Then why bring all games to gamepass on PC with this low subscription fee?

Do you think that MS, with all those billions to burn (Bethesda acquisition, paying devs for putting the games on Gamepass, etc), really cares about XBOX sales?

The answer is NO
Yeah dont know about that chief

The answer is a clear NO.
They care about Xbox but expanded to PC because didn't make enough money on consoles, couldn't compete against Sony and Nintendo, so an extra platform gave them extra moneys. In addition to that, it's their Windows platform. The one that gives them more of their revenue as corporation and that doesn't require hardware costs on their side.

So as of now Xbox is important for them because their game sales and subscription revenues comes mostly from Xbox, but since several years ago they are transitioning their gaming business to PC. I think some years in the future they will abandon Xbox specially if gamepass works very well on PC+mobile, but for now Xbox is very important for them.

There's something called PC where Gamepass is available and where all XBOX games will be too.

XBOX console value is laughable.

Not every traditional console gamer have a gaming capable PC. That is why they buy consoles instead. They are targeting the traditional console market in addition to the PC market. 2 totally different segments.

Microsoft doesn't care yet it sells 2 different consoles? One high end and one cheaper model in hopes that people will buy the cheaper model just for Gamepass. Their plan is not working. Lets face it.

Microsoft are being sore losers. They try very hard to sell hardware and when they fail, they say we don't care LOL.

Poorly informed customers for the most part. Most of them will be FIFA boxes anyway.

That's why gamepass is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. Most console owners play their games for months with occasional games here and there.

The only people who find value in gamepass are highschool students who have a lot of time in their hands to play 20 games a month, or xbox diehard who will support Phil no matter what.

No. You added stupid and poor. I am STATING that for the most part they are uninformed customers.

Source: I am from South America. I know the añmost monopolistic brand power that Sony has here thanks to the piracy ridden ps1 and ps2 generations. Most milennials just kept buying Sony consoles because it's the thing to do. MS and Nintendo consoles are almost alien devices here.

For this reason Sony has to do jack shit in Latin America to thrive.

- Poor or non existant customer service.

-Terrible pricing (no regional pricing whatsoever) unlike MS and he'll even backwards thinking Nintendo

- No ps now servers in the region.

- poor online

As a counterpoint you have Mexico. The Mexican customer is better informed and appreciates the effort MS made in the region. That's how xbox dominated there, even after the ps1 and ps2 generations monopolizing the market (due to piracy ofc)
Do you have sources for any of that? Sales data from South America is hard to pin down, and when you can it's sporadic at best.

Living in South America or not, your "I know the almost monopolistic brand power has here..." statement isn't actually the case except for Argentina. Xbox outsells PS throughout most of central and South America.

The poor customer service, poor online, and lack of PS Now is largely a reflection of that. The price difference was due to countries in South America requiring companies to have manufacturing facilities located there. If they didn't, there was a massive import tax placed on their items. MS played ball, and had some manufacturing there, but for whatever reason Sony refused to budge. That caused the price differences between the two, and promoted the gray market. Sony eventually played ball on the manufacturing requirement though.

Mexico loves Xbox for sure though. Tons of Gears fans there.

There are so many countries that are like this. Sometimes it feels as if the US based Xbox crowd lives in a bubble not fully taking in how small Xbox is outside of the US and how few customers actually are interested in GP (that is a nice product). People want to play with friends (i.e. you get the same box as your friends = large barrier to entry) and they want to play the big triple AAA titles. Big triple AAA titles have as a rule not been on GP and Sony is one of the best in the business to make the exclusive big triple AAA hitters (and MS is still miles behind here).
Xbox is definitely a strange bird when it comes to where it sells, and where it doesn't. It "feels as if the US based Xbox crowd live in bubble not fully taking in how small Xbox is outside of the US..." to you because you likely reside in your own bubble as well. No doubt that Playstation is a bigger brand than Xbox worldwide, but you're exaggerating.

Xbox sells competitively in many countries. Xbox sells competitively in countries like Australia, the UK, Canada, as well as all of South America except Argentina. Apparently Xbox is selling in India, a country who's population is second only to China, but because the PS5 sold almost 10k more consoles in Spain... Xbox is only a thing in the US and it's bubble. 🙄

There is no demand for the Xbox outside the US and UK regardless of stock. Lets not keep our hopes up.
It does fairly well in places like Canada and Mexico too, but yes of the main markets UK and US are by far the biggest ones for MS
Yes, this is Spain, a.k.a. Sonyland:
-PS5 selling 11x units compared to Xbox Series and 2.5x Switch, even if every new shipped PS5 stock gets sold out in a few minutes.
-Including previous gen, PS sells 14x units compared to Xbox and 2.7x units compared to Nintendo.

