So yeah, I'm organizing an event for next weekend and looking to use some Halloween songs. However, for the life of me, I cannot think of any outside of Monster Mash. I'm shoehorning in Thriller considering its Zombie theme, but I can't think of anything else.

If the song has some sort of narrative or figurative wording that can be turned into literal meanings (See: "Graveyard Smash"), that would be a plus.

I don't think there's anything popular otherwise, but hysterical obscure stuff would be nice.

Thanks.

I cant belive it took that many posts to say thriller

Perhaps the other people noticed that I was already using it. ;)

Thanks for the suggestions...I'll weed through these tomorrow.

CB3

intangibles, motherfucker
:lol :lol I was just at Six Flags Magic Mountain, all you hear is monster mash and thriller. Im very surprised it took that long to say thriller. Oh yeah, they did play Weird Science. Though that was a little wierd, as it sounds pretty happy.

Gorillaz - Ghost Train, Dracula, Last Living Souls

Zutons - Nightmare Part II

May be too much of a stretch, but Blue Oyster Cult - Don't Fear The Reaper

Any song on the Murderdolls (which is either a side project or Slipknot or vice versa depending on who you ask) album may help. The album is atrocious for any day but Halloween, so you've been warned.

I'm actually searching for songs/concepts for public speaking rounds, so I think I'll drop the song motif and go with Nightmare Before Christmas. But thanks for the suggestions, folks!

OOh, two more for you.

'I Put a Spell On you(Because You're Mine)" - Screamin' Jay Hawkins

"Feed My Frankenstein" - Alice Cooper

Also, I've always found 'Rock Lobster' to be a good Halloween song. It's just damned scary.

Nobody has mentioned "Bela Lugosi's Dead" yet?!

White on white translucent black capes
Back on the rack
Bela Lugosi's dead
The bats have left the bell tower
The victims have been bled
Red velvet lines the black box
Bela Lugosi's dead
Undead undead undead
The virginal brides file past his tomb
Strewn with time's dead flowers
Bereft in deathly bloom
Alone in a darkened room
The count
Bela Logosi's dead
Undead undead undead

Oh bela
Bela's undead

Oh bela
Bela's undead...

Flip City - Glenn Frey

Excellent choice. Actually, just play the whole Ghostbusters 2 soundtrack. ;)

Rockwell is good too. Reminds me of something Disney used to play during Halloween way back when, called DTV. They would play "scary" songs during video montages of clips from Disney movies. It was really cool.

I just listened to an Alkaline Trio song that's really cool, called "Your Neck." It's about vampires (possibly metaphorically), and it's catchy as hell.

D'oh, and nobody's yet mentioned The Ghostbusters theme by Ray Parker Jr!

Also, the Ghostbusters 2 theme by Run DMC(I just love that cheesy 80's rap).

Anything by The Groovie Ghoulies is a good choice. I don't think they have many songs that aren't about monsters or aliens.

Oh yeah, both of Rob Zombie's albums are perfect for this occasion. It's like listening to a horror movie, except it's a horror movie that ROCKS.

'I walked with a zombie' by R.E.M. (cover of a Roky Erickson song)

and if you want hysterical (and semi-obsure):

'I put a spell on you' by Screamin' Jay Hawkins

Witches Were Waltzing is an absolute gem if you can find it...

"when witches were waltzing

This wonderful song was written by Linda Williams

One night I went walking out into the wood,
And found I had wandered much more than I should,
For I came to a meadow, a magical spot,
Where witches were waltzing I never forgot,
What a wild and weird and wonderful sight,
When witches were waltzing on Halloween night.

I wanted to watch so I hid in a tree,
I said to myself, "Can't believe what I see."
It's a pumpkin polka, a goblin gavotte,
and witches were waltzing I never forgot,
What a wild and weird, and wonderful sight,
When witches were waltzing on Halloween night.

They waltzed in the wood by the light of the stars,
The scarecrows were strumming their ghostly guittars
for the skeleton samba, the goblin gavotte;
And witches were waltzing I never forgot
What a wild and weird and wonderful sight
When witches were waltzing on Halloween night.

One day I'll wake up in a wandering mood;
The west wind will whisper,"Away to the wood."
And if you go with me , we might take a chance;
we'll dress all in black and we'll join if the dance!
And we'll all rock and roll while the jack-o-lanterns jitterbug,
the skeleton samba, the monster minuet,
The pumpkin polka, the goblin gavotte.
I've been there before and I never forgot
What a wild and weird and wonderful sight,
When witches were waltzing on Halloween night."

the disney version is way better in hocus pocus

:lol Nah. Bette Midler made it sounds too...'disco-y'.

The original 'blues' version is still the best. But it's probably been remade 10 times since then over the years.
