Speculation is awesome.
I've spoiler tagged our perspective on this ad:
you guys nailed it - essentially this is Kat pre-arm loss - the mission in which she lost it - and presumably the original noble six you replace at the start of Reach the game. This was Bungies position, that it's not actually on Reach - but its intentionally nebulous. Casual fans won't care and will assume it's Reach, hardcore fans know it cant be. You guys are Halo CSI - can't get nuthin past you
Glad people enjoy it, turned out pretty sweet overall IMO.
Time for mega marketing to glass your wallets. :lol
You need to spoiler tag stuff like that anyway, the books and the game have been proven time again to not be correlated in any way. All we know is that
Reach falls
.
And if this is how she lost her arm, she lands and they look fine. Hopefully there's more of this or a longer version. This stuff is always great.

Also, I went to my GAME today and they do not have any copies of Combat Evolved for PC. If anyone can make me an offer for a copy (with legit key) that beats paying amazon £35 for one, lemme know.

I wonder if one day we can get specs for AA in canon? Such as max altitude, fuel capacity and consumption/recharge rate, an so forth. That kind of stuff may seem menial but I still find it interesting. I always wonder how certain aspects of the game would function if they weren't tailored to gameplay.

Bungle did more work on this than I did. I am right now, for example looking at a diagram Lorraine drew to show the director how the Covenant should be lined up on their flight deck, to give you an idea.
Yes, they redacted that after they found out the keygen they thought would be used to counterfeit codes turned out to not work. You can use a code from whenever.
original early storyboards showed Kats arm being severed but turns out ratings boards and networks arent keen on dismemberment favorite memory from those meetings was our suggestions for a noble six/kat exchange as he picks up the bomb.. "let me give you a hand with that" "the bomb is disarmed" etc (more fun if you do it with a campy Schwarzenegger style accent)

I assumed they had a role, but since you're on the MS side of the fence and had been speaking to the ad campaign for a while, I wanted to give you a nod. It's very well done.
In retrospect Bungie's level of involvement is quite apparent, given the level of detail on display. You know I've not been a fan of the live action stuff in the past, but this really is an impressive collaboration all around.

I don't know, I'd rather have the arm innacuracy than this "official" explanation, since we have the pull back to the orbit view of Reach and "remember reach" text at the end... it's just very misleading and odd.
Been watching kids on campus play Reach this week... I was struck by how average the game looked, graphically each time. I didn't want to analyze too much since I didn't want the game spoiled but, it looked almost exactly like Halo 3. Not good.

Yeah, it seemed like a copout to me. The whole thing is laid out like it's the battle on Reach, then this sudden "convenient" position comes up to explain away the lack of robo arm.
Not like it matters though, it's still bad ass.

Yeah, you can use any legit, previously unused key up until a couple of months after launch. Zeouter's gonna try and grab me a cheap copy from his local GAME, fingers crossed.
Who knows, I may even play it! Especially if it works with a 360 pad.
It isn't about her death, it appears to be about the story behind how she loses her arm and what happened to the last noble six. They made a prequel for the prequel.

A little late to the party but that live action spot was awesome. Really well done. Nothing looked cheesy or fake or even melodramatic. Excellent trailer.

It's funny because I played the beta and loved the game, and enjoyed how it looked. I liked the muted tone of the colors that gave the game a more grounded visual flair. The final version I witnessed seemed to revert back to the highly colorized, plasticine look of H3 I never liked.
Anyway, I'm done. I'll let you guys return to your regularly scheduled cult gathering of consenting opinions.
Recently, Bungie came up with a better alternative to free up memory: no more scoped weapons. Now every player in an Arena game will be able to rock their own armor effect with minimal lag!