And the difference would be higher if PS5 and Series X weren't supply constrained (ot's easy to find Series S here).

Here in Spain it's easy to find Series S stock in every online shop. Series X, like both PS5 skus, always remain sold out and when there are new units available they quickly get sold out. Looking at the sales, new stock batches must be pretty small.

Spain always has been Sonyland, Sony dominated here since the PS1 days. Here even PS Vita and 599€ PS3 at launch sold well. Out of all the Xboxes, only 360 performed decently during its first years (PS3 being released around 2 years later, some cool exclusives in Xbox side, better multiplatform game performance, better online, etc) but still way behind PS3.

Nintendo performed well here, too. But even when Switch has been on top dominated less than in other places, typically Spain is probably the most sonyer country in the world.
At the end of 2019 PS4 had sold 3.5x as much as Switch in Italy, Spain, Germany and the Benelux countries, but about 4x in the Nordics. So probably one of Denmark, Norway, Finland or Sweden are the most Sony country in the world.

You could pack a turd in a Sony box and it would sell like crazy in Spain and South America. Actually they did from 2006 thru 2013.

Poorly informed customers for the most part. Most of them will be FIFA boxes anyway.

Yeah, just like you could release overpriced and underpowered turd like XBO in 2013, and the loyalists would buy it in America nonetheless. Hell, some of them didn't even cancel their preorders during the Mattrick fiasco, and kept on defending the initial plan for years to come.

That Series S and X split is interesting tho.

And there were more PS5DE sold than Series consoles combined....damn....

What markets do Xbox really have a chance in, US? North America?
I feel like this is why Microsoft are pouring so much money into GamePass. They're only strong in one market, and even there they're in third place.

I think in Portugal things might be even worse for Xbox, I read a few years ago on some Sony publication that Portugal had the highest markest share for Sony anywhere in Europe.
But they earned it. After Sony took over from Sega as the market leader, they truly invested in localized customer service while Microsoft kept ignoring us. They also made their games with european portuguese, showing an interest in capturing the market. The investment paid off, now a console is just known as "uma playstation"

Its true that India has one billion people and most of them are poor. Mexico's economy is the size of the Netherlands- a country of 17 million.

Just a pet peeve of mine. Population is rather meaningless.

You are missing the point: You list the UK where Sony outsold Xbox last year (and the delta is increasing this year) 2:1. Outside of the US (with the exception of maybe Mexico), Xbox is a much smaller brand than Playstation for fairly obvious reasons.

If you read this forum - or other US dominated forums - this fact is not talked about much. I have no problem recognizing that Sony and MS are more or less on equal footing in the US console market but the reverse is most of time not true.

And the fact that MS is behind the Xbox One launch right now - that was a poor MS console launch - should be a real cause for concern if you like console gaming. There is bascially zero recognition of this bombshell piece of data.

I want competition because I think it benefits me as a gamer but right now MS is not doing as well as they should and that spell potential trouble.

This is wrong at so many levels.

Spain is in Europe not Latin America....
Also, kids don't have full mustaches!
you dont know a lot about spain, dont you?
No nintendo.

WoW that's not even Spanish. And the stereotype is from Central America.

Que demonios tiene España que ver con esto?

The picture depicts a Portuguese family reunion around Porto, enjoying a Mexican themed party also known as Festa do "Viva as Piñatas".

The kid was confused, upon being questioned silly things. Yes, the mustaches are fake... duh!

PS5 is already about to pass Switch? And what's the straight green line at the very bottom of the chart?
Those are 2021 figures not lifetime.

Well , spain market is like the 3rd or 4th in Europe after Germany,UK and France...
4th biggest European market for Switch and PlayStation. 7th biggest European market for box (they do worse in Spain than other Europe countries for some reason.)

US seems like the best bet -- the market that the two consoles will likely be the closest in terms of units sold. UK would be the second biggest market for Xbox I reckon?

There is just no competition in other parts of the world.

Phil took the shipments from Spain and sent them to India, there are more than 1.3 billion there so if you capture even just 10% of the population (And why wouldn't you with how great GamePass+Series S is) then that's more than 100 million new users. Remember Microsoft target is the 2 billion players (or was it 4?) not the couple hundreds million Sony and Nintendo scraping for.

Phil playing chess while others playing checkers.
But what if it's the checkers' competition? 😂

PS consoles will soon follow if Jimbo and Hermen will keep putting playstation exclusives to PC.
Do we think porting PS exclusives to PC will really impact hardware sales all that much? The biggest games on PlayStation are already on PC anyway.
