Can we finally agree that this is worst than DriveClub? I don't know what to even say about this whole ordeal. I just don't get it. This is a Microsoft studio. This shouldn't be happening
Yeah, it's more the fact the game was so broken to begin with that they're having to publicly beta test a patch for it 2 months later that I find funny. I for one have never heard of a big first party game needing a beta patch before so that speaks volumes for me on how much the screwed up.There is absolutely nothing wrong with beta testing a patch. The problem is that the initial shipped product was broken on release.

This part is great. You know they're going to create a bug that will lock people out of normal matchmaking for a long period of time.
I'm staying far, farrrrrrrr away from this "beta".
A beta after a game has released? Has this happened before? Wow......
And people who have this beta will not be able to play with those who do not have it.
Holy Shit.
Is this the first time a game had a Beta after it released?
The sad thing is, other companies will now do this, and gamers will still preorder and buy it day of release. Go ahead and preorder Halo 5, reward the company who stole $60 from you.
I would say no. More parts of MCC collection worked than Drive Club did. But the length of time it's taking to fix MCC puts it in a league of its own. I'd say it's definitely worse than Battlefield 4.

How are they still allowed to charge $60 for this game again? The people who already purchased this game digitally and were told NO by customer support in regards to a refund should have NO problem now!
NO means NO
NO PREORDERING HALO 5!!! (Or any game for that matter) Especially $250 version of Halo 5!!!!!!!!
Worse in some ways, not in others. Driveclub was delayed nearly a full year and still released broken and missing modes/options you expect to find in racing games that still aren't there. Not to mention that it still hasn't released to PS+ as it was originally intended. Halo MCC is worse to most people, myself included, because you expect more from it. To see MS piss all over the Halo legacy is just sad. They have more than Halo obviously, but Xbox is Halo and Halo is Xbox. They've severely tarnished the image of both over the past year.
Halo 5 will come out and this will all be a bad dream.
...right?
Presumably they're going to have set time periods where they're doing lots of testing. It would be difficult for 343 to do any testing for international play times if it's in the middle of the night.Umm, I actually did! Optimal population is so incredibly vague it doesn't really mean anything.
I understand that. What I'm saying is I have no confidence in 343 to restore matchmaking back to normal for beta personnel. You can't play with mismatched versions right now. The beta update will push you past the latest retail version. Nothing weird here.
If this were the state of my favorite franchise I'd be very disappointed.
Thing is, neither of those problems affected the paying customers of Driveclub. Sony didn't take their $60 in November 2013 and PS+ users still got a free game that they were entitled to. Maybe not DC, but w/e, PS+ has never been about getting specific games announced forever in advance.
As someone who bought both DriveClub and MCC, they were both equally broke ass broke and both Sony and Microsoft took my money with a smile ahead of time. Evolution got their shit together eventually and it worked out great but I don't think Sony should be excused for what happened any more than MS should be for the MCC mess..
Both were fuck ups of equal scale. This comparison of "which one was worse" just sounds like fan boy/girl crap at this point.
They BOTH sold broken products to their consumer base. Evolution did what they needed to to fix it and now 343i has to do the same. They just have to go about it through a public beta test. The FIX isn't the problem, the fact that they sold us a broken product is.
So have I missed something, or is this simply a beta for the next update? Because as far as I can tell, people ITT are losing their minds over some kind of imagined scenario where MCC is now "entering Beta", which seems completely unsupported by the link in OP.

No, you're right. It's the same thing that countless other games do - Valve's games, Blizzard's games, and many other companies allow you to opt in to a beta for future updates separate from the main game.

It's great that the general public is finally starting to see how much of a joke 343 is.
