I used to work in a small physics research group that worked with a Noble prize winner in Physics, and, during the same time period, I was across the hall from another Noble prize winner in Physics.

However, I wished I worked across the hall from a hot celebrity. :p

Alan Moore

Not really famous, but he is a well known comic writer/artist. He did V for Vendetta, Watchmen, League of Extraordinay Gentlemen, Swamp Thing and even Superman and Batman. He lives a couple of blocks away from my house in Northampton (UK). Surprisingly he lives in a standard terraced (I though he would be rich). Seen him in a local bar, looked really odd looking and scary. Never spoke to him, but I know a few people who have spoke to him on many occassions.

posted again, was on the end of the last page

While in Rome last summer I saw Ron Wood of the Rolling Stones. Made eye contact with him and he nodded his head at me. He also had his 18-year-old girlfriend in toe.

Met all seven members of Belle and Sebastian back when the Life Pursuit (terrible album btw) came out and they were doing a record signing at the Virgin Megastore in Union Square. Aside from the violinist Sarah Martin, the band wasn't very talkative and the whole thing was pretty awkward.

Met Dwight Howard at the Atlanta airport last year, he was in a bad mood but still agreed to take a photo with me. His biceps are ridiculously big in person.

I was in the US Capitol building when Newt Gingrich started walking through with his group. I saw him and said, "Hello, Mr. Gingrich!" He smiled and said, "Hi, how are you?" and kept going. Nice gesture to a kid at the time (whenever he was speaker of the house.)

I met Nina Gordon (formerly of the band Veruca Salt) at one of her solo performances in Cincinnati.

I met a lot of band guys a long time ago when I used to go to a bunch of concerts. No one memorable.

I also met a local morning newscaster at a pub in Indianapolis. He was drunk and funny as hell. I met him in the bathroom and he made a joke about me (I'm 6'7" and he's like 5'6" or something) then he came back to my table and made fun of all my friends.

I uh..."ran into" David Cassidy from The Partridge Family at a Milwaukee Brewers game about eight years ago. I was sitting next my dad and younger brother, and on the big screen they announced that David Cassidy was here, and proceeded to show him sitting in the seats with everyone else, not in some sort of VIP box (he was in town for a concert, apparently).

Anyway, when they showed upon the screen, the woman he was with started cheering like crazy, I could tell because, low and behold, I turned around and they were sitting four rows behind us. Later on my brother and I managed to have him sign our tickets (as did about every other person in a 15 foot radius of him).

He's really the only celebrity I've ever met. Although my sister's good friend ran into Patton Oswalt in a random diner in California last year, and I was oh-so-jealous :D

I said hi to Muhammad Yunus and he waved back, he won a Nobel Prize. Myself and some high school classmates were at a Microcredit Summit in Halifax, Nova Scotia so of course there were media taking pics and talking to him, they all turned to me. :D

Met Owen Nolan at an outdoors show. Got a pic and an autograph.

Thats about it.

I've met and interviewed Ben Mattes of Ubisoft Montreal. Also I have a bunch of friends there. Also I've exchanged emails with Jordan Mechner. He is a really a genuine and nice person. :)

Family:

My Aunt is a daughter of the owner of one of the largest newspapers in Pakistan.

My other Aunt is a daughter of some folks in the Pakistani military.

So I get most of the news concerning Pakistan from them... :) Trust me its nothing real special though. :)

We believe you.

I met Chuck Berry, the whole band of Status Quo(famous 80s rockers, had no idea who they were at the time), and many local celebs(im Swedish).
Worked at a hotel in the front office so thats why.

I've met about a billion zillion musicians by sheer virtue of being a concert nerd in LA. Most memorable were Exene Cervenka, who's my hero, and Merle Haggard/Buck Owens a ways back. Buck Owens was riding the cocaine train pretty hard at the time, which was hilarious because he was going on 70. Got away with it, too. The "heart attack" that killed him was vodka and Viagra and some sort of painkiller. Saw Shane MacGowan BARELY make it out of a taxi once, which was a bummer because I would've killed to meet him when he was lucid.

Got to hang out with Norm MacDonald after shows a couple times. That ruled. We bitched about the guy who fired him on SNL, who does some teaching at my school.

I've never met anyone famous enough to be douchey. Most of them don't have the money to get away with it. I saw Bob Dylan surrounded by roadies pretty much running to his bus after a show once, which struck me as pretty assholish. There were some people at that show who paid like $400 for tickets, least he could do is shake a couple hands (Johnny Depp seemed to want to see him, which Dylan wouldn't oblige) or even look his audience in the eye, talk between songs AT ALL, instead of sulking over his keyboard.

I love the guy and even his new albums, but he seems like he's become a dick in his unbelievably rich old age. Spend some time away from that Malibu mansion or luxury tour bus, and maybe people will take your white man blues more seriously.

Cool guy.

I've made a few drinks for LL Cool J, before. Also, I made myself look like a complete dick to Giovanni Ribisi when I tried to be funny.

I met andy dick. Kennedy airport. I was waiting for my bag, he had this huge bodyguard, and no one was talking to him. I was standing across from him so he finally talked to me. I was wearing an Avenged Sevenfold tshirt, and he said "is that a band?" i said "yeah" he said "is it YOUR band?" i said "no". That was it.

