ncsuDuncan told me that each episode of Spartan Ops will be released in its entirety on Sundays, but this causes me to wonder about the first episode. It will be released on launch day, correct?

P.S. This is my first HaloGAF post, so pile on. I can take it. If I met you at PAX last weekend, say hello.

Is it possible to force the flag carrier to use the pistol in Reach? I thought I figured out how, but it's not working. Trying to recreate Halo 4 CTF, haha.

First episode will be available at launch.
Although it is strongly recommended to not start Spartan Ops until you've beaten the campaign.
Welcome :D

Can you CATCH as a passenger??

No. Two reasons - one is that it would make unmolested vehicles and occupants overpowered, two, it is the same button for catch as exit vehicle. HOWEVER, enemy players can intercept enemy throws using RB (or whatveer scheme non recon people use). Nothing preventing you from surfing a vehicle and catching in that fashion though.

Whoah chill pill my friend.
I was using Reach's poor matchmaking as an example of how skill can be used in matchmaking, but ineffectively.

I agree with you, skill does not weigh enough in Reach MM.
And I don't think anyone here will disagree with that.

plz plz plz plz

lol, didn't mean to make my post sound aggressive or salty. My bad :p

The outrage against CTF is amazing.

It's a team game with an overall goal of moving something from point A to point B.

Thanks for spelling it out for us.

A team game, that should require a team effort to accomplish that goal.

Who says? Worked perfectly fine for 4 Halo games. Has worked perfectly fine for hundreds of other games.

You can't singlehandedly grab the flag, sneak out the back, and run it all the way to the other base without the other team knowing you're there? Oh no. Grab the flag, take it as far as you can, and die. Guess what, you get to respawn! Or your teammates get to grab it. The flag doesn't return just because you died, and the enemy team can't influence the flag returning speed in any way.

Yeah, that sounds pretty fucking terrible. Removes the thrill of a good flag run for the thrill of a spawn screen. YAY

As far as dropping the flag goes, why is it such a big deal that you can't do this? The only argument I think is valid is that it goes against traditional Halo CTF. You can't flag juggle, but honestly there's no reason to do that now. You already move at full speed. You can't "pass" the flag to a teammate, but picking up the flag has made it your responsibility to deliver it as best you can anyway. Passing the flag saves time but that's it. Invest the time you saved into taking a safer path with more cover. Or have that teammate you were going to pass the flag to actually cover you while you deliver it.

You can't drop the flag so if you have rockets and a group comes to attack you then you can use that weapon. You're stuck with the pistol. A weak pistol.

Throwing the flag was fun. It wasn't simply about getting the flag around effectively. The action was fun. It was like a game of catch.

I thought the bomb/ball was auto pickup. Woops.

So....this "Hero Awakens" video series thing, we know there will be a part two sometime soon, but if you can tell us Frankie, are they all campaign focused? I don't want to know too much about the story, yet I can't keep myself away. Is the next one going to be say, focused on multiplayer or spartan ops?

LoL you really have a waypoint above your head when you pick up flag?

Isn't it the defending teams responsibility to keep dibs on flag, watch, and call out where their flag is? No, no, this is Casual City.

Will we still have a "regular" CTF gametype that is closer to previous Halo's?

How were you trying to do it? I was thinking about it earlier, and figured it would work in the Speedflag variant with the magnum forced as primary under "Flag Carrier Settings." I can't think of another way off the top of my head.

"Good luck getting the flag out of the base to begin with!"

What are the chances that the entire team is sitting inside their base, guarding every entrance? Slim and none. If they're stuck inside their base, they are making zero progress towards winning. And if for whatever reason they are all sitting inside the base, protecting the flag, then maybe you should think about switching up your loadout to something that would actually help you grab it, or help you thin out the defense.

As far as dropping the flag goes, why is it such a big deal that you can't do this? The only argument I think is valid is that it goes against traditional Halo CTF. You aren't defenseless with the flag now, so that waypoint isn't extremely troublesome. The enemy team will come after you, but it should rarely come down to you vs everyone. And if it does, you aren't grabbing the flag when you should be.

I think 343's whole focus with what they've changed has been to clearly define flag carrier as a role that you choose to fill. You pick up the flag, you take on the responsibility of running it to the best of your abilities. If you die, the game goes on, and someone else might decide to take over.

The argument is not because it goes against traditional Halo CTF (at least what is coming from the Hardcore community).

the bolded part has been like that in previous Halo games. I can make a long post on why your looking at it on the wrong perspective, but, that wont change anything.

Finnaly a gameplay with somebody using the SAW. I was just wondering, because somebody mentioned it when the weapon trailer was released, if you were able to stop shooting. So basically it is a more powerfull AR, but it is a little bit more diffucult to handle it (can't say exactly, but it looked like he had some struggle with it).

A friend and me, are planning to go to the First Look event in the Netherlands, but the website is completely on netherlands and I'm understanding just a little bit... Somebody from Netherlands please help.

Happy Birthday Plywood :D

To me, the SAW just looks like a reskinned SMG with beefier sound effects, resulting in a badass mix of weapon sexiness. Not many people would agree with this for some reason, but the SMG in Halo 3 was way more effective than the AR..

SAW = Intimidating SMG > AR

TU Speedflag > Game Options > Flag Carrier Traits > Weapons and Damage > Primary Weapon: Magnum > Secondary Weapon: None

But it doesn't work. I tried it in a few other CTF types, too. Either the player has their normal weapons (Speedflag), or they hold the flag without a weapon at all (all other CTF types). So... What's the point of the options I listed above if they don't force the flag carrier to use certain weapons?

