Yeah, I just gave Falling Apart a play, and it does do a good job of keeping things interesting. As you go, the song itself, the beatmap, and the visuals increase in intensity, keeping the player engaged. Mirai didn't pull it off nearly as well.

IA/VT is great, but some songs are way too long. And I think it would really benefit with an extra difficulty level.

More variety would be good too, there were about 10 JIN songs if I remember correctly.

Audio source links?
I just got the game from my gf recently, so I only downloaded one of those fan made songs. Seemed to be missing something.

The edit charts don't come with the actual music, presumably to avoid copyright issues. You have to acquire the actual mp3's from elsewhere. And, if you don't get the exact same copy of the song that the chart maker used, the notes will be somewhat out of sync.

However, uploaded charts have a field a field for "Audio Source". Annoyingly, however, this sometimes consists of something like "use Youtube2mp3", which is, well, imprecise. Other times I'll end up with a broken link.

In addition to being very, VERY good, all of MilesEdgeworth's charts have working URL's (or they did as of a couple weeks ago at least), in the "audio source data" field, so his account is a good way to get some extra songs quickly without spending hours sorting through charts and finding the right copies of songs. IIRC there's around ten.

I am not exaggerating when I say that IA/VT is the only rhythm game I have ever played where I started falling asleep during songs. And I'm not talking about just the 7-minute-long song.

The song list was ok! There were some good ones though. Falling Apart, Drive, New Tsubaya days, Party, Summe songsr, Inner Arts, Children Record, Re;BIRTH.

However the 3DPV's left a lot to be desired. They were even worse than Project Diva (1st PSP game)

I've definitely fallen asleep playing IA/VT. That happens to me when I play easy songs in rhythm games and IA/VT on the hardest difficulty is still very easy compared to a Hatsune Miku game.

I always mess up the arrow and face buttons. Especially on the circle part of the songs. Otherwise the charts are fairly easy.

IA/VT is ruined for me by the timing being slightly off, others have mentioned the game was due to be 3D before going with the mainly 2D PVS, so that could explain it.

A shame really, I enjoyed pretty much all the songs I did play (first 20 or so), but when things start to get busy on screen, you have to factor in the the input delay which means you're not playing along to the beat of the song anymore.

My PDX isn't arriving until Wednesday, sorely tempted to buy digital what with having the next few days off work.

I'm still bummed See The Lights got axed from IA/VT.

That was the sole reason I got interested in IA as well as the game. I am working on an edit for it though in PDF 2nd English.

Which brings another question. Have any of you released any Edits. I have a few in working but they are being worked on at a snails pace.

I have Luka's Mircale is Dead, 1,000,000 years of sentence (Almost finished with this), Luvoratory and See the lights.

I've been working on a lot of edits, but I never finish any of them. I've made some decent progress with Threadnation and One More Time One More Time, so look out for those coming to F 2nd in 2046.

I did pretty well on 脳内革命ガール Extreme, but I keep barely missing the first technical zone thanks to the two large groups of notes in the middle and at the end of it, and I keep getting a 94.8% on it ugh.

I've thought of making some charts in the past, but then I realized I'd probably be disappointed in how little attention they'd get and I dropped the thought out of lack of motivation haha... Kind of a pathetic view on content creation, I know. I just don't think I'd want to play my own stuff after working and tweaking it for so long, so it feels like you'd HAVE to have some people play it to make it feel worthwhile.

FWIW, there's a very real lack of good (emphasis on "good") North American edit charts. I have no idea why Sega decided to region lock edit charts, but it's really limited the amount of stuff you can get without a JP copy of the game. From what I can tell, it seems that the most of the people invested enough in the Project Diva series to create quality edits are all using JP copies of the game (even among English speakers). I have found maybe 60 edits for my english copy of F2nd that I consider to be high quality.

What I'm saying is, if you can make some good charts that work with the North American game, and you take the time to tell people about it, you have a decent chance of getting noticed.

