But others did. And Bungie and 343 aren't perfect.
um

if vehicles failed in Halo CE and Halo 2, people would complain about them being brought in Halo 3 just as they're complaining about Sprint now.

The difference when comparing the two is that Sprint changes the entire game, from the spawn system and radar distance to the way maps are built and player models are designed. Vehicles only exist on vehicle maps.

It was the king of the FPS genre before call of duty happened.
FTFY

Halo 4 did 9 million, I dont think it will be that low
The install bases for the 360 and the Xbone are so radically different, and will continue to be during Halo 5's launch window, that this is a ridiculous comparison. Unless you truly believe Halo 5 is going to have a 100 percent attach rate.

Seriously people complaining about sprint and aim down sights? It's 2014, get with the program. Your telling me I'm supposed to believe I'm a super soldier from the future but I can't run or take precise aim with my weapon? Fuck outta here. And I've been a halo fan since the beginning. Embrace the change already.
Facts only. I want my Spartans to be the super fast, hi-tech genetic freaks that the Fall of Reach book told me they were.

and why is change bad? The radar system can be tuned. The spawn system can be tuned (lets be honest Halo hasn't had a good spawn system since 1) and the maps can be tuned. The maps are ALWAYS tuned anyway. I really don't see your point. You're literally saying change is bad.

I don't understand the reason why that matters. Game play is what matters. Raising the base player speed makes the game faster and involves more skill than having a sprinting mechanic. Sprint might make you reach the same distance at the same time as if it wasn't there, but the difference is that strafing does not suffer and that you are able to shoot while covering a good amount of distance. It plays a big part in map control.

All 343i has to do is make everything exactly like Halo CE while also simultaneously making everything fresh and innovative.

Change for the sake of change when the change in question has been tried twice and failed twice is bad.

I don't know if this has been said so far, but if the ADS gives you advantage or disadvantage, why include it? Obviously to appease the COD audience? Still speaks to a design philosophy.

Also, still doesn't excuse sprinting.

I mean, sure, I'll wait before I judge, but 343 is nowhere near off the hook.

I love that HaloGAF honestly believes Halo will go back to being the king of the FPS genre as soon as they "start listening to real Halo fans" and remove sprint, or bloom, or (insert game mechanic quibble here). When, charitably, three fourths of the people who have bought any Halo game ever don't give a shit about bloom.

TFW Halo 5 does 2-3 million in sales, cementing it's new position as the Killzone of the Xbox One.
Halo will NEVER be the king of fps again no matter what they do now, but if they want to atleast make a decent amount of sales and continue making more Halos, they need to listen to the fans. Kind of the same situation as Nintendo.

I thought Halo 4 already had sprint? I never played it but I definitely remember seeing videos of the player sprinting.
Yes, it did have sprint. Hence all the consternation and bitching and moaning.

Because we saw it didn't work there at all and mostly everyone in the Halo community hated it. If you haven't noticed, Halo 4 isn't a particularly well loved game.

Why not up base movement to sprint speed then? When the game is built with two different movement speeds in mind, the faster one is always favored.
No.

You can't strafe or shoot while Sprinting, they're two completely different states, that fulfill different gameplay purposes.

As a diehard CE fan, I think Sprinting is potentially great for the franchise, it just made the most sense to exist in the first game, where stages like Bloodgulch and Sidewinder could have been more competitive with smaller teams had the mechanic existed then.

Nowadays, it's just a capitulation to current FPS trends.

Nostalgia. C'mon gaf, stop hindering innovation with premature critiques, or buy a 360.

HaloGAF is like that verbally abusive "friend" that drinks too much while watching football. Change is alright man, if you don't like it don't play it.
That's what everyone did with Halo 4. I don't think 343 wants to repeat that.

I will bet you $10000 that halo 5 sells more than 3 million
You're right. Me saying 2-3 million was hyperbole.

But, there's no way Halo 5 will do better than CE/2/3/4 though.

Even taking the upside and saying Xbone install base will be 20 million next winter (not looking likely ATM, probably more like 15?) AND Halo 5 beats Titanfall's 25 percent attach rate, you're looking at ODST-level sales.

I don't think maps with a lot of dead space are worth designing mechanics for. "We have big maps, therefore Sprint is necessary so we can get away with even bigger maps" is adding onto the problem and creating others without fixing it.

Exactly. In all honesty, if I'm a Spartan I should be able to do things like we see in Titanfall and Advanced warfare when it comes to movement. Halo shouldn't be stuck in the past. I think just keeping a classic playlist should be enough for those who want that classic gameplay. Its considered classic for more than one reason and one of those reasons is age. That Halo 1-3 gameplay has aged.

As a spartan, story wise you are doing a lot of that. But the thing I respect a lot about halo is it puts gameplay mechanics before story/lore. We've all seen that Halo trailer where master chief runs up a brutes chest and does a backflip kick, that doesn't mean that move should be implemented into gameplay.

If 343 does their job right it shouldn't be a problem.
Sprinting will mean the base player speed is slower than past Halo games without sprint. That means strafing will suffer and consequently so will 1v1 fights. It also means that game play is slower because you will have to stop sprinting to engage in fights while a higher base speed will cover that distance and also allow you to fight. Finally it makes gun fights seem clanky due to the stop go nature of sprint.

They can still make it work, but I don't see why it should be preferred.

To clarify this post only relates to mp, not single player.

Lol this is not some mathematical equation, stop overthinking it in a technical sense. There are so many factors to take into account, map size, verticality, how fast the base speed is anyways etc... You're also assuming everyone will just be sprinting around like its Halo 5: Sprinters. Take a breath, all shall be revealed tomorrow :)

So is that considered rude around here? Just curious
Well the mod edited the post with new information, that was relative to the story (in this case it was a tweet). Just to add to the OP because people were complaining about the features and may have not seen the tweet

Are you 100 percent sure that the normal walking speed will be slower than other Halo games?

You lost me from the first sentence. I don't think we should be spouting nonsense like this around here.

OT: tmrrw night will be glorious on GAF, thats for certain lol. once MS and 343i reveal Halo 5 gameplay the hate and hype will be real. ill be standing in line at midnight for the game but ill be glued to GAF to see the reactions to the gameplay.

also, anyone upset about the lack of MC in Halo 5. tales from my ass has told me lots of Halo EU lore is coming front and center in Halo 5, Spartan Blue Team, Locke, references to lots of EU plotlines. expect Halo 5 to seed the ideas for spinoff Halo games that explore other plotlines in Halo ODST like games. Halo 5 is a power move to really change the series in a broader experience and tie in to the EU.
