Halo Fan Builds A Real Life Warthog Video.

ONE man has spent five years, and thousands of dollars, single-handedly recreating the iconic Warthog truck from the Halo video games. Bryant Havercamp, a phone technician from Michigan, built the incredibly-detailed replica completely by himself, using traditional fabrication methods, a 3D printer, and the frame of a 1984 Chevy K10. The fully street-legal recreation is based on a 3D model extracted directly from the Halo game, allowing Bryant to match the truck’s measurements to the in-game version. Bryant told Barcroft Media: “Most people when they see this thing are just absolutely floored with how realistic it looks."

I always love seeing fan-made projects like this. There is a crazy amount of fabrication required in taking on a project like this. I have a 1952 Chevy 1300, which has all kinds of parts available but just restoring it is daunting. Rebuilding a vehicle into a new vehicle would take another level of dedication.

There are quite a few of these in the wild now, it's become as popular as the Batmobile to replicate. There were also a couple professionally-built Warthogs.

Weta built a Warthog for promotional material and shorts back in the Bungie days. It had 4-wheel steering and was engineered from the ground up as a working vehicle, not based on an existing truck. At one point they drove it through a concrete wall. It was based off the Warthog you see in the Bungie Halo games, which was almost dune buggy like in appearance.

There is another Warthog replica in the Peterson Automotive museum with a Hololense interactive display featuring 343 Guilty Spark. This replica was based off the newer 343 Warthog designs. Much chunkier in design. It's a perfect replica of the in-game vehicle aesthetically speaking, but it's not very capable compared to the Bungie era replica. It runs well enough to get to events but that's about it. It mostly just showed up to special events .