****

On another note, if enough people are actually interested in edit charts, I've been thinking: From what I can tell, there's nothing stopping you transferring edit chart save data directly (using Sony's standard save data transfer tools) as opposed to using PSN. It might be nice to put together some kind of community package, just because even assuming you can find a good edit chart, the in-game method for downloading them one-by-one is both tedious and time consuming.

I'd be happy to put together such a package myself, except that I have the PS3 version of game, and the vast majority of players here seem to use the Vita version. I'm assuming the PS3 and Vita games don't use the exact same save format.

This has already done by Hisokee for PDf Vita. But sadly that tool does not work for PDF 2nd. Does it? Due to changed savegame format between (US & JP) versions of game cause of english lyrics.

Edit Sorry Misread what you said! That will only work out for PS3 as the Vita saves are encrypted and cannot be copied separately from the game.

It wouldn't have been so bad if completing all songs on Normal wouldn't be a requirement to unlock Hard. I enjoyed the game on Hard (even though it was still too easy overall), but the first songs on Normal were really boring.

That Miku controller looks ace. If it worked on PS3, PS4 and I could get it for a semi reasonable price in the UK, I'd go for it. I'm not optimistic about that though!

More important is how is the reception? Were people happy with fewer songs and simple PV's?

I really hope there is a future for a portable diva game w/ physical buttons, hopefully something similar lands on NX.

I can enjoy the home versions for what they are but don't enjoy them like I do the PSP/Vita ones.

Only for the US though. Really hate SEGA Europe nowadays.

That's stupid. Silver lining, I guess, is that at least you can import it in a language you can understand, though the exchange rate is probably worse. Have they said they aren't bringing it over physical, or have they just not said anything yet?

I really love the days of rhythmn games not dominated by Guitar Hero and Rock Band. I'm so excited for PDX! Miku games became an instant yearly buy for me like sports games.

Probably not something to get used to, since the series historically gets a new iteration roughly every two years. The release schedule stateside seemed accelerated only because the releases lagged behind the Japanese, but they have now caught up.

Import it in Japanese for the true DLC price experience!

The core game is still great, but everything around it is... questionable. The new gameplay mode is just endless grinding for unlocks, most of which are completely random, while edit mode and the diva room lost basically all of their functionality. If you're not in any hurry to get your grind on, you might as well wait for the English version.

Kind of annoying - even Miracle Girls Festival, grindfest as it was, was objective-based and not RNG for song unlocks. (There weren't any costume unlocks; just had to have the currency to buy the one alternate costume almost each character had.)

The core game is still there and is still fun, but you have to jump through a bunch of RNG hoops to get there...while you can separate yourself at any point from that and just do freeplay if you wish, if you want the new modules at a minimum a significant amount of time needs to be spent doing other less fun things.

God damnit, how did they make it more annoying?
Gift and event items can only be obtained randomly in Live Quest. Yes, you need to rely on RNG to just get those items now.

Honestly I haven't bothered with Live Quest after getting all the songs and a few modules I wanted.

Anyone feel there's more button spamming in Diva X extreme mode? Dual wielding is a must...which I suck at. :(

When you say spamming do you mean overlapping notes? Or just long strings?

I'd say it feels like there's loss overlapping as a whole, but when songs use them they really use them. The charts for the Rin song I don't know the name of and Sea Lily come to mind.

Yeah, overlapping notes. Songs like this one I can't get a passing grade. https://youtu.be/5Z13FqucZIo
I quite enjoy long strings however.

I don't think there's much of a difference compared to F2nd. There we had Two Sided Lovers, Envy Cat Walk, Paradichloblabla and Knife for example which all had a similar amount of overlapping strings (not even to speak of the two 10 star songs).
Especially Two Sided Lovers is very similar to Holy Lance Explosion Boy (and was imo more difficult due to its higher bpm).

I can't imagine playing almost any song on extreme without dual wielding, once you get pretty good at it it makes the game much less frantic.

There was a item you could use in 2nd I believe that made the notes smaller. In long strings of overlapping consecutive notes this made them much easier to read. Haven't gone looking for it in X though.
