Ah, so you're saying that someone without the Stealth armor mod has no way to "counter" PV in that they can't avoid that user gaining some relatively constant information. I was taking "counter" to mean something along the lines of winning a 1-on-1 fight against that person despite their AA. I'd argue Rock can "beat" Paper, even if Paper supposedly is countering.

Cause you're right, in that sense, yes, the Paper to PV's Rock is the Stealth Armor Mod. And again, there is no Paper for Camo/Stealth's Rock, unless you consider the blue radar dots or patience counter-enough.

At any rate, why are you against using the Stealth armor mod yourself, especially once you're countered by someone using Promethean Vision? It's not a traditionally Halo concept, but it fits your playstyle and that is by and large why that customization is there: to cater to your playstyle.

It really feels like there's just a point to concede here: Halo's different, and some people here hate it, while others welcome it. It has added some Rock-Paper-Scissors aspects, but it's not black and white. You can still kill Rock with Scissors, and you can still Rock the shit out of some Spock. But it's not as pure, and it's a shame there's no playlists for that classic feel.

To the bolded, I haven't unlocked it; another beef I have with the game. And as for your last paragraph, I completely agree. I'm fine with new elements as long as I have the option to play the game how I want to. But as it is right now, I'm stuck with elements that I don't enjoy. And next week with Slayer Pro being gone, I'm probably going to be even more disappointed.

That's what used to separate Halo from COD, I agree. The significantly decreased kill-times combined with randomized weapon drops and an assortment of imbalanced starting loadouts ensures this is much closer to COD than any true, Bungie-made Halo.

Imo, it still seperates it even though they have clearly made changes that reflect some aspects of CoD. Even with all the weapon drops and loadout options it's still Halo and you have to be proficient with those weapons. Even if you land the first hit, the other player can still strafe, crouch, jump in a combination of different techniques to try to survive. Sometimes all they have to do is get you to miss once or twice and they can beat you. And since that remains intact, it still Halo to me.

Me - I'd like to order a cheeseburger.
Waiter - what would like on it?
Me - just a plain cheeseburger, no veggies please.
Waiter - I'll see what we can do.
*10 minutes pass
Waiter - here's your cheeseburger.
Me - umm, there's veggies on here?
Waiter - oh, well it's still a cheeseburger.
Me - well I didn't want any veggies.
Waiter - you can just try removing them.
Me - I can't, it looks like someone fused them to the burger.
Waiter - if you don't mind waiting, I'll see if my chefs can get a fix worked out.
Me - I am kinda in a hurry, not to mention the fact that the last restaurant ruined my cheeseburger as well.
Waiter - well if you just trust us and stick around we will cook another one up for you.

Strafing, crouching and jumping isn't the sum essence of Halo to me. The same argument could be made for CoD - it's possible to make the other dude miss and take advantage.

Halo offered purity, a skill-first experience whereby the right to use specialized weapons (shotgun, sniper, stickies) or power weapons (rockets, laser) were earned by battling for them, picking them up, and becoming a specific target as a result of owning them.

Now? Well, hell, 3 different guys could get a shotgun or rockets if the dice rolls in their favor.

In previous Halo games, the difference between victory and death at the hands of an enemy that caught you off guard could be a well timed grenade or melee (along with smart use of cover and appropriate use of the weapons you had in hand). Now, between stopping power and the increased killed times, you're likely to be dead by the time the throwing animation ends, or you make it within striking distance for a melee shot.

The shoot/grenade/melee trifecta has been reformatted as SHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT/grenade/melee.

All told, it feels like COD Lite.

I wouldn't want to live in a world where Super Mario 64 didn't lead to Super Mario Galaxy 2, the latter distinctly covered in veggies and yet still delicious. But this is also an apples and cheeseburgers analogy given Mario is primarily a singleplayer experience.

It's crazy. I just paid for french fries and now they're letting everyone sample them for free. I feel cheated.

On the real, though, you sold your hamburger back and are sitting around in the restaurant still just to complain.

