Hayden Christensen returning as Darth Vader in Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney Plus Series

20 years of exacting acting experience surely makes an actor!

Wait a second...

EDIT: For the record, I have no chips in this game, if he miraculously does a good job (maybe James Earl Jones can voice him?) I'll be really happy for him.

He was a good actor when he was young and his physical acting was a big part of that so this could work.

Problem is he only started working more regularly recently so there might still be some ring rust to work off. He wasnt bad in the last couple things I saw him in but he was obviously not in rhythm either.

Hayden's Anakin is my favorite SW character and I'm a huge fan of his so this is probably the only thing that might get me to watch something SW related from Disney at this point.

Just jam that nostalgia button.

Glad that these actors will have a chance to work together again though!

Maybe this can begin to make things right. I do think Vader’s shocking absence from TROS was one of the biggest disappointments of the sequel trilogy.

All is forgiven. I love Disney again. Don’t care if it goes against what I assumed during time period. Its Vader during the in between. that’s all that matters

Now everyone is gonna act like they loved him lol.
I love how this works. Bring back jar jar and everyone will be like “we never hated him!”

There are times when I think I was the only one who was unbothered by him back when TPM opened in '99. It wouldn't be until seeing discussions on the internet that I found out he was hated.

I must be immune to this shit. I also never thought twice about Navi in Ocarina of Time.

I've always felt he absolutely nailed a proud, fragile young man destroyed by his fear of loss, and his confused association between having power over others, and loving others. I want this energy in Star Wars again. I feel like they could shift away from the space western vibes of The Mandalorian towards something more introspective, contemplative.

I'm thinking that they'll do a combination of de-aged flashbacks (those would be expensive, though), Vader alone with his helmet off, thinking about the past, and maybe some hallucinations where the troubled Obi-Wan grapples with the guilt he feels over failing Anakin, and whether leaving him to his fate was the right thing to do. Every person Vader kills is able to do that because Obi-Wan couldn't bring himself to land that killing blow. Was it mercy? Was it bitter anger. Death was too good for him? There's huge room for Ewan to really explore that side of Obi-Wan, and I am going to overjoyed if they have the two onscreen together again.

I'd love to see Jar Jar again. Never had a problem with him. I always felt a lot of the Jar Jar hate stemmed from adult OT Star Wars fans hating being reminded that Lucas viewed SW as primarily about teaching lessons to children. He's a goofy alien that repeats plot points in a funny voice and accidentally destroys the Republic. He was a good vehicle to introduce children to Star Wars in 1999, a property they had no understanding of.

I would love for the Obi-Wan show to show Jar Jar ten years later, an outcast blamed for Palpatine's rise despite being completely innocent of malice, and the victim of manipulation. Jar Jar always tried to do the right thing, was promoted beyond his capabilities because he got lucky in a war, and his naivety and trust in the goodness of his fellow senators destroyed the Republic.

I wonder if this'll lead to a resurgence in his career. I thought he did a fine job, especially in the final moments of the final fight.

He just had some immensely shitty lines to deliver and he couldn't quite pull them off.

I used to sell weed to Hayden. Glad he has a chance at redemption

Lol, are you for real?

It’s true but I don’t expect anyone to believe me. Met up with him about 4 or 5 times. My buddy was friends with him. Didn’t socialize with him besides nods and “ what’s ups”. This was about 8-9 years ago? When he wasn’t doing anything. It’s funny because Vader is my favourite character of all time.

You never talked to him about Star Wars or his career?

Nah. Didn’t hang out just met up. I wanted too but it would’ve been awkward. I also used to chop weed to the shermanator from American pie. lol. I know his wife. He hated every damn person calling him that though. Those were my younger days. Don’t deal with anything like that anymore.

George Lucas can't direct for shit so Hayden should come across as a better actor here.
George Lucas is an immensely capable director. He changed cinema forever, and did it multiple times. All those superhero movies you watch today are built on the blood, sweat, and tears that went into making the PT, reinventing moviemaking as an art form. And before he made Star Wars (reinventing cinema in the late 70s), he was an acclaimed director with multiple feature films under his belt that hold up beautifully today.

Hayden gave the performance Lucas wanted him to give. In Attack of the Clones, he didn't want Hayden method acting. He didn't want any of the actors method acting. Was very clear about it. Wanted it melodramatic, very old school. Whether Lucas nailed the style or not, which is a fair debate there are undeniable parallels to melodramatic 30s silent cinema. They don't make films in that style anymore, and some might argue there's a reason for that.

Revenge of the SIth is stylistically different, and Hayden's acting in that film is superb.

He is a good director in terms of camera placement, movement and implementing technologies. But IMO he is poor at directing actors. There is no nuance with his actors, it's either completely restrained acting or all in over the top acting.

Well, I was hoping Kenobi TV series would be a smaller, self-contained and more Logan-like type of story set on the deserts of Tatooine similarly to Kenobi's novel from Legends. It seems they're going in a completely different direction. That said, it's really exciting to see Hayden back. Hope they will give him opportunity to play both Vader and Anakin from Clone Wars flashbacks.

I will use deepfake to put Mr Bean's face over Hayden's. It would be a more believable performance.

I saw a really bad movie with Hayden in it once. It was basically soft porn with how many naked girls were in it.

I might be exaggerating a bit, but that's really all I remember. Hayden's bad acting and titties.

I hope Vader and Kenobi don't meet during that show... it would remove the weight of their last encounter in Ep IV.