I actually sort of felt bad for him because no one was acknowledging him, even though he really wanted them to.

Given the opportunity, I'd have mentioned that Newsradio was far and away the funniest show of the '90s, while neglecting to mention it was also the last time the fellow was ever funny.

One of my friends on Xbox just got a call while we were playing WOW2. He was yelling in Spanish. Once he calmed down he explained what just happened.

His Grandmother in Spain was one of two people to win the lottery. 24 million divided 2 ways. He had to get offline to pack his bags. The whole family is flying back tonight... LOL

Happy for him... probably as close as I will ever get to money like that. :)

EDIT: Well other than my job that is. Surrounded by money all day, but that doesn't count.

Shaq shook hand when I was a little baby, according to my parents.

Besides that and Hakeem Olajuwon, I don't remember anymore.

Sent an Email to Yuji Naka of Prope a few years ago when I was looking for a job and got a response. Not a meeting but I thought it might be interesting to note.

My Mum has all the pictures, I was like 5 when it happened.

I've also met Alan Sugar and Keita Takahashi

I was also on CBBC (Dick and Dom in the Bungalow)

Guess I'll bite...

Went to high school with Jake Gyllenhaal, Jason/Jaron Collins (NBA players), Harry Morton (Morton's Steakhouse, Hard Rock Cafe, Pink Taco), Brandon Davis, and probably some more I can't remember.

Met Shaq a few times - he used to run on our track. Had dinner with Clinton once and met a bunch of Asians that nobody probably cares about.

Madonna used to be my neighbor and Diane Keaton/Brad Pitt lived somewhere down the street...

I met Allison Shaw of The Cranes at an outdoor concert.

I had the chance to sit down and talk to all the members of Type O Negative. This is before they became famous.

Louis Anderson was at my bank, and my branch is tiny. Turns out he banks there a lot.

Hung out with the members of the band Fuel at Flashdancers. My NYC buddy was kinda making fun of them at first, but we ended up talking about strip clubs they liked on the road.

Ran into a sullen Tom Green in the lobby of my corporate apartment - didn't really acknowledge him - didn't care to.

My NYC buddy has the best stories:

- saw Carson Daly and Jennifer Love Hewitt on the street, bought a disposable camera and asked Carson to take a picture of my buddy & her. I'll have to ask him if he still has it so I can post it.

- met Keith Richards at a bar while high on X.

- met Jimmy Fallon and hung out with him and other people at some club. Andy Dick was there and gave my buddy a titty twister (coke might have been involved). Anyway, he ended up taking a piss next to Fallon in the bathroom, who remarked to my buddy: "how is it like working like a cog for the man?" (we're business software developers.) My buddy remarked: "how is like being Lorne Michaels bitch?" Out of nowhere, got sucker punched by Fallon. Still hates him.

Andy Dick offered a BJ to a friend of mine, who is in turn a pseudo-famous game developer. And a pretty straight and straight-laced midwestern boy.

It was awesome.

"Hey, you want to come to my room and I'll blow you?"

Waved at Salma Hayek at a Lakers game and she smiled and waved back. LL Cool J was also there, and the guy next to me yelled "Hey! LL!", and LL turned around and did that kiss-kiss-peace-sign thing he does at him.

Saw Jack Black at the airport.

On the way to finals a few years ago, walked right past Barry Bonds on campus.

and Wesley Clark was a guest lecturer for my class once. Nice guy.

just remembered one thing that happend years ago... I've been told by my mum that i appeared as an extra in a TV programme called Reilly Ace of Spies where Sam Neill carried me. I was a baby at the time and have no memory of it though! :lol

Delivered groceries to Vinnie Jones in Venice, back when I was doing that. The guy was sort of an asshole, but in a cool way, if that makes sense. Tall, and skinnier than I'd imagined.

Stood behind Craig Robinson at like midnight at a West LA ATM. His name was coming up blank at the time, so I just said "Hey, I love your work, man. Keep it up." Better choice than just calling him Darryl. He was extremely cool.

Waited in line at Best Buy next to a very stoned Martin Starr. It was for the GTA4 midnight release. He got it for PS3.

The guy from "Rookie of the Year" and "American Pie" used to come to the bar where I worked. We'd sometimes have open mic nights, and he played guitar. He would always come alone and drink soda water. Pretty quiet guy. Florence Henderson and Ralph Macchio were frequent visitors.

When I waited tables at a Marie Callender's in Marina del Rey, Ed O'Neill was a regular. I never served him, unfortunately. One time, then-Laker Kwame Brown came in and ran up a huge bill (for Marie Callender's, at least - a couple hundred bucks). He didn't tip.