To be fair, Treyarch have made many more games than 343 Industries, so they've had time to accrue greater skill in that pursuit.

They had 5 years+ experienced team. This game is rushed and it shows. File share isn't up yet. same goes for the Ranking system. It could have used another year in the oven and launch with the next xbox.

I'm startign to think the Crimson maps aren't actually that bad. I've gotten the majority of the achievements out of the way so now that I'm just playing the game and not going for insane secondary goals, and now that I've learned Shatter's layout, I'm starting to have an okay time with them.

It's still probably the worst Halo map pack yet, but it's not as bad as I had thought.

I quite enjoyed playing on Shatter and Harvest...

Wreckage is pretty average though.

Yeah, Wreckage just seems like a version of Burial Mounds without some of the things that made Burial Mounds cool, with blinding lights on one side for whatever reason. The mancannons are kind of cool, though.

Also I want to smack whoever placed so many spawn points facing backwards. It seems like almost every life on Harvest begins with me spinning around in a circle to figure out which base I spawned facing.

I almost got rustled about SP being dropped but they said enough magic words about changes and stuff to keep me placated.

I've been really bitter lately in regards to 343i and H4. I actually like the game, it's just that this thread is like a giant magnifying glass which makes things seem worse than they really are. From now on I'm going to stick to the positives I think.

...

I really like the little throwbacks to previous campaign levels during Halo 4's campaign. Not even sure if they were intentional, but still cool.

From the top of my head...

First level feels similar to CE's first level
On the second level the bridge is similar to the walkway in The Covenant from Halo 3 (where Truth is hiding at the end of the platform)
The gondola section later on in the game is soooo from Halo 2's level, Delta Halo (or was it Regret? I can't remember). Just a little shorter
And the giant gravity lifts are from High Charity in Halo 2.

I'm sure there a few more. Made me feel nostalgic when I first noticed them
Or maybe I'm just crazy and am seeing things that aren't there... haha

Encounters are still longer in Halo so it still requires skill and technique to take a couple of shots to the head and have the focus to finish off the opponent. You can't do that in CoD. Also you don't die that quickly in this game compared to the other games and if you do, you probably deserve it most of the time. Heck, you have AA's to help you get to cover faster and safer if you feel you're dying rather quickly. And special/power weapons, other than the ones that spawn on the map, still have to be earned and battled for them, just in a different sense. I'll admit personal ordinances can get tricky but if the other team is getting them often they're working for it and deserve it. You can't knock that.

Ok, that was impressive. Doesn't really disprove anything I said in the block you quoted though, since he relies entirely on shooting and the ability he spawned with to pull it off, and not grenades not melees anywhere to be seen...

He would have melee'd that player that he jump over but someone finished him off. And what he was able to pull off was more impressive than any grenade/melee combo he could have done in the situation where he was outnumbered. With mostly a pistol too!

I missed some drama last night. Man, Halo 4 brings out the worst in people. Even on message boards.

Seriously, I get the fustration from how they mishandled somethings but it's still a good game. I should've been playing it instead of posting on gaf tonight. lol

When I was your age we were happy just getting the kill. Whippersnappers.

Nah gramps, it's about them points! Gotta fill up my meter so I can call upon the mighty Infinity for more plasma nades to spam. I lost track of how many times I've looked at my ordinances and went "wtf am I supposed to do with those?" I know it can be all that random. There has to be something behind it, maybe the quality of points earned.

Tracker specialisation helps. Only problem with it is if you even have one thing decent in your options (say you had a railgun to choose from, but you wanted a sniper so you used the re-roll ability) it always goes to the Needler, Speed Boost and Grenades as options. Always.

can we talk about the utterly stupid strategy of throwing the oddball at the enemy so he stops shooting at you? God damn, get rid of auto-pick up odd ball

not to mention the number of times I've chucked the ball away at me, only to have a teammate who was shooting enemies accidentally pick it up and die along with me
