Halo 5 Forge for Windows 10 will have full custom game support

Yesterday 343 announced that Halo 5's Forge mode will come to Windows 10. Just earlier, Josh Holmes, studio head for Halo 5, confirmed that Forge for Windows 10 will include Custom Games: http://teambeyond.net/forum/topic/5443-halo-5-guardians-discussion/page-4803#entry767081
We are giving players the ability to play full custom games to test their Forge creations on PC. Because Forge supports and builds upon existing Arena content, that includes the same maps and modes that are available in Arena on XB1. The intent of the experience is to allow Win10 users to Forge more effectively w/ keyboard and mouse and test their creations on PC before publishing to Xbox One. As such, there is no support for matchmaking or server browser. You will need to invite friends into a session through LIVE.

In regards to being up to date to it's Xbone counterpart: http://teambeyond.net/forum/topic/5443-halo-5-guardians-discussion/page-4804#entry767099
Yes. The nature of the experience (shared Forge content across XB1 & Win10) means we need to maintain both and keep them up to date & in sync with one another.

And if it will cost any money he simply said "Free" and that you can play Custom Games with Keyboard and Mouse.

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?
I'm happy... But this is just getting strange.

Seems like a good way of saying "damn, we tried and it didn't take off" when 6 comes around.

This seems like a needlessly complicated way of putting Halo 5 multiplayer on PC.

1. It's designed specifically as a better tool for Halo 5 Forge creators to build, share and create stuff faster and with more precision.
2. The bonus is that PC players can actually play customs with all of the MP content. For free.
3. It's not "full Halo 5" because that would wreck production schedules and be a year too late and the game (Halo 5) wasn't originally built or designed for both platforms in the first place.
4. Halo Wars 2 was built from the ground up for PC and console and, without committing to anything else in this thread, is a better example of what to expect from 343 and PC support in the future.

Is 343 developing halo the wars 2?

No, but they control every aspect of the franchise so I'd expect they want high quality ports ala Forza Apex rather than the mess that is Quantum Break.

Makes sense. Next year's halo game should be PC too then. Exciting time for PC gamers!

So no Halo 5 for PC announcement at E3. Set your expectations right everyone.

So... you're saying we can expect Halo 6 on PC? Gotcha ;). But really, Halo 5 Forge for PC sounds really cool. Might give'r a whirl once it launches even though I am not a Forge guy.

Can't wait to see some gameplay :)

Its a free game that gives you the core gameplay that expands and improves the existing Xbox One version. This is pretty much a perfect move from MS.

I hope people can put their expectations for Halo 5 down and just wait for the next big Halo game to be on PC. I know you can only say but so much, thanks for giving us information (even though it's pretty easy to see that is the direction you guys are going). PC/XB games will probably be the norm (where it makes sense) for 343i (and probably most MS IP games)

In partnership with Creative Assembly, who is doing most of the hard work, obviously.

When you say it would wreck production schedules if 5 was ported, what about the MCC? That entire collection was farmed out, couldn't you just have another developer do the port?

It's not a game at all, really. You have to send out invites to even play a match.

Considering how MCC turned out it's best if we just look forward and hope they have really high standards for their future Xbox/PC games.

343, just tag H5 as deploy to pc and it's done. Why are you doing these half measures? Games on PC aren't expected to have higher quality assets and high levels of visual customization. Just press the button and be done, the pc community would be perfectly content if you did nothing above and beyond what the Bone version has visually.

LOL

Jagged pls, you know it isn't that easy

You also don't have to pay for it. This version is about making Forge easier for the core Xbox One version but it allows you to play custom games without paying anything. Nothing for the game and nothing for Xbox Live. It goes beyond what its meant to do and gives PC gamers Halo 5's multiplayer. Sure you have to do some bits yourself but its free.

wow.

Even if what you suggest wasn't pure creamy crazy talk, do you think PC owners would say "Oh cool, thanks for save as"

Looking forward to see what HW2 brings!

They probably could, but they would need to pay the other developers to do that and have people oversee the project, which also falls under production schedule, as they will have less ressources somewhere else.

Ummmm what the hell am I reading? No really, what?

There are some really cool single player stuff in forge but I don't see how just because you can't invite friends makes this not a game lol

Seems like a backdoor way of testing a standalone Halo 5 MP client.

Wouldn't be shocked to see that for $20 on the WGS later this year.

But it runs on x86! It's clearly just a push of a button! Though I'm expecting you to tighten up those graphics on level 3 or else.

Or you could just read any of Stinkles responses from the last 3 threads and come to the conclusion that it's not happening.

The fact you can play entire Custom Games, for free, is insane!

Still scared of mixing KBM with Halo though

Wait, Halo 5 Forge is coming to windows? What does that even mean?

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2016/...forge-mode-are-coming-to-windows-10-for-free/

This limited free version of Halo 5 won't include the game's single-player campaign, nor will it include multiplayer matchmaking with random opponents. However, Microsoft representatives have confirmed to Ars that the free Windows 10 game will support unfettered online play with anyone on a player's friends list.

WTF why would they even spend time making this? I literally have no way of playing the game because I don't keep friends lists on gaming platforms. Even if I did, How many times is anyone going to be able to wrangle enough people for a 4v4 or 8v8? This thing is bizarre.

Because, hold on to your butt, Xbox players have been asking for a PC Forge client for a longass while.

Not everything is about you, bro.
