern polish would be amazing. The original was a bit too ahead of its time when it came to the focus on realism.
The gameplay was terrible. But yeah it captured the dreariness of London pretty well. Closet a video game has got to a Guy Ritchie film.
