Also, are the helmets growing on anyone else?
Some of them are pretty damned cool, others not so much. The ones that were available at RTX were damned ugly, I'm happy that there are a lot more that I can appreciate.

I'll be going straight to Legendary to unlock that Mark VI hopefully day 1.
I've always found Heroic to be the sweet spot for the first time. Enough of a challenge to give the campaign the heft and weight it deserves without all the raging bullshit that can sometimes come with Legendary.

Nice writeup. Thanks for the link. It's been interesting the amount of change we've already seen in the game. Really starting to wonder what the final build will be like with all the tweaks/buffs/nerfs etc. Also, and I may be way off here, but it seems to point to a system that is more flexible than in past games. Hopefully with this setup they can tweak the game without doing a full on title update and fix balance issues on a monthly basis.

The footage I saw and your experience seems to counter that though.

Could just be the TV's and the footage throwing it off, it will be interesting to see how the Rockets have been tuned for launch day though :)

Sweet, thanks. I'm happiest about the nerf to the rocket launcher. Shit was incredibly overpowered in Reach. Its weird too, in the bulletin didn't they say they made it faster/more splash damage because everyone now has sprint? The footage I saw and your experience seems to counter that though.

I agree, also Hamburg is pretty nice for a German city I think.

And I could easily travel with a train from Berlin to Hamburg. If I could attend there, I wouldn't need to go to the First Look event, because I would be a very happy man, although it would be pretty cool to see the Netherlands. Still have to figure out everything...

I know a lot of guys immediately jump online to see how the multiplayer is, but I always do Heroic campaign first, then a Legendary run with my younger brother. We've been doing co-op runs together since we first got a Xbox/Halo back in 2001, it's essentially a family tradition at this point.

I finish Legendary solo before I touch the rest of the game normally. I think with Reach I just ran out of time and did a quick heroic run but I didn't really enjoy it as much so the urge to sit through Legendary wasn't as strong.

Yeah, after I beat Reach on Heroic I was pretty meh about the whole thing, felt it peaked around the fourth level and I was kinda just going through the motions. I beat it again with my brother only because that's just what we do.

So for me, the "Reach Sucks" mentality started for me at day one, lol.

That's great. I played the Halo 1 and 2 campaigns with my wife, but since then I've managed to somehow turn her off from any game that isn't Rock Band. :-\
 
Haven't touched Reach in about a week

Rage levels have been drastically reduced. They vein on my forehead is almost gone!

Probably the best way you can test whether an Armour Ability should be in the game or not is to have a full team use it. Then again, Camo, Evade, Jetpack and Armour Lock (axis of evil) would have been canned from Reach if they tested them that way.

Aesthetically it&#8217;s a bit busy, there&#8217;s steam and flames coming from pipes which can be distracting and there&#8217;s lots of crates lying about everywhere which get in the way as much as they offer cover, but that&#8217;s something that we&#8217;ll get used to in time.

All the games we played were 8 player (either free for all or 4v4) and I really don&#8217;t feel like Longbow worked with small teams. I&#8217;d often spawn and have to walk for 20 seconds or so to find a fight which is a bit boring really.

the gap in killing power between the "power weapons" in the Ordnance and the BR or DMR you spawn with has been drastically reduced compared to previous games.

Good impressions overall, thanks for the write up. The DMR really does sound like it'll become the go-to starting weapon over time, I don't see the BR or Carbine holding against it in the long run.

Which is kind of an issue, since 343 is trying to promote player choice in these matters. There is no player choice if metagame makes clear one weapon is far better than others.
Hopefully 343 can tweak weapon balance, statistics after launch... and hopefully the method of making other weapons desirable isn't to nerf the good ones.

Playstyles man. Why would they need to nerf the DMR if your playstyle is suited to a closer range of fighting with a 3-shot burst?

To elaborate, if I wanted, I could spawn with an AR. I might get more kills with that than I could with a DMR. Why would the DMR need to be nerfed? So I can get more AR kills?

I think the DMR is seemingly a bit more of a pro weapon because of the additional range on it. If players are comfortable with a nice AR or even the BR, why is a tweak needed? The 'go-to' weapon might exist in the DMR, but doesn't that mean the 'pro' playstyle would require that level of rane and firing capability?

Is there seriously a bigger gap between the DMR/Light Rifle/BR for those who have used them?

It's also about the size of the map, too. The DMR didn't work well for me on Adrift, so I went with the Carbine and it was much better. I will really enjoy being able to tailor my loadout based on the map and gametype (I'm still very curious to know how 343 plans on limiting them in matchmaking); it gives me a broader scope of choice that I've never had before in a Halo game.

Metagame can make playstyles irrelevant. People are rather KD-centric, if the DMR gives them the best performance, they're going to use it. This can be seen on COD (from what i remember anyway, nearly everyone used the dual shottys in MW2 before they were fixed and there were definitive go-to weapons) and Battlefield 3 (PKP is the go-to LMG, it is just so good) (and other games).
343 wants us to play as we want, then they need to make sure we can play as we want to, without us having a greatly diminished effectiveness for using something "non-standard".

Also, i'm against nerfing weapons. We'll end up in a situation that makes Reach look fast if that happens.
