Halo |OT12| Last One Out, Get the Lights

It doesn't beat the SAW, man. Not even close. Getting a lot of kills with the AR actually takes some skill. You have to know when to go in and expose yourself. It's not like getting in close to someone is that easy. It's easier on maps with tighter corridors I guess, but that makes sense since it's a CQC weapon. I think the balance is pretty much perfect. Same with grenades.

The range leaves much to be desired, I've ranted it about it before, but still feels like you can get cheap kills from long ranges.

The thing that needs a nerf is that boltshot.

But it's oh so satisfying to use, I'm conflicted.

Same here. It's the perfect tool to combat sprint-beatdowners/guys who melee all the time, but I still disagree with spawning equipped with a one-hit-kill weapon... and a proto-sniper.

Well my submission for BSAngel is done.
Bravo.

Quick list, no idea if I'll make a bigger one later and I'm likely echoing earlier sentiments from a lot of people here:

Campaign:

If the Covenant are going to stick around in the next games, why not mix it up? I would like to see things like Jackals with Swords darting at me, Elites with Jackal Shields playing up support, suicide grunts with Camo. You get the idea, the list goes on. If this is a splinter faction of the Covenant than why are they playing by the same rules?
This would be awesome. I would still enjoy fighting the Covenant if changes like this were made and new enemies would barely be necessary. The AI in 4 seem far more buggy and dumb than any previous Halo game, and it really breaks the immersion.

But I'm still enjoying the game overall, so if anyone who feels the same wants to add me, feel free.

Happy Birthday, Wu. Mine will be in about a month, and it's going to be a big one. eeeeee

Not sure if this has been discussed yet, but I think 343 made a mistake with their killcams. It appears to me that the killcams are showing what your session has data for, which in a lot of cases, does not represent what the host saw. So we get situations were shots 3 feet off result in a headshot. They should do what CoD does and use the host's data for the killcam. I know they do that because things in that killcam can be drastically different that what I saw happen in real time.

I really dislike the new CTF, and it's not because I'm a stick in the mud or because I haven't played it enough. It's because I find the new settings less fun. I enjoyed the roles I played in the old CTF, and those roles don't exist now, or were changed into something I do not enjoy experiencing. I find the "flag carrier experience" terrible, and I find myself avoiding grabbing it now much of the time. If I want a giant waypoint over my head I'll play Regicide.

I can see why others might like, it, though, for the reasons you outlined. But to me, the heart and soul of the mode is gone, and with it the appeal. And I dearly miss one flag, which of course would not work at all with the waypoint feature.

I think it's a design change designed to foster teamplay in an environment where people aren't talking as much, and where fewer people are playing as a party. In my experience it's worked to that effect, People seem to rally to the flag really quickly. The other issue the settings seem to solve, is that whole CTF games as 0-0 soccer matches. With no touch return, and the flagnum, I don't get the constant stalemates that I would see in previous games in matchmaking.

I think as the halo audience has gotten older, and groups are harder to co-ordinate it's a change that makes it better for the majority of players. It certainly works better for me.

I think if there was a "Pro" playlist for Objective games, where I'd be focussed on going in with a party, then I would want it gone, but I like how it plays now.

I do miss one flag and assault, it's a shame too, because adrift and complex seem tailored for it.

I'm 6 missions in (currently on "shutdown") and am I supposed to have any idea what is going on?

I've read the first three books and have played all of the previous campaigns and I have no idea what the things they are talking about are.

They just introduced all of this information in a single cutscene and it kind of ruined the enjoyment I had of the Halo lore.

The meat of Halo 4's story is concentrated in the Forerunner and Kilo Five trilogies. Basically, the last four Halo books to have been released.

Could a new more powerful console mean smarter more advanced AI?

It definitely would, but the reason Halo 4's AI didn't live up to expectations wasn't hardware limitations; Bungie created vastly more engaging AI to fight against than 343, in both Halo 3 and Halo 4. As for the Prometheans, well, as a concept they just aren't that exhilerating to fight. All they do is stand there and teleport every now and then.

Yea, for some reason they decided that you need to read at least the first of Greg Bear's books to make any sense of things, kind of frustrating. It's really straightfoward if you've read it though. Watching the terminal vids helps too.

Quick who's who:

Forerunners: Not human, but human like. Fought humanity and de-evolved us long ago

The Mantle: A concept mostly, but the idea that a race should be the guardians of the galaxy, and guide the evolution of other species, and keep galatic level threats at bay

Didact: The leader of the Fore-runner warrior caste system. Destroyed humanity, lead the failed fight against the flood.

The Librarian: The didact's wife, believes that humans are to inherit the mantle, after the fore-runners died from firing the Halo's. The didact disagrees with her on this, but she sets our species up to have a leg up in evolution after the halo's fire. She also created the Ark, and the idea of reseeding the galaxy from the flood.

Going through this, I realized one thing that bothered me about Halo 4's story. By expanding on the mythos of the fore-runner it totally buries the biblical allegory of the first 3 games. Without that central strand, the world building kind of unravels.

Guys, that Cortana Statue isn't a Statue. It was the original sculpt that the Halo 4 Cortana was based off of. I'd buy the shit out of it too, but it's not a thing that's going to be for sale.
Yeah... not necessarily true. :)

(That's the sculpt the original Joyride model came from, but the point stands.)

According to my Facebook...

Happy Birthday Wu!

To be honest, I rather like the new world building that has been done and leaving the biblical allegory behind.

It isn't necessary.

Unfortunately, at the moment I don't really have any cool maps.

But I may join you, time permitting.

Glad to see it's actually someone's birthday.

Happy Birthday Wu.

I've been duped too many times this year in regards to HeckFu's B-Day. :D

Today is Heckfu's birthday?

Happy Birthday Heckfu!

He would have aged 8 years in 1.

I may be around, I've been looking for some UK folks to play with. 7pm GMT +1... what time is that in England then? 8? 6? 7???

Flinch completely defeats team snipers as a game mode in halo 4. My most played playlists in halo 3 and reach and I've already given up on it 6 or so games in in h4. I get that you had to put flinch in halo in order to crowbar another specialisation into your 'investement system' (and as another tribute to the series Halo 4 is in utter and complete, knee bending reverance to, call of duty) but could you at least have left it off of the sniper? Oh and also, because Halo 4 only has two small maps and these are not in the playlist, every game feels like sandtrap or hem snipes. Not good.

can you please explain how to use this gun? after it fires you are supposed to press rt to detonate?

Yeah. Shoot it to fire and attach it to something. Then press again to blow someone up. I was playing BTB the other day and stuck it to a mongoose on my team, he drove into the base and boom, triple kill. It was crazy.

Lot's of people swear by it but it feels super slow to me. Maybe it just doesn't jive with my play style.

I usually fire a few rounds at my opponent while rushing them, closing the gap, and finishing them off with a melee. Using the SD in this manner just doesn't work. Seems like you have to be camping or something to pull it off effectively.

The sticky detonator is excellent - much more accessible and fun to use than the grenade launcher in Halo: Reach and equally useful (if not more so).

The three new UNSC weapons (sticky detonator, railgun and SAW) are great additions to the halo weapon sandbox - it's just a shame about those promethean weapons...