All this 3 Regular meals and Sedative Computer work all day is effecting me weight wise. I'm Naturally built with wide shoulders and such and really interested in building muscle and trimming down the fat but I have no idea where to start and what kind of routine to aim for.

Well since we're alternating between AdviceGAF and OutrageGAF, can anyone recommend some decent (in quality and price) 2.1 entertainment speakers? I'm trying to figure out how they were stick in/out of some built-in shelving, so smaller is generally better. I just need to fill a dining room with sound.

All I'm saying is 343 is taking away our freedom. First we can't choose when we want to pickup the flag as soon as we walk over it we have to pick it up, then we don't even have the freedom to drop it.

Tangent:
Yesterday my buddy through a grenade at the enemy with rockets.
Enemy fired a rocket at him.
Rocket hit grenade, blew up in enemy's face.
Enemy rage quit.

Unfortunately 343 doesn't support rendering videos for Reach, hopefully H4 has rendering support.

If you guys (not lurkers) have any clip, that needs to be recorded, send me a message over Xbox Live (or here) with the name of the File and I will do so. Also tell me, where do you want me to upload it. YouTube, FileSharing site, etc.

You will get better gameplay surround out of a soundbar.

Cheap, easy, good fidelity, good positional audio.

Podgy.

All this talk about Oddball and CTF sure makes me hope that the reason we're not also talking about Assault is only because 343 hasn't announced it yet, and not because there's nothing to announce...

Love my Assault.

lol, 343 is not some sort of public service organization, they are making a product and they are not forcing you to buy it, so, if you buy this product knowing the limitations, that is not taking away your freedom!

How does he fill a living room with headphones?

Dude, I feel huge. Like just this week work has been practically force feeding me mcdonalds and fish and chips for lunch and i feel really bloated and run down because of the constant influx of crappy food's.

I'm skipping my last meal of the day now to try and balance it to some extent. But I'm coming home and finding little "free time" to exercise.

I'm just kidding, the north east has a particularly crappy diet.

Although, I haven't been to a Mcdonalds in 5 years, but I do love some fish and chips.

How is your job forcing you to eat bad? Cause you don't have time to cook healthy meals? And eating a light, healthy meal is better than skipping a meal, I think. Don't punish yourself.

My major problem is eating out of boredom. I'm in my late twenties, and my metabolism ain't what it used to be, so I really have to make sure to eat only when I'm hungry.

Note: if you're gonna play Halo while working out, do it on a recumbent bike. I did it on one of those, tried a treadmill once and for some reason it's damn near impossible to walk and play Halo at the same time.

Try the 8-16 split called Intermittent Fasting. Consume your food in an 8 hour window and then fast for 16 hours. I do it and I feel much better and leaner then before I started. Look it up.

The cheapest meal options at my university are Taco Bell, Chik-Fil-A, Burger King, and Pizza Hut. So that's pretty much all I've been eating. And I haven't gone to the gym for about a week and a half...

You sound like a 12 year old
He's so full of U mad.
That's the one piece I don't quite understand. I get that the decision to arm the flag carier with the Flagnum and the decision to disable the ability to drop the flag are related. But I can't quite figure out why they went that route.

The overall set of changes seems to be focused on making the game simpler, and faster. Simpler in the removal of things like flag juggling, and in not knowing where your flag is. It's in the way UI elements make the implicit explicit (someone has the flag, I should defend it...by following the waypoint and killing the guy like the announcer told me). Faster in the movement of the carrier, and the fact that you have a waypoint placed on you (no hiding with the flag, no searching for its location). I think those things will change the way the game plays, but I don't think that's an automatically bad thing. It will just be an adjustment.

But you can have all those things while still being able to drop it. Can't quiet figure out how that fits in.
I think it's all part of making it as streamlined and fast as possible. When you make that choice to grab that flag, it's fucking go time, and your team should be there to try to help protect you.
I'm worried about decent team vs decent team and how that will play out when they know right where the flag is and stuff. Guess we'll see.[/B]
GAF played GAF and GAF played a solid 343 team in CTF. The games were very intense and fun.
The lack of flag dropping and auto-pickup means this game would have ended as a draw. I wouldn't have grabbed the flag unless I knew it meant I had a better chance at beating the other player(which with the flagnum, I wouldn't have).
Except that there is overtime in Halo 4 Flag.

I mean to quote one of Frank's posts, but apparently I did not. Something interesting about CTF in H4 that I don't think people are really taking into account is that through the game mechanics itself, the map we played on, and the gametype settings (especially the new HUD material), carrying the flag as an activity for all players in the game was significantly different than in past Halo games. When a player picked up the flag on your team, we all went into the escort mode that the HUD suggests, and the game naturally shifted into this extremely intense attempt to set up a defense for the flag carried while the opposing team came at you with everything they had. Flag became faster-paced and much more based on teamwork to get a score or to defend a score. It is different, and not everyone will like everything about it, but it was very fast, very intense, and very fun.

I understand people's complaints about custom options, but as game need to be designed for matchmaking these days, and looking at this gametype as it's designed for matchmaking, the changes create a gametype that will be a lot more fun for a wider variety of people in matchmaking. The default matchmaking settings and map combos for objective gametypes in the past two Halo games have been mediocre at their best, and just downright silly at their worst. I am very excited that 343 has spent a lot of time getting settings and map combos for specific set of objective gametypes that are designed for what they want to do in MM. It should lead to a superior MM experience with objective gametypes.

Oh, and something I just remembered, when I was talking with Kevin, he said that not only were they considering increasing the power of the flagnum, but he was still considering raising the speed of the flag carrier to be greater than base speed.
