Damn! I would live to watch the stream but I'm stuck in my apartment without any internet (it's not being installed until Tuesday).

Gah!

H4's campaign quality depends in large part on how well you've followed the lore prior. If you've read the Forerunner books, and some of the stuff that takes place between 3 and 4, it's fantastic. If not, it comes off as very shallow and somewhat random (though not incomprehensible, as some have claimed). Plus, they did end up sacrificing some of the earlier game's scope for graphical fidelity.

I really enjoyed it, though I can see why some didn't.

Thank you for having a level headed response. An entirely reasonable claim that I can respect.

If you really enjoyed Halo 4 that much, check them out. They are pretty damn enjoyable. (I enjoy the Kilo Five Trilogy the most, though that doesn't seem to be the consensus).

I never really was one of those guys that "religiously" loved Halo growing up, even though I was strictly an Xbox gamer since the OG Xbox was released. Never played through Halo 1, and only played a tiny bit of 4 before stopping.

I'm actually really excited to play through all four games on the Xbone.. Mostly because I haven't played 1 or 4, but it'll be awesome to revisit 2 and 3 after so many years. Plus 1080p / 60fps is a nice treat.

Except for repeated flipping switches, It was the best campaign for me as well.

Hopefully Halo 5 best of Halo 3 and Halo 4. Cinematic story telling of Halo 4 and level design of Halo 3.

I want to play Halo CE: CTF on Hang em' High so bad. Do you think you'll still be able to grab the rocket launcher from underneath?

Ahh, the memories of cramming my massive CRT in my car to take it to a LAN party.

the music was on point, loved the tone and color palet of the game as well. and your right, firefight in ODST was excellent, some of the maps for firefight made for such fun gameplay with friends.
Firefight's fatal flaw in ODST was lack of matchmaking. It made it so you had to know people who wanted to play at that moment, otherwise it was a solo affair.

The real shame about it was that ODST Firefight was so good.

Some of the most fun I've had in any Halo game.

Yeah, I loved Halo 4's campaign minus the hero of the entire universe being relegated to saving humanity by pressing buttons constantly. Also, the ending "fight" was pretty anti-climatic.

The problems with H4 campaign made it the worst entry.

It was too short, the climax was ... Anticlimactic. The encounters with prometheans were really dull... Ammo was in short supply and you were always changing weapons. The weapon sandbox was too similar across the board (promethean weapons were basically the same as human weapons... Couldn't they fight a different way?) The story payoff was weird. Prometheans being human came across as a dud reveal, mainly because there isn't any reason to care for them. Didact has a different demeanor in H4 vs the books. Infinity finds master chief, the guy who single handedly saved earth and has been missing for YEARS and they basically just say "hello" which was really damn odd.

There was far too much jumping around with those portals, way too many cutscenes that start with a focus on chiefs hands and then he starts moving them. There was like 3 of them. Those were super super cheesy.

All the characters added weren't likable. Characters like lasky just seem so forced.

The moments you were fighting the covenant were fun... But it was the one game in the series I didn't want to see the covenant. The entire didact worshipping sect in the covenant weren't necessary and just added to confusing people.

We were all hoping the game was going to be fresh and would take us all in a new direction but it ends up being the same direction as before. More religious crap of the covenant involving something about forerunners and somehow humanity is in peril, here is chief to do a QTE to save the day! Yay!

Game was beautiful and there was memorable sequences throughout the game, but it just was missing a lot of polish imo and in some cases a lot of content.. Game should have been 50% longer than it was.

The term "anticlimactic" is perfect to describe Halo 4's campaign... there was never really a sense of immediacy or intensity to the levels. Halo 3 is my favorite Halo campaign and think of the end-game moments in Halo 3... the dual scarab battle, the Warthog run to the end, music pumping, etc. etc. and what was the end of Halo 4? A quicktime event and an on-rails ship combat section... wooooo.

If 343 can get that sense of scale and intensity back in Halo 5 then they'll be good to go.

I also really hope that the cutscene audio gets uncompressed because that was just so jarring in Halo 4.

You know, I wasn't into Halo MCC until I saw two MP videos from H2A MP. Even though it looks different from the original, it brought me back memories from my short-lived OG Halo 2 multiplayer days (I got on Xbox LIVE in 2008, so don't judge me).

Anyway, I'm sold on Halo MCC, and I'm gonna definitely buy it with Xbox One this Holiday season. I look forward to playing multiplayer with fellow gaffers. ;)

The encounters could only be solve one way, kill the Watchers, then kill the Crawlers and as last duke it out against the Prometheans. That isn’t fun, because there is no variety compared to how you go up against the Covenant; who are not as dependent to each other, so you can pick and chose how you approach each encounter.

The (former) design director of Halo 4 acknowledged that during his GDC talk.