I've met Jordan Rudess, keyboardist for Dream Theater, a few times. I once randomly won this sweepstakes that got me a backstage pass, a concert ticket, and a private lesson with him before the show. That was an amazing and memorable experience. I got brought backstage, heard John Petrucci warming up behind one of the walls, saw John Myung on a couch going nuts on his bass. Ran into James Labrie (their Canadian singer) and he was like "who the fuck is this guy?", pointing at me, :lol. I was led into the keyboard warm up room where Rudess was. We first let our hands thaw out over a radiator while we shot the shit. We sat down at the keyboard and I played something for him, something I've been writing for a few years. He said he really liked it, had some suggestions, and without even really looking at what I was playing, he played it back to me perfectly by ear and basically made it sound so much better! James Labrie burst into the room, without knocking, and yelled at Rudess "WHERE ARE THE FUCKING BACKPLUGS???! HAVE YOU SEEN THE BACKPLUGGS??!" I think they were called backpluggs...but neither of us knew where they were. The lesson ended and I went on to experience a 3 hour show of just Dream Theater. It was intensely awesome, even exhausting, but in a good way.

It was quite the experience...something I'll probably tell my kids someday. I mean, the guy is a big part of why I've kept playing keyboards and piano....discovering his music sort of opened up a new world for me, and getting to meet him like this was just all sorts of fucking awesome.

Fucking awesome!

I've met a bunch of famous people through work. People who were more than a simple "hi" and a handshake...

I have a picture of Chris Jericho choking me.
I met Jim Carey in a strip club.
I made out with Jenny McCarthy in high school (she wasn't famous yet so I don't know if that counts).
Smoked up with Adam Sandler.
Keanu Reeves sat with me at lunch once (prior to the Matrix) and bummed a smoke off of me afterwards.
Waited on Jimmy Stewart (It's a Wonderful Life) when I was a teenager. He ws really awesome. I jokingly told him he did the best Jimmy Stewart I'd ever heard; then of couse he tells me that's because he is Jimmy Stewart.

As an Alba fan, I know that she shops at the Beverly Hills Whole Foods often because there are paparazzi photos up on the web from there almost every other week. When I was in California last year, I figured that I'd stop in just in case by chance she was shopping.

So I walked around the store several times, and then stopped when I saw someone.

Not Alba.

Sidney Poitier.
2ewlgz4.jpg

He looked really tired, and was shopping as quickly as possible with his hat on low so that he wouldn't be noticed. He'd look over at the bacon, kind of glance around really quickly, then grab like four packages in this rapid kind of action that I can only describe as tactical.

I didn't say anything and pretended to shop around a bit more. After a while I spotted him by the cereals, so I pretended to look at some of the oatmeal nearby, as if trying to make a decision. He did his rapid tactical action and grabbed a box of granola. I looked over and asked, "Hey, is that a good granola?". He looked up pretty quickly with a little bit of fear in his eyes, like, "Oh shit, it's another goddamned fan looking for an autograph", but then he realized that I was just asking for granola recommendations. He then did his wry Sideny Poitier smile, and said, "Yes. But...I like this one too. It has less...oats", and pointed to another brand on the shelf. I said, "Cool, I haven't tried that one! I'm always on the lookout for a new granola". He smiled and said, "There's actually a good one in produce!" I thanked him and walked away. Later on as I "shopped" I was walking through produce when he came and got me. He went, "Here's another granola I really like" and pointed out this stuff over by the berries. I went, "Hey, that's awesome, thanks!", and put one in my basket.

Nice guy! I was surprised at how nice he was after being asked a friendly question. Celebrities are just people living their lives. I always thought it'd be annoying to have people feel entitled to interrupt you to get an autograph or photo. But people always love talking about food!

Sam Neill has a house about 30 minutes drive from my town near the Vineyard he owns, our school somehow got him to come in, give a speech and hand out some prizes at our school's end of year prize giving. He handed out the academic excellence awards, which I was lucky enough to get one of. Afterwards a few of us got to stay behind and chat with him, I told him Merlin was one of my favourite movies, he said he thought I was the only person he had heard that from and that it was one of his as well.

I also once saw Che (of 1up and Forza fame) in a movie theater lobby about two months before Forza came out. I walked over near him with my friend and started talking really loudly about this "crappy game called Forza or something" and how "omg Gran Turismo was so much better". He started walking away to meet a friend so I finally cupped my hands to my mouth and shouted "FORZA! MICROSOFT GAME STUDIO!" and he kind of shockingly turned around and gave me this, "Oh hey dude. What's up!" kind of look.

I was playing L4D last year and he joined the GAF game I was in, so I mentioned it to him. He said that he thought it was pretty funny and that it was definitely an "internet" way of saying hello.

I carded Steven Stamkos (Tampa Bay Lightning/#1 overall draft pick) at the bar I work at in the Summer........checked the ID quickly at the door, gave it back and then did a double take when the name clicked

I've also met Jonny Bower (Maple Leafs legend), Bobby Baun (Maple Leafs legend), and Jean Beliveau (Canadiens legend) at work

And I actually had to act as security for former UFC fighter Roger Huerta one night.......that was pretty funny since hes a UFC fighter and all

Ok I see politicians were posted in this thread........I met a whole bunch of cabinet ministers including Ken Dryden (Canadiens legend) and the Prime Minister back in 2004 :p

Stood behind Liam Gallagher in the Burger King in Waterloo station.

Met Timmy Mallett when I was a small child and got lost in a shopping centre where he was doing a meet and greet.