It's not the number of buttons in Halo 4. The button density isn't all that special; there are levels in other Halo games where you're regularly pressing buttons, but nobody complains about AotCR being a "button pressing simulator" despite a full-path run involving something like 8 button presses (if you only use each elevator once). The problem is the animation and associated loss of control.

The theory is that controlling and animating the characters in the game space according to real-world interaction logic makes it more immersive, but we simply do not have the fine-grained control with a gamepad to integrate that interaction with the regular gameplay experience. So, they have to rip control away from the player to carry out "correctly"-animated interactions, which winds up being much more distracting and annoying than "immersive."

At the present time, the far better solution is to just accept that the game-world has funky physics which allow a character to press buttons from 3 feet away without doing anything, and leave it at that. It doesn't "break immersion" unless the player somehow can't internalize that.

So what is the deal with the OST? Is it being re-orchestrated like H1:A?
Am I going to hear a new rendition of The Last Spartan?

So a couple quick questions:

1. 343 has mentioned that the delay from switching between graphical engines in Halo 2 is essentially gone. Has the same improvement been made to Halo: CE?
2. Will Halo: CE Anniversary still be playable in 3D? (I'm guessing no.) And will it include the Kinect functionality?
3. Have we gotten any word on how skulls will work in Halo 2? I'd love if they actually had a menu this time and you only had to unlock them once, but I also want the procedure to get the I Would Have Been Your Daddy skull to be the same (or at least similar).
4. Any word on how the progression systems will work in 3 and 4? Will they be done away with? Or will progress carry over from the originals?
5. This is gravely important: will the updated Blur cinematics include a remastered, amazingly rendered shirtless Jason Jones sprite on Legendary? It was in the original game!

What is everyone most excited about? Reliving the Glory days of Halo 2 online, or getting to play OG Halo: CE over the internet on proper servers?
I'll probably go through all 4 campaigns first, but I'm most excited about 3 and 4. They both looked great when they released, and they'll only look better know. Halo 3 is probably my favorite game of all time, but Halo 4 is probably the most consistent campaign. After that it's right into multiplayer in 3 and 4. I don't plan on ever touching the MP in Halo: CE and only rarely ever playing MP in 2. Just the occasional quick jaunt into Big Team Battle.

halo 4 running a steady 60fps. i will be in heaven. best campaign i ever played in the series. of course that's my opinion. but i'm not wrong.
It's definitely underrated. The most consistent in the series. No poor levels, a great story, looks great. It's true that it doesn't feature any huge open areas like 1 and 3, but there are several large areas that still convey a similar sense of fun. And the Prometheans get a bad rap. They do feel somewhat undercooked, but they're still fun to fight. The Knights are a little "bullet-spongey," but not too much (and nothing like the Brutes in Halo 2 who are the ultimate Halo example of "taking a licking and keeping on ticking"). I had a blast fighting them on Legendary (pro-tip: they're weak to Promethean weapons, and the trusty old noob combo does decently against them as well.) And the Watchers and Crawlers offered some neat new behaviors to account for.

I think I'm actually gonna hop on Halo 3's Heroic campaign first. And then watch that shit in Theater mode...I remember when you could watch it together with friends, forgot why they took that out.

Multi-person Theater mode was crazy glitchy. That was the official explanation for why it was dropped. And my own experience definitely backed that up. My friends and I could never get it to work correctly.

That's not really true. There are some encounters where there will only be Watchers if you don't kill the Knights quick enough, so prioritizing the Knights make sense. If it's an encounter where all three types are already spawned, then you can go for the Crawlers first since the Watchers (of which there are rarely that many) will prioritize protecting Knights. You could even go for the Knights first when there are Watchers if you can get close enough because they can be juked out just like Hunters in Halo 1. They'll lunge at you and if you can dodge out of the way, you'll have a free shot at their back. I got a number of assassinations on Knights doing that on my Legendary run.

Watching the re-broadcast of the Halo 2A showdown. What's that high-pitched indicator sound effect I hear from time to time? Sounds like a brand new sound effect I've never heard in Halo before.

I tried a lot of combinations, much like the ones you suggested, but mostly boiled down to the Watcher-Crawler-Knight kill combo. In Spartan Ops however, there was more variety; especially when they mixed with the Covenant. They are neat ideas that just need a little more tweaking.

Holy moly, that looks delightful.
Indeed!! Seeing as H2A multi is only running on a modified halo 4 engine, and Halo 5 will be sporting a new engine. Makes me think that Halo 5 is going to be a seriously good looking game!

I was trying to figure that out as well, could it be a grenade switch noise? I thought I heard one at the same time someone's nade type switched...could be wrong.

It also seems to happen when the player runs out of one grenade type and it automatically switches to the other type.

Guardian swat anything plz
Fixed.

Also props to 343 for actually making 60fps video more readily available this time around, it makes a world of difference.

So when do we see more of the collection next? (Read: When are we gonna see Halo 3 frankie, dammit)
